War Film Poll!

Help pick the War movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

*NOTE: Sam has seen The Pianist, so this would only be my first time reaction.

We received a ton suggestions on the last polls, but we are trying to keep the poll sizes more reasonable. We have noted all suggestions for future polls!

Sigh. Older movies tend to get fewer votes on this site, as on most of the sites. Just like "Greatest Hits", or "Greatest Players" lists. I chuckle to myself where the comments about an old movie or song are, "that sounds a lot like [Enter newer movie or song here] when in fact it's the newer movie that's the copy. And the older movie likely took its cues from an even older movie. I always like to see the older movie as a companion to the remake. Sometimes the newer movie IS significantly better, but usually not. Old B&W movies get the least respect.

David Martin

It hasn't been reacted to and unfortunately hasn't been on a poll in a while. Was hoping they would watch it soon after they did Lawrence.

Birdie Num Num

Was just watching your Deer Hunter reaction from 2 years ago. It won a poll beating out Fury, Hacksaw Ridge, Thin Red Line, We Were Soldiers and Come and See. Every film on that poll except Come and See has been reacted to since then. I know it doesn't do well in polls, but maybe you can give it a shot just cause it's been on polls for so long without winning? I guess it has staying power since it always makes the polls.

Hey, an excuse to finally watch Patton. I was worried Paths of Glory would never have a shot but it put up a better showing than I had expected. Great movie.

Tyler Foster

Please consider M*A*S*H next time since you have no Korean War films in the poll.

Birdie Num Num

Anyone who doesn't vote for Enemy at the Gates is a sick and damaged individual.

I have four suggestions, all related to World War II in the Pacific: Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970) A great portrayal of the attack on Pearl Harbor: there were two film crews, one Japanese and one American, each telling the story of the battle from the point of view of their country and navy. Letters From Iwo Jima and Flags of Our Fathers, (2006), both directed by Clint Eastwood, and, again, telling the story of that battle from both sides, each presented in its own film; and Midway (2019), which has a few minor historical details wrong, but does a great job of telling the story of the battle that changed the whole course of that war in ten utterly heart-stopping minutes - I mean that's how long it took in real life, not just the film. As a bonus, all the major characters are well-done portrayals of real people, from Admiral Chester Nimitz to junior enlisted sailors, by a great cast starting with Woody Harrelson as Nimitz and including great performances by Dennis Quaid, Ed Skrein, Luke Kleintank, and several others. I have to admit to being partial to anything about that war - I'm a retired Marine, my stepfather served in the Navy in the Pacific in that war, and I've been studying it for fifty years now.

Enemy at the gates is great, i dont think anyone has reacted to it

Deano

Casualties of War and Paths of Glory are devastating films. Both should be seen whether they win the poll or not. They are brilliant.

Robert Boyd

I didn’t mean they couldn’t handle it, they just meant it could be awkward to get past YouTube approval. It’s my understanding that they aren’t allowed to even SAY certain words or get demonetized.

Charles Gaba

Mike, Agreed 👍

Jonathan Patrick

The Pianist!!!

James

My most common rewatch on this list is Kelly's Heroes! Such a star-studded cast and a great blend of action, drama, and humor. But, so many good ones on the list. Will be more than happy with Patton.

Eric

I don't see why all the gatekeeping for Casualties of War. Daniel and Sam can handle adult themes. I was on another Patreon and they got the film practically banned there because of the gatekeeping. It is a very good film with some fine performances.

Mike LL

13 Hours is excellent, true, and only happened a few years ago.

Nick Thousan

Some good ones there, enemy at the gates for me

ElmSt Reactions

I wouldn't really call it a War movie, but Barry Lyndon is Kubrick's masterpiece, so voted for that.

bosho11

Barry Lyndon is far from a typical war movie, but it is superb. Kubrick used all natural light, and at least one of the camera lenses used was also used by NASA. Every frame of that film looks like a classic painting.

Michael Buhl

Suggesting "The Alamo" from (2004) for a future war poll, it's regarding the Texas independence from Mexico back in the 1830s, very accurate depiction according to Historians 😁

dieselbeast

Patton Won the Academy Award for best actor.

Athos Count de la Fère

Next time for a war movie, A Soldiers Story is a great movie with a powerful subject matter, starring a very young Denzel Washington.

Sylvan Green

"Patton" and "Dirty Dozen" are my favorites here

Florian Meier

Dirty Doooooozen!!!

Steven Montano

Love Barry Lyndon. Probably my favorite Kubrick film.

Will Zamora

Well for some reason and I don't know why I am unable to select anything from the list , so i cast my vote for The Lost Battalion one of the best films about WW1 ever made based on a true story

Wyatt Nuxoll

Casualties of War 👍, I'll be hoping for and voting for as long as I'm able to. I feel a very important film.

Jonathan Patrick

My top pick is definitely 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi! One of the best and most powerful movies I have ever seen. I read the book it's based upon when the movie came out, and I can tell you it's an accurate and faithful retelling of the events that took place on September 11, 2012 in Beghazi by the brave Americans that were there on the ground and put their lives on the line.

David Crabtree

Born On The Fourth Of July would be a good addition to the next War Movie Poll

Garry L

Barry Lyndon doing well!

iliketostayhome

The Pianist is good and worth seeing, but let's be honest y'all my main motivation for voting for it here is that, as has become custom, Sam does the intro when she's seen the film and Daniel hasn't.

Paul Cox

Barely anyone has done enemy at gates, very under rated

Deano

Casualties of War is an important film, but the subject matter is extremely ugly & could be problematic to react to. 13 Hours is problematic for a different reason. I know you don't want your supporters to get into political sniping, so all I'll say is I'd strongly recommend reading a few pieces on its historical accuracy before posting your reaction. Would love to see you react to Bridge Over the River Kwai if you haven't already.

Charles Gaba

I'll try on another device see what happens

Wyatt Nuxoll

That seems to be a recurring problem with the Android app. I switched to my pc and everything's working as it should.

Paul Cox

I'm trying to vote and it selects it then it goes blank again

Wyatt Nuxoll

Here’s hoping for 13 Hours, it’s one of my favorite movies and it’s an important story to be seen in honor of those who lost their lives in the incident.

Gilbert Gonzalez

I swear I never even heard of Come and See until this year, and all of a sudden I start noticing it on all-time-best lists from a bunch of different sources. Planning to watch it myself soon, but I went ahead and voted for it here just based on reputation alone.

Paul Cox

The last 30 - 40 minutes are some of the most harrowing moments in any movie

Smooticus

Once again, a great list and some great choices. I again had to vote for more than one

Smooticus

Still no "Bridge on the River Kwai". Has that already be seen?

David Martin

*We just recorded the drawing, so if you're seeing your selection on the poll, it didn't win this month*

TBR Schmitt

i've a couple of favorites, but all will make a good watch.

YoureMrLebowski

come and see is one of the most upsetting films i’ve seen. hope you guys react to it lol

Felix

Wow, I'm just jazzed that "Kelly's Heroes" made the list.
