Batman Returns (1992) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Fun fact: the poodle is the same one from The Silence Of The Lambs! ❤️

I love this movie, I have no idea what I'd think of it if I saw it for the first time as an adult though. So bizarre. I'm glad you guys liked my favourite joke, where Batman goes into his custom Iron Maiden slide to the Batcave and Alfred just rocks up behind him like three seconds later after taking the stairs. Michael Keaton Batman is just a big kid at heart.

Tostito Buddy

Daniel: “I thought something was wrong with the mistletoe.” Me: “Daniel, you are NOT the world’s greatest detective!” 🤦🏽‍♂️🤣🤣 j/p

Tristan Durant

Selena Kyle: “It’s the so called “normal guys” that always lets you down.” “Sickos never scare me.” “At least they’re committed.” So many lines went over my head as a kid, but when I got older this line was funny as hell to me. 🤣

Tristan Durant

Fun facts: Probably obvious to most however Devito actually did eat that raw fish and Pfeiffer really put a live bird in her mouth. When one of the image consultants put that “pencil thin cigar” in The Penguin’s mouth it was a call back to Burgess Meredith’s Penguin who often smoked them in the 60’s Batman tv show. Pfeiffer actually did that stunt with the whip and I believe on the first take. In a different script Marlon Wayans was originally cast as Robin for Returns. He had an actual action figure in the 90s from the film and still got paid even though WB didn’t use him for the role.

Great reaction. Definitely check out Batman Forever(Val Kilmer). It's campy but still fun.

Jon

Batman Forever was my childhood batman film and i love it. Its a super fun and exciting film and still fairly decent all together. I thought it was well made. I highly recommend watching!

Braden Derksen

Great reaction, and I’m glad you got to this one quickly. And I hope you feature more Tim Burton movies in the future. Very few directors succeed on his level when it comes to creating a fantastical world, nearly an alternate universe. But…one of his very best is actually shot in B&W and portrays a “regular” time and place, and that one is ‘Ed Wood’ (1994).

David Wilkins

As the only auteured Batman film, BATMAN RETURNS is also the best live-action Batman movie so far. The degree of Tim Burton’s commitment to his expressionist horror vision is admirable and amazing to watch. As for the latter two in to the series, BATMAN FOREVER is the weakest of the bunch, but still fun to watch at least once. The criminally misunderstood BATMAN & ROBIN is essentially a feature-length episode of the ‘66 Batman TV show writ Schumacher. Arnold Schwarzenegger knows exactly what he’s doing in the movie, as does Uma Thurman. Both are excellent. Speaking of the ‘66 TV show, the movie version of that, also made in ‘66, is well worth watching. It’s amazing how knowing and comedically sly that show was….and how that’s been wrongly labeled “camp” for the last 45 years or so. Once you guys are done with all of those, heh, you can sit down and watch, without doubt, the best Batman movie ever made, 1993’s Mask of the Phantasm, a feature extension of the 1992 animated series, which is the best take on the Batman characters of all-time, including the comics.

Yes ;) Momma is right

I’m here for a Batman forever reaction

This movie manages to blend a lot of dumb things with dark subject matter and I think it works really well, although I still think Batman '89 is the better film. There's a lot of sexual humour that might easily fly over a kid's head but the line "Just the pussy I'm looking for" did NOT go over my head when I was 8 years old. Kids know what that word can mean, even at that young age.😂 Does anyone else remember the coke commercial associated with the final shot of the movie? I remember the commercial being exactly the same, except Catwoman takes a long sip from a bright red Coke can after standing up. I'm pretty sure I saw it before seeing the actual movie when I was a kid. There's a bunch of related commercials on youtube, but I've never found the one I'm thinking of. This is my first time watching this movie where I didn't take Catwoman's nine lives as being literal - I think she's just incredibly lucky at surviving danger, which is of course where the cats having nine lives myth came from. When Max pushes her out the window, the fall would have killed her but she falls through several canopies which slow down the speed of her fall just enough to survive. Batman knocks her off a rooftop, but she lands in a truck filled with kitty litter and that fall didn't seem nearly as high. When she falls off of Penguin's helicopter thing, she falls only a short distance through that glass ceiling and was lucky enough not to be stabbed by long pieces of sharp glass. All three falls, she lands flat on her back and not in some bad way where her limbs could get twisted and mangled or her neck would break. As for Max shooting her at the end... that dude's just a sloppy shot. He doesn't bother to aim any of his shots and totally misses her head, heart or vital organs. Lastly, she wasn't really locking lips with Max as she zapped him to death and managed to escape before any of the rubble could crush her.

I've never tried to compare the first two movies but if I had to chose I think I might go with Returns. Tough to beat Nicholson as the Joker so they went with three great actors for this one to compensate haha, but they were all so perfect (I resisted the pun), I honestly think Michelle Pfeiffer has never been hotter, and I don't mean when she's in the Catwoman suit but as confident Selina Kyle. Also, yeah The Flash was actually pretty good, I liked it, and you already know Michael Keaton reprises his Batman and I do recommend the movie, but I recommend Blue Beetle even more honestly, that movie was really fun, the humor is awesome, and the action is great, the characters were really lovable, maybe because they remind me of my family lol

You are one of the lucky ones to have internet back in 92. I think it was 94 for me

Yann Laliberté

Great reaction guys. I haven't watched this one in years it's a great re-watch. I love this one but Batman 1989 will always be my favorite. Despite how some I actually love the other 2 as well I grew up watching these in the theaters so for me these are my forever Batman movies lol. You guys might as well watch the others 2 lol. Merry Christmas

Mike Bridges

Burgess Meredith is still the only Penguin in my book. Plus it's a Batarang not a boomerang... lol

Moe howard

Normally I'd question Bruce for falling so hard for Selina, but come on, this is Michelle Pfeiffer we're talking about. Absolutely stunning.

Kyle

According to Tim Burton, the Penguin was kinda forced on him by WB. Compared to the psychotic Joker, the Penguin was really just a short businessman, and Tim really just wanted Catwoman, and the Max Shrek character would have been the true villain in the background whilst Batman struggled against liking (but feeling like he should stop) a vigilante who was just a little darker than himself. But, the studio thought Penguin should be in it, and Tim took a shot. Don’t get me wrong, DeVito swung for the fences with the role…but rocket launcher penguins…I was embarrassed sitting in the theater in 1992. 😁

Warren H

Michelle Pfeiffer was overshadowed by Cindy Crawford by the time this came out. We were all downloading Crawford pictures off BBS's at 1 image every 30 minutes in '92. But Michelle was our first crush from LadyHawke.

Brian's Dog

*Momma Good movie

Mr. Chumpus

I just realized that Christopher Walken is the perfect person to play Elon Musk in a movie about his life.

Alex

Just watched the end discussion. Batman Forever is 50% zany, silly fun in Jim Carrey/Tommy Lee Jones and 50% earnest due to Val Kilmer/Chris O'Donnell. Batman & Robin is 100% toy commercial and Arnold ice puns... Did I pique your interest there with that line about Arnold? 😌

Look out, Arbogast!

Please continue with Batman Forever! Great reaction!

Philip Alan

I'm sure you'll get some comments, but long story short, Batman Returns didn't make as much money as Batman 89 and this film was twice as darker and violent as the first and WB wanted more kid friendly movies and that's what Schumacher was ordered to do. At the time, Batman Forever was a huge hit, and then Batman & Robin derailed the franchise by doubling down on the silliness just as Burton doubled down on the darkness with this film. But in retrospect, and nostalgically, Batman Forever and Batman & Robin are worth the watch because ultimately that's what led to Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy happening.

Really Like this Sequel, i Prefer the First One because I'm a Big Nicholson Fan, but i love Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny deVito in this !!! You Must watch "Throw Mommy from The Train" from 1987 with Danny deVito and Billy Crystal !!! Classic Comedy

Florian Meier

Possibly the oddest and definitely the horniest superhero movie ever made... but I LOVE it. This is pretty much Tim Burton/Danny Elfman on steroids. Amazing~~

Look out, Arbogast!

Gonna make some burgers right quick, and I'm ready! lol Can't wait to see this!

EdmanXERO

Catwoman is the absolute STAR of this show!!!!!

Chris Bruneau

Please continue the series!

Odd Thomas

Better than the original, in my opinion. Nicholson's Joker was great but DeVito's Penguin combined with Pfeiffer's Catwoman got my vote.

Mr. Writhms

This just goes to show why we mustn’t be shy about asking if such and such movie is Eligible for the channel! I would never have guessed that at least one of the Hosts never saw this one before!!
