Sports Film Poll!

Help pick the Sports movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

*NOTE: I have seen Brian's Song, Friday Night Lights, Warrior, and The Wrestler, so this would only be Sam's first time reaction. Sam has seen The Sandlot, so this would only be my first time reaction.

We received a ton suggestions on the last polls, but we are trying to keep the poll sizes more reasonable. We have noted all suggestions for future polls!

Comments

Next sports poll gotta add Hardball from 2001. Great Keanu flick and awesome ensemble acting by the kids in the movie

Robert Flores

John Huston's Fat City (1972) with Stacy Keach and Jeff Bridges. boxing film.

Birdie Num Num

The ongoing blight of numerical popularity. 😢

David Wilkins

The Sandlot is beating The Natural? Riiight

Odd Thomas

"The Wrestler" and" Sandlot" for me. For some reason though, Sandlot keeps getting mixed up in my mind with Stephen King's "Stand By Me".

FischerMax98

"Who dat?? Who dere??" is a quote from "The Water Boy", I use just about every day when I first wake up. jk

Guston Zimasheen

"Waaaaaater sucks! It really, really sucks!" XD

EdmanXERO

Cool Runnings is awesome

Aaron Barlow

@Sam Yeah, it's relatively unknown unfortunately but a fantastic family film with a beautiful score from James Horner. It centres around a chess prodigy but one doesn't need to be a chess player to relate to it.

Aaron Barlow

@Paul Great series!

Aaron Barlow

We have both seen The Waterboy! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Raging Bull is already on the channel! But thank you for the remaining suggestions :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

We had this one on the last poll and it was in last :( We figured we'd give some other movies a shot and then we can try this one again! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Hoping for a Double Watch ;) "Million Dollar Baby" and "The Sandlot"

Florian Meier

Has one of both of the hosts seen THE WATERBOY (1998)?

David W.

If there' ever another military/war movie poll, I'd like to recommend "Zero Dark Thirty", and "13 Hours". ZD30 isn't the most historically accurate movie but it's really good for what it is and has a great cast. 13 Hours is very accurate, the guys who were there say as much, although IMO it's not quite as good of a movie as ZD30.

Bobby_Z24

"Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings" (1977) Baseball movie starring: James Earl Jones, Billy Dee Williams, and Richard Pryor. That's Darth Vader and Lando Calrisian playing on the same team!

Mr. Writhms

I was just thinking about that one myself. what an incredible and under appreciated movie

Smooticus

I 2nd the Longest Yard. One of Burt Reynolds best movies

Smooticus

Shaolin Soccer could be on this list, but in reality, it should already be on the watch list after the Kung Fu Hustle reaction

Mr. Chumpus

I suggest Breaking Away (1979).

Samolina Pilchard

What a list! In terms of "classics," you guys really need to watch "The Hustler," and its 1986 sequel, "The Color of Money." But I voted for "Million Dollar Baby," which deserves all the praise it received; "The Wrestler," which is a marvel of characterization; and "The Natural," which is simply the best baseball movie ever made. "Bull Durham" is good, but "The Natural" is based on a novel by a great American author, Bernard Malamud, and is the most exciting and romantic movie on the list. I also think you should see "Hoosiers," which may be the single best sports movie ever. This list gives me chills: there's not a dog or a loser on it!

William 1611

the good news for you is they have a reaction to Major League on the channel already. Great movie!!

Mark M

For future suggestions :- 1975 Rollerball (Sci-Fi/Sport) & 1974 The Longest Yard (Drama/Sport).

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

Major League

John Frilando

I really want you guys to watch

John Frilando

Speaking of that, The Queen's Gambit would be a great choice of short TV series for them to react to.

Paul Cox

Please add The Fighter to future polls.

UNC

How is THE NATURAL not way up there? That's a must MFin' see!

Philip Davetas

"Hoosiers" (1986) has some beautiful November/December cinematography.

Erwin Quiachon

Hoping for Million Dollar Baby!!

Florian Meier

Raging Bull (1980) Cool Runnings (1993) Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001) Shaolin Soccer (2001) Goon (2011) Eddie the Eagle (2016)

Vlasios Vougiouklis

I'll have to go back and watch it then. Thanks!

Eric

I think they have a reaction to Miracle.

Mark M

Jerry Maguire and Rudy are my faves on the list.

Jonathan Patrick

Where is Miracle (2004)?

Eric

β€œDon’t move until you see it,” is regular thought of mine when facing a challenge in any kind of game involving strategy.

Jimmie V

Warrior is friggin EPIC🀘

ShadowVessel Ο€

The Natural

Odd Thomas

I think 'Searching for Bobby Fischer' is a great sports movie missing from this. Chess is kind of a sport.

Aaron Barlow

Secoded for The Wrestler, also from someone who is completely uninterested in WWE wrestling. Mickey Rourke is one of my all time favs.

Alec S

Again, a lot of great movies in this poll, but if you want to see an amazing human story, The Wrestler is exceptional, and this is coming from someone who detests wrestling in general. Mickey Rourke, despite whoever he is outside of acting, brought it SO HARD for this film. It is dark, grimy, and 110% believable. I dunno, I just freaking loved it, and I know you would too. Million Dollar Baby.... admittedly absolutely amazing as well. If Sandlot wins, that's great, because it is a super cute movie, but when you want your heart in real, human drama, The Wrestler and Million Dollar Baby is where it's at.

Eric J Watkins

Throwing out a suggestion for ya ... Whip It (2009) directed by Drew Barrymore. It's a fun chill roller derby flick .

john francis

I’d say The Sandlot is much more coming-of-age than sports, although that also plays a big part. So maybe do the runner-up as well if it’s close? Personally, I’d love to see White Men Can’t Jump since the NBA season is right around the corner! Edit: Forget what I said about doing the runner-up. MDB is 2nd, that’s one of those, β€˜How did this win best picture?’ ones

Shehab Dawoud

Great list. I went with Rudy because if neither of you have seen it, its one of the classics that is referenced a lot. Next time, I'd suggest Hoosiers, with Gene Hackman, which is my favorite sports movie.

David Anderson

the sandlot!

Walter White

These are all great choices. I'm torn between "The Sandlot" and "White Men Can't Jump". Both are great films!

EdmanXERO

It's sort of futile to suggest it because I'm sure it will never win a poll, but one of my favorite boxing movies is the 2000 Karyn Kusama film Girlfight, which was Michelle Rodriguez's first movie.

Tyler Foster

Warrior or Rudy!

David Crabtree

Bull Durham is my least favorite of Costner's baseball trilogy. My favorite is actually For Love of the Game, but that's as much a romance as it is a sports movie, so it often slides down people's rankings because dudes aren't allowed to like love stories or something.

Paul Cox

It won't win, but I voted for The Natural. Robert Redford is effortlessly charming.

Athos Count de la Fère

I went with Million Dollar Baby.

Tim Raths

Some fantastic movies here but as I've suggested it many a time gotta go with the hustler as I want you to both watch the color of money so bad 🀞

Ian

So many bangers on this list. I hope Bull Durham wins.
