We’ve seen Breaking Bad, unfortunately! -Sam

I guess I'm more alone in thinking seasons 3 and 4 are excellent. They aren't as good as 1 and 2, but STILL great IMO. I think the themes in 3/4 get a little more nebulous because they're trying to cover more than in 1/2. Still excellent storytelling for a weekly series, though and I'm dying to get into season 5 when it starts on the 21st.

The Coen Bros. references I spotted this time around: 1. Hank and the other Sheriff's conversation with Floyd is a lot like some of the conversations Tommy Lee Jones has with other "old timers" in 'No Country for Old Men'. 2. Simone is listening to a cover of 'Just Dropped In' by Kenny Rogers, a song that appears in 'The Big Lebowski'. The same song plays over the credits. 3. In Lou and Mike's conversation, Mike uses the phrase "sometimes there's a man..." before Ben interrupts him. The Stranger in 'The Big Lebowski' says the same thing before trailing off and losing his train of thought. 4. 'Danny Boy' is a song that's also used in Miller's Crossing in a very memorable scene. I think you guys still need to react to that movie. 😉 5. The song "O death" plays right before Mike meets the Undertaker. It's an old American folk song that's also used in 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' Also, notice the way the camera angle changes to an overhead shot from a high place right before Bear kills Simone. Like the whole scene is being watched from above by a UFO. This is also the first time racism in the workplace comes up - and the first time Mike Milligan being black is ever brought up. He's seen as smart and capable. BUT the second he stops getting results his race suddenly becomes the reason for his mistakes; something white people never have to defend if they mess up at work. It speaks to his character's state of mind that he has to go so far out of his way to seem well spoken, well read and intelligent, unlike any of the thugs he's associated with.

she is both a foil to, and a spitting image of her father, despite her best efforts not to be. Dumb decisions, but ultimately tragic. Great acting regardless

Mike Milligan

I know you get a lot of suggestions, but if you want to capture the feel of this series, closest is "Legion". It is the same show-runner (Noah Hawley), and he uses a lot of the same actors, including Jean Smart. Technically Marvel, but not MCU (loosely based off of some Xmen characters, you certainly dont need to be comic fans to enjoy it). The directing and cinematography is as refreshing as Fargo, and the story is incredibly fun to try and piece together over a quick 8 episodes. Performances are, of course, wonderful. Very underrated imo. The first season is up there with this one in my top 5 seasons of TV, but i recognize I'm biased. (I should mention, its a lot more acid trip than crime drama, but the dark comedy remains). Thanks for reacting to this series guys, you're the best.

Mike Milligan

Season 3 was good, I mean it stars Ewan McGregor, and also continues the streak of good villains, as well as an epic callback to Season 1. But Season 4, definitely should be skipped, I was so bored that I just decided to stop watching mid-season after trying. Agreed that a break should be taken to reset expectations.

Dajefe70

Fargo seasons 3,4 are nowhere near as good, So I vote for a break. perhaps get into another great series like Mad men or Breaking bad???

Chris Bruneau

I was just thinking the same thing. I suggested the offer awhile back. They would enjoy it

Mr. Chumpus

Idk what show you guys will react to next but I'm gonna throw "The Offer" back on the table 😁 maybe it can be on the list for sometime next year 🤔😁 it's on Paramount plus, only One season, If you loved The Godfather you'll enjoy this, It's about the making of that great film!

dieselbeast

It's a good time to drop Fargo and start Better Call Saul. The acting, writing, and directing are outstanding.

Mr. Chumpus

Well to be fair, season 3 was alright....but after 1 and 2 that felt like a major letdown. Season 4 was a bit confusing and dragged at times, character development didn't feel as engaging. Still probably pretty good TV, but again when being compared to an admittedly ridiculous high standard of 1 & 2 just made it disappointing.

Good to know! I think we’re going to be taking a Fargo break after this season just with some timing with other shows we watch, but definitely keep letting us know what your thoughts are! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

The actors in this show are top notch!! Agree with Floyd and Betsy, but fantastic! We didn’t catch that! I love when you guys point out the connections to Coen Brothers films lol -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Karl is great! I don’t know if you mean references in the show or references for us, but I think we caught it at some point haha but didn’t make the connection to Rocky, just the actor! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I can’t with the Betsy scenes! 😭 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I agree with JVTrickypantd and Jeffrey! We’ve already watched a couple episodes past this one, but I think it’s valid. I don’t remember which episode is was in, but we talked about how awful Dodd was to her, but it was not a smart decision to go against her family 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ll leave it there in case others are watching for the first time as we’re putting up the episodes. -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Are those seasons really that bad? I haven't seen them myself, but I'm interested in why you think they're not worth watching, without spoilers of course.

Jeffrey Miller

So excited for next episode (got it confused and thought it was this one), but of course this one was so damn good too!! I vote actually that to keep a good taste in your mouth with Fargo is to maybe skip season 3 and 4, but start on the one that begins November 21st....

JVTrickypants

Jean Smart as Floyd is tremendous, so good. And Cristin Milioti as Betsy, aw man, hard not to get teary eyed by her performance. Btw I don't know if you caught it but that disco song at the end (and it was playing in Simone's car) is a different version of the song from The Big Lebowski, the "Gutterballs" fever dream segment lol. There are a lot of little references, in all the seasons of the show, to other Coen Brothers' movies too.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

I think Karl is my favorite minor character. Very full of himself but actually does have empathy. I may have missed it, but has there been any references to the fact the character's name is "Karl Weathers" which is the name of the actor who played Apollo Creed, only with a C instead of K? Rocky would have come out just a couple years before this season takes place.

Jeffrey Miller

Yeah, it's not really the betrayal that bothers me about Simone. It was just how dumb of a plan it was. Like, the fact she kept going back to Michael to give more information made it inevitable she would get caught. The whole idea of loyalty in organized crime, even within families, is a farce. Everyone says they have these rules and ethics, but they can always give a reason as to why when they broke the rules, it was ok.

Jeffrey Miller

I think it's next episode we see what sets off Hanzee

Smooticus

I do agree that don't really hate her, but she also could have gotten out of there if she was so miserable (I do understand not easy to leave, etc). She didn't have to actively assist the enemy.

JVTrickypants

I've never been through a situation like Lou and Betsy are going through but the scene with Betsy and Karl tore me up. Betsy is definitely one of the strongest female characters ever written. And Lou is bad-ass and so is his father-in-law. Guess from now on I will have to have tissues next to me. All I had was bread from a chili bowl...which sorta works.

Anthony Perez

Tbh I don't understand your animosities against Dodds daughter. Her family, especially her father treated her like sh*t and they're also a bunch of criminals and murderers. So, who cares that they got betrayed by her? I understand why she did it and I wouldn't feel bad for anyone of them, if they got killed (except for Bears son).

Stephanie

Yeaaaaahhh buddy!!!!
