2023-12-09 11:42:40 +0000 UTCImpossible choice.

2023-12-09 11:41:02 +0000 UTCDefinitely watch some of the noirs, and then watch Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid as a great dessert.
Neal Romanek
2023-12-09 11:40:44 +0000 UTCHoly crap, there are some great movies on this list!! Going with Double Indemnity cuz that's a great starting place (and you need to start getting more Billy Wilder under your belt), but you can't go wrong with any of them!
Neal Romanek
2023-12-09 11:39:51 +0000 UTC"Angel Face" and "Out of the Past" (both with Robert Mitchum) are also great film noirs. "Witness for the Prosecution" (1957) would make a fine entry for your next courtroom thriller poll.
Tennessee
2023-11-30 18:23:10 +0000 UTCYou should keep the original "Suspiria" on your radar. It's one of the best visually striking horror movies ever made and has a great soundtrack.
Tennessee
2023-11-30 18:19:48 +0000 UTCA Giallo poll (stylish Italian thrillers and horror movies) would be nice. Suggestions: Blood and Black Lace (1964), The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970), The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh (1971), Deep Red (1975), The Bloodstained Shadow (1978), Tenebrae (1982). Most of them are also fun whodunits.

2023-11-27 07:03:00 +0000 UTCHow about 'Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid' ?
Paul Kay
2023-11-25 04:29:29 +0000 UTCI love this Noir train you're doing. I haven't seen any of these movies and I like how your pateron fans are picking good films for me to check out before coming and watching them along with ye. Great channel!
PIG
2023-11-24 08:03:47 +0000 UTCFor me, it was a toss-up between Sunset Blvd. and The Third Man.
Michael Buhl
2023-11-24 05:19:25 +0000 UTCFor #2, do you mean Double Indemnity? Have you been brutally betrayed, noir style, by that treacherous Autocorrect? It was remade in 1981 with the title "Body Heat," starring Kathleen Turner and William Hurt. That's an excellent version too.
Jim Finley
2023-11-24 02:59:24 +0000 UTCThis may be the most stacked poll ever done for the channel. Not a mediocre film in sight lol. Rooting for every single one!
Look out, Arbogast!
2023-11-24 02:07:41 +0000 UTCI didn't see it the first time, but the second time I read the list

2023-11-23 22:59:29 +0000 UTCI was just thinking the same thing.

2023-11-23 22:57:17 +0000 UTCThe Killing is an excellent Kubrick film that almost certainly inspired Quentin Tarantino. It's going to lose, but definitely a forgotten Kubrick gem.
iliketostayhome
2023-11-23 20:48:09 +0000 UTCLaura was the first one I ever watched too and I’ve been in love with the genre ever since.

2023-11-23 19:30:42 +0000 UTCIf I'd known Odd Man Out would be *this low* in the vote totals (4 out of 359 at present count), I'd never have suggested it. That of course doesn't mean it isn't brilliant, but I guess it's way more obscure than I'd imagined. Not sure why; Carol Reed is a beloved director, James Mason is a beloved star, Criterion gave it a beautiful release. Maybe it being a British film set in Northern Ireland doesn't spark people's interest. sigh
Paul Cox
2023-11-23 19:01:21 +0000 UTCIt’s not Double Identity, autocorrect error?
Will Zamora
2023-11-23 16:31:15 +0000 UTCThe Killing by Stanley Kubrick is great, but so is Double Indemnity
Will Zamora
2023-11-23 16:28:09 +0000 UTCA recommendation for a future noir poll is Detour (1945). It’s only 69 minutes long and it was a huge influence on Quentin Tarantino.
Tim Raths
2023-11-23 15:43:33 +0000 UTCOh geez, such a great list. I’ve seen most of these movies and you can’t go wrong with any of them. Strangers on a Train is of course Hitchcock. His daughter, Patricia, has a role in the film. Also, the novel was written by Patricia Highsmith who wrote The Talented Mr. Ripely among many other great stories. So you get two great Patricias with that one. Looking at the list made me realize how much of Fargo is styled like film noir. You betcha!
Robert Boyd
2023-11-23 15:21:00 +0000 UTCAlso like both! I was JUST thinking about War of the Roses!
Eric
2023-11-23 12:42:03 +0000 UTCMan i cant think of any of those films lol my memory is rubbish lol

2023-11-23 12:23:12 +0000 UTCDark City is also a noir mystery so you can murder two birds with one rock

2023-11-23 09:47:40 +0000 UTCI recommend also Both !!!
Florian Meier
2023-11-23 07:54:32 +0000 UTCSweet Smell of Success is definitely not going to win this-What a shame. And I second that motion on you two watching, Touch of Evil. That would have been a close second for me!
Brandon Royce
2023-11-23 07:33:34 +0000 UTCHighly recommend Kiss Me Deadly (1955), which ... er ... kinda coincides with one of your other polls.
Michael SCH
2023-11-23 07:13:08 +0000 UTCI didn’t notice that until just now. 😃

2023-11-23 07:12:45 +0000 UTCNot gonna lie, I only voted for Strangers On A Train because it's the only one I'm slightly familiar with, they reference it in Throw Momma From The Train, which is a Danny De Vito directed dark comedy that I recommend (well that and I also know I really like Hitchcock movies). De Vito also directed War Of The Roses which I recommend even more, also a dark comedy, starring the rest of the Romancing the Stone cast, Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, and Homer Simpson (the voice actor).
Joe D. MacGuffinstuff
2023-11-23 06:50:44 +0000 UTComg yes High and Low. I know they've done a reaction to Seven Samurai, but I'd love to see a full Kurosawa poll at some point in the future (my favorites are Ikiru and High and Low, but I presume some of his other samurai films would garner more votes before those).
Paul Cox
2023-11-23 06:14:34 +0000 UTCI think you mean Double Indemnity
Damon Young
2023-11-23 05:28:39 +0000 UTCRecently discovered a pretty good noir/detective movie that surprised me, it’s an early Gary Oldman movie called Romeo is Bleeding (1993). It’s pretty wild but keeps you fully engrossed. Has probably one of the most frighteningly awesome femme fatale villains I have ever seen as well lol
Gilbert Gonzalez
2023-11-23 05:18:14 +0000 UTCA small correction: It's "Double Indemnity". As in an insurance policy.
David Martin
2023-11-23 05:16:42 +0000 UTCSunset Boulevard is such a great movie but it’s losing in the polls. Definitely recommend.
Sylvan Green
2023-11-23 04:59:22 +0000 UTCI love Strangers on a Train but Hitchcock films should be on their own poll. It’s almost unfair to put them on a genre poll.
Tim Raths
2023-11-23 04:57:30 +0000 UTC@Nick of Time ...Saw that 3 times in theaters when it came out and I literally used my movie request pick for another reacter on Lost Highway just over month ago.
Jimmie V
2023-11-23 04:57:05 +0000 UTCBig time agree! I just saw Out of the Past for the first time a couple weeks ago after hearing/reading people sing its praises for many years and it DELIVERED!
Paul Cox
2023-11-23 04:53:42 +0000 UTCArgh!! Too many good ones. I went with my sentimental favorite, "Laura" First film noir movie I ever saw.
Athos Count de la Fère
2023-11-23 04:53:23 +0000 UTCSweet I'm gonna go watch the Maltese Falcon reaction right now. Mack daddy just means best. It's like saying something is the GOAT, only for old fuckers like me.
Tostito Buddy
2023-11-23 04:52:57 +0000 UTCThese are all good, but a glaring oversight is "Out of the Past". Kathy Moffett (Jane Greer) is one of the top 3 femme fatales in all of moviedom. She checks all of the boxes: A beautiful, manipulative, deceptive woman who betrays literally everyone she's involved with. Any list of the top film noir movies would have Out of the Past near the top. If you do a Neo-Noir list, "Body Heat" and "The Last Seduction" would be the first ones on the list.
David Martin
2023-11-23 04:51:51 +0000 UTCHopefully they at least end up close enough that we get both.
Tyler Foster
2023-11-23 04:45:04 +0000 UTCHad to retract my vote from Strangers on a Train to try and help out Double Indemnity, which might be *the* film I'd show to someone to try and illustrate what film noir is.
Tyler Foster
2023-11-23 04:44:24 +0000 UTCBe sure to check the restored/director's cut of Touch of Evil if it wins.
ED209
2023-11-23 04:42:27 +0000 UTCGreat selection of movies. Some other classics I would recommend include: • Notorious (1946) • Stranger, The (1946) • Out of the Past (1947) • Quai des Orfevres (1947) • Ride the Pink Horse (1947) • Secret Beyond the Door (1947) • Thieves' Highway (1949) • In a Lonely Place (1950) • Affair in Trinidad (1952) • Pickup on South Street (1953) • Big Combo, The (1955) • High and Low (1963) The Coens also have a great noir film, The Man Who Wasn't There (2001).
Tyler Foster
2023-11-23 04:40:03 +0000 UTCNow would be a good time to remind you guys there's a LOT of amazing David Lynch stuff out there.... specifically "Blue Velvet" is the ultimate noir film, IMO.
Jimmie V
2023-11-23 04:37:51 +0000 UTCWhat is Mack daddy noir? We have! We’ve seen Casablanca outside of the channel and The Maltese Falcon on the channel! -Sam
TBR Schmitt
2023-11-23 04:36:34 +0000 UTCThey did Maltese Falcon sort of recently, and they saw Casablanca prior to starting the channel (which is why there's no reaction to it).
Paul Cox
2023-11-23 04:36:28 +0000 UTCThe Big Sleep is mack daddy Noir. Have you guys ever watched a Humphrey Bogart movie?
Tostito Buddy
2023-11-23 04:35:05 +0000 UTCI've watched a lot of old movies and saw none of these so I'm excited to expand my catalog.
Brian's Dog
2023-11-23 04:34:33 +0000 UTCOdd Man Out is on my shortlist of favorite movies ever made, but it's got an uphill climb here. I'll be super happy if Double Indemnity wins (and it should).
Paul Cox
2023-11-23 04:32:00 +0000 UTCDouble Indemnity is quintessential for film noir watching.
