Yes, Mystic River! There are many movies, and about as many reasons for watching them. But truthfully, I’m ready for substance, and this selection brings it, both subject and filmmaking.

Too bad your schedule is full for the month because it would be cool to get a couple film noir reactions for Noirvember. Double Indemnity and Sunset Boulevard would be perfect watches.

Same. I think me and a couple others had recommended it after they watched Prisoners, which put it on their radar. I messaged it as a follow-up recc in October, and Sam said that they're going to include it in one of the upcoming polls, so that might be our time to strike!/vote. Meanwhile, I've been mentioning it here and there to help keep it from collecting dust. Haha.

Are we the same person? LOL. I’d include Batman Returns since they’re about to watch Batman 89. I think Returns is far superior as a film, and it does take place At Christmas.

Like a lot of people, I watched Mystic River once, loved it, then never returned to it. It's a tough watch, but I'm really looking forward to my long-overdue second viewing with you.
I know you plan a long way out, so here are my Christmas recommendations:
Eyes Wide Shut (1999). Some people hate it, some people love it. I started with hate and moved on to love. I watch it most Christmases now. Kubrick, Cruise, Kidman, and about a thousand Christmas trees!
The Ref (1994). After watching nearly all of your full-length reactions, and getting a very good idea of your tastes, I think this is the Christmas film that you've not seen that you'll love the most. A very dark comedy, and maybe my favourite "Christmas Eve Vibe" in any movie I've seen.

Finally, We Were Soldiers, woo-HOO! My personal favorite war movie of all time🤘 Is there anyway to mute specific people on here?

Well, to that end, I practiced a couple of snappy one-liners to have ready just in case I ever got shot, but never got to use them.

I stay away from Mel Gibson but really looking forward to Mystic River! Only seen it once, and it was a while ago, but it is my favorite Eastwood film, behind or in front of the camera. That’s how good I think it is.

when the film came out, some critics said the dialogue was "sappy"--Hal Moore himself gave an interview and said, "I wish my solders could have said some thing more "appropriate" when they were dying--but those were their actual words"

Dan and Sam; "we were soldiers", is based on a book by Joe Galloway, a journalist who was actually present during the battle of Ia Drang. (he's played by Barry Pepper) I read that book, and I want you to know every detail in that film really happened--so its eerily like a documentary. (even I thought some unbelievable stuff was made-up or exaggerrated, but its ALL real)

IT BETTER BE! The story is one of the greatest of all time in its genre, and that 2002 adaptation is so enjoyable. I've come back to it time and again, and recently shared it with some friends who really liked it.

It’s hard for me to pick between this and Million Dollar Baby. I also love all the trash he directed in the 70s and 80s. He took a long time before he made a truly GOOD movie.

Proof Jim Caviezel could have been an Oscar winning star if he wasn’t so hard to work with and didn’t rot his brain with Q-anon. Genuinely great film.

We Were Soldiers is literally the ONLY Vietnam movie my Father, Uncle, and two cousins (all of whom are Vietnam vets) will watch. The other, famous ones from the 70s and 80s were mostly written and directed by anti-military folks and it shows, people far more interested in delivering a one -sided message than researching or accurately depicting anything. WWS, on the other hand, is an incredibly accurate depiction of a real, historical battle. I know some people complain about its sentimentality. As a vet of a different war, I can absolutely verify that people who are dying (and have time to think about it) tend to get sentimental.
