It's a pretty good game, but seriously, I'm kind of surprised there wasn't some kind of civil case over it. Edit: Ok, not gonna lie. I wasn't a fan of the ending. Not because I wanted Pita to be dead, but it felt very deus ex machina. Like, there was absolutely no foreshadowing that she could be alive and all of a sudden it's like, "Hey, she's still alive. I could have tried to get another ransom from you, but I was keeping her for...reasons." I mean, what was the bad guy going to do? Auction her off to some random family? It feels like Pita was supposed to be dead at the end, but test screenings scared the producers so they changed the ending even though it doesn't really make sense. I'm not saying that's what happened, but it really feels that way. I honestly wouldn't have minded it if the reveal wasn't so sudden and out of nowhere with no real logic. If they could have inserted a little doubt about Pita's fate I think I would have enjoyed the ending a lot more and it sure would have made a lot more sense.

And of course Denzel... well there are no words to describe how good he always is, that is why I just say Denzel, because that is the highest praise I can give to an actor.

2023-11-01 14:14:52 +0000 UTCI've always loved the book this is based on, and I even kinda like the first film adaptation from 1987 with Scott Glenn, but this movie is BY FAR the best version of the story. Denzel is great, of course, but Dakota Fanning is just astonishing in a role that so easily could have been overly sentimental and cutesy. Between Denzel, Dakota, Walken and Tony Scott's panache, this is a masterclass is charisma.

The action ones like this and the Equalizers are fine but they don’t do him complete justice. Denzel is a proper ACTOR. He’s not Arnold, Sly or Keanu, people with limited range that you don’t mind watching torture or kill people for 2 hours. Some of Denzel’s better ones: Cry Freedom, Malcolm X, Philadelphia, Devil In A Blue Dress, He Got Game, Remember The Titans, Training Day, Inside Man, Flight, Fences, The Tragedy of Macbeth.
