F/VoH Ch 82: Ordering Food at the Inn

Rosseline, who initially just wanted to make a sarcastic remark, fell silent for a moment. Rosseline's expression changed slightly, and her eyes showed a flash of surprise. She did not expect Ryan to have such a sharp understanding of his surroundings.

All this time, Rosseline thought Ryan was just a noble child living sheltered behind the castle walls, unaware of the outside world. However, Ryan's recent words made Rosseline see him in a different light.

“Hmm... so you know about things like that too, huh?” Rosseline murmured, her eyes narrowing as she looked at Ryan with newfound curiosity. “I thought you only knew about protocols and noble etiquette.”

Ryan smiled faintly but did not offer any further comments. He shifted his gaze around, momentarily enjoying the view of the bustling morning activities.

“Hello, is there anything you would like to order now?” A soft voice from a woman broke the conversation at the table. The woman had brown hair braided into one and tucked behind a cream-colored headscarf. She wore simple clothing: a long-sleeved dark blue blouse and a long brown skirt that touched the floor. Her appearance was modest, yet her gaze was calm and professional, fitting for her role as an inn waitress.

Ryan turned to her, his eyes looking at the woman for a moment before asking, “What are the food options here?”

The woman smiled faintly, then in a friendly yet practiced voice, she listed, “We have sour vegetable stir-fry, fish soup, and fried rice with scrambled eggs.”

Ryan pondered for a moment, then quickly made a decision. “I’ll have the fried rice with scrambled eggs.”

Charlotte, sitting next to Ryan, smiled brightly, looking at the waitress with enthusiasm. “I’ll have the fish soup, please?” Charlotte's words were accompanied by such a sweet smile, warming the atmosphere at the table.

Ellina, who was sitting quietly beside them, glanced at Ryan for a moment before deciding. “I’ll have the fried rice with scrambled eggs too, just like Young Master Ryan.”

The waitress quickly wrote down the orders, but before she could turn away, Rosseline spoke up. “I’d like the fish soup as well. By the way,” Rosseline added, narrowing her eyes with curiosity, “what kind of fish will be used?”

The waitress paused for a moment, nodded, then proudly replied, “Oh, we use Rhains Fish. This fish usually appears after heavy rain. Many people in this country consider it a local delicacy because of its tender texture and fresh taste. They call it ‘a gift from the rain.”

Rosseline seemed impressed by the answer, a faint smile appearing on her lips. “Interesting. In that case, I’ll try the fish soup.”

The waitress nodded, a polite smile still adorning her face. “Alright, your orders will be prepared shortly.” She then turned and walked away calmly, leaving the table in a momentary silence.

Charlotte leaned back in her chair, her eyes sparkling as she awaited the food to be served. “Rhains Fish, huh? I’m curious about what it tastes like.”

Ryan glanced out of the inn for a moment, the morning sunlight shining on their table. “We’ll find out soon,” Ryan replied briefly, but with a calm tone, reflecting his confidence that today, like any other day, would go according to plan.

Not long after the waitress left, she returned with a large tray containing their food orders. Each step she took sounded soft on the slightly creaky wooden floor of the inn. She deftly placed four plates on the table, and the aroma of the food began to fill the air.

“Would you like to order any drinks? We only have mineral water, hot tea, and hot coffee,” the waitress asked with a polite smile, waiting for them to make their choice.
