This is where Jeffrey Donovan showed his comedy skills....so good!1

Hanzee's good... really good. But he's not perfect. He fails to bring the rifle into the cabin with him for one thing, leaving it in his truck. I double checked, and he definitely fires 4 shots at Hank and Lou - the last two are in really close succession. Normally small continuity errors aren't a big deal, but this time I think they totally nailed it with the number of bullets. Even if the gun was a 6-shooter and he had reloaded before going to the cabin, he still fires 5 shots and would have had one bullet left to shoot Ed with. But the gun is empty after a total of 8 shots throughout the episode.

Brandon

Have to agree with you two that one winds up feeling bad for Hanzee...and I want to know why Dodd called him a "half-breed". Is Hanzee an actual son of one of the Gearhardts ? And Hanzees face when he says "I'm tired of this life" is so sad. Not making excuses but imagine who raised hom ( he was with Gearhardts since 8 yrs old...and then THREE tours in Vietnam and especially being a tunnel rat. Talk about traumatic upbringing. Also learned something about how to deal with hostages....don't stab them too much. Fun fact since you now have kids....my son was around 3 or 4 (so 1990) and came into kitchen where I was making breakfast...he looks at me and says "do we have any hostages?" I paused to remember what was in basement ...joking. He meant sausages.

Not sure I agree with you on your theory that Hanzees revolver is an 8 shot. On replay I see it's not. Plus you have to know that someone like Hanzee would have reloaded after shooting...he would not walk around with a half empty handgun. No way would he walk around with that weakness. He shot two rounds at racist idiots in alley, one at bartender...one at Dodd and 3 at cops, so it is just a continuity error.

Anthony Perez

Not sure if it has been mentioned before, but the actress playing the salon owner also was in the Homeland series playing the President of the US. The show was absolutely amazing. Should be on your to watch list, as well as Ray Donovan

Sorry for the long comment, but this show always leaves me with so much to say. πŸ˜† When I first learned how to use Adobe Premiere, I made my own edit of episodes 7 and 8 that puts all of the scenes in chronological order. I made a few cuts so that you don't see two opening credit sequences, but it actually works really well as an extended 2 hour episode. Whenever I watch season 2, I always watch the first 6 episodes, then my edit, then episodes 9 and 10. This was my first time seeing episodes 7 and 8 separately in a long time. You guys already mentioned the shopkeeper scene being a lot like 'No Country for Old Men'. A few other people mentioned the references to Fargo, but here's the other Coen references I caught this week: 1. The knife in Dodd's foot is definitely a reference to 'Blood SImple' when Frances McDormand stabs the killer through his hand and pins him down so he has to pull it out to free himself. 2. You can actually keep track of the number of bullets in Hanzee's revolver which will let you know he's empty before he tries to shoot Ed at the end of the episode. He's using what I think is a Smith and Wesson revolver that holds 8 bullets. The first two bullets hit two guys in the knee outside of the bar (Wounded Knee). The third bullet hits the bartender. The 4th bullet kills Dodd. Then he fires all 4 of the remaining bullets at Hank and Lou, which leaves the gun empty. In 'Blood Simple' you can keep track of the bullets in the gun Frances McDormand ends up using and know that she only has 1 bullet left in the final showdown.

Wonderful as Season 1 is (and I LOVE it), I think you guys are beginning to see why a lot of us think Season 2 is some of the very greatest television ever put on screen. God, I love this series!

VivendoBem

My 2nd favorite episode in this series (2nd only to episode 9). Lou, Mike Milligan, Hanzee, and all the other characters are great, but really Peggy for me is amazing. Not only does she go through a transformation, but she is also physically determined the way she is able to turn Dodd on his ass, and even attack Hanzee.

Dajefe70

Yeah also Peggy hitting the TV to try to get better reception just like Carl did as well.

Dajefe70

Even more film references! During the scene when Dodd is tied up with a pillowcase over his head, you'll see the oven open for warmth which is just like when Jerry's wife was tied up in the cabin. Also, when Hanzie is talking to the shop owner, the owner quotes Ed, "We're going crazy down there at the lake" which is just about the same thing Steve Buscemi's character says according to that short scene with the cop talking to the old man. And finally, Hanzie is driving around the lake looking for a specific model and color car. Hanzie looking for a blue Lincoln while Marge was looking for the tan Sierra.

Jeffrey Miller

Glad you guys enjoyed that one. Can honestly say it's my favorite single episode of television ever made. Up there with True Detective Season 1 finale.

Kody Walker

the ed/peggy/dodd dynamic was incredible and I'm so happy they dedicated an entire episode to it. I'd say it was my favorite because of how it built off 7, but the last 2 are contenders as well. Great discussion, fully actualized

Mike Milligan

EPS 8-10 are peak television! This episode is so good, so funny, so dark, me and my ex couldn’t help but laugh out loud when the credits came up

Marshall Mitcham

After Hanzee shot the guys at the bar, I knew he would kill Dodd. This episode was so absurd but so good. I started watching the series with you, but after episode 6 of this season I couldn't wait and watched the remaining episodes. πŸ™ˆ Not gonna spoil anything but the ending of this season is incredible. This season is my favourite so far, also because of Patrick Wilson as Lou. Easily my favourite character, such a badass. 😊

Stephanie

Please, do 9 and 10 together!

David Martin

Ed's complaint to the gas station owner "We're going crazy down there at the lake." echoes the same complaint that Carl (Steve Buscemi) made to the bartender that led to Marge discovering the kidnappers hideout in the film.
