Tim Burton Film Poll!

Help pick the Tim Burton movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

*NOTE: I have seen Big Fish so this would only be Sam's first time reaction. Sam has been Pee-wee's Big Adventure so this would only be my first time reaction.

Also agree 100%

Mike Tocci

Even though it's not going to win, I say this in a Hungarian accent... "Let's shoot this fucker!"

Ellie Miller

I can't agree with this enough!

Robert Livingood

Batman is overrated, watch Ed Wood!!

Chris Bruneau

I'm not a particular Tim Burton fan (my sister loved his movies though), but out of all the movies my sister made me watch of his, Big Fish is by far my favorite.

Mario

You can see at the letterbox that they watched both Beetlejuice

Florian Meier

That 1st Batman movie is a classic. After that 1 movie, they didn't get good again until The Dark Knight. But that 1st one with Michael Keaton, that's a banger!!

Lovaire Hawkins

How come Beetlejuice isn’t on this list ? Did you guys see it already? It’s a shame Batman is running away with it. “Ed Wood” is the best movie on this list IMHO.

Samolina Pilchard

I'm not crazy about Tim Burton, but I voted for "Ed Wood." But you kinda need to see "Plan 9 from Outer Space" to get all the references. Martin Landau's performance is excellent, and the script is so good that even Johnny Depp couldn't screw it up. (Not a fan, LOL!)

William 1611

Batman Returns for Christmas movie.

Mark M

Well, I don’t know how much is actually known by the Wikipedia article writer. I’m going by interviews I’ve heard with the various people involved, but I’m also middle aged and my memory isn’t flawless. At the end of the day, the second film cost almost 20 million more and made almost 200 million less. Hardly a failure, but they replaced him and also canned his Superman project with Nick Cage. And I like the second—I’ll watch Catwoman prance around all day long. 😁

Warren H

I just want to say I really respect your honesty here. A lot of reactions on Youtube are super fake and played up for the camera, and I wonder how many of them have already seen/heard the stuff they're reacting to a dozen times before.

Jango Jenkins

ugh y’all still gotta watch big fish anyway it’s so good

Brayden Fast

I'm glad to see Batman is in the lead. I've been waiting for the channel to react to it for a long while. If it gets overtaken by another though, I'm definitely rooting for Sleepy Hollow.

Kyle

Story goes that he got fired for making the movie "too dark" and the studio receiving huge backlash from McDonalds (who were marketing happy meal toys for the film) and parental groups (who were outraged that a "kid's film" could being so "dark and scary"). Hard not to believe it considering where Forever and B&R went. All I know is on review aggregator sites both the 1989 movie and Returns are fairly close in terms of scores. Well either way no matter which movie someone prefers, Batman is definitely a movie to watch just because of that history of how much of a huge blockbuster it was at the time.

Kyle

I really enjoy Sleepy Hollow, but it’s a love letter to the Hammer Horror films, which are…iconic but very low budget and rather campy now. At the time they came out, they terrified a lot of people, but many younger viewers find them dull and poorly paced. I only say this because kind of like seeing Austin Powers without seeing any Bond Films, I fear Sleepy Hollow may lose some oomph if you don’t know what it’s referencing. But I could be wrong! Some of the older cast members were actually in the Hammer productions decades before, so it was neat seeing them there. It’s also worth mentioning that Sleepy Hollow is NOT low budget, and I think looks like what the Hammer Studio wanted its films to look like if only they’d had the money (and of course technology had advanced dramatically). Actually, in that way, it’s similar to the Indiana Jones movies being a tribute to the New Republic Serial Adventures. Now THOSE were low budget. 😁

Warren H

I dunno—the first one was so well received that it became a world sensation at the time (I was there in the round-the-block theater lines); the second one so poorly received that Tim got uninvited by WB from making more. Granted, Joel didn’t improve things with the next outings. I thought Michelle’s cat woman was steller, but the penguin…well, Tim got the inclusion of the penguin forced on him by the studio, he didn’t want to do it, and it shows. DeVito swung for the fences, and I think he did the best possible with what he was given, but the role is cited (by him) among his “swing and a miss” outings. A shame—you’d think after the first one shattered box office expectations, the studio would have trusted Tim and not interfered.

Warren H

Replace sleepy with ed wood. Sleepy is pop corn, the other 3 are grandmas stew.

Vlasios Vougiouklis

Im 100% of the opposite opinion. You go into the real movies and THEN you go into the fantasy world that is ed wood. Woods movies wont get any better because you've seen ed wood but ed wood will be a lot more fun and its sentiment more impactful if you already know what it is referencing. Eat your vegetables before the dessert. Or just skip the vegetables, honestly. RRR

Batman 89 isn't that great imo but a necessary watch to get to the better sequel

Odd Thomas

Hey John, just wanted to say, I'm so sorry man. This last June, I went through the whole thing. Big Fish is also one of my all-time favorites, and I've already watched it again since, and of course reacted as you can imagine. It is so powerful and beautifully written. Wishing you peace and love in the days to come.

Eric J Watkins

Batman 89 is a perfect November movie. Batman Returns is even better than the first and it takes place around Christmas, so it lines up pretty well to watch it in December!

Shehab Dawoud

I grew up with Jack Nicholson as Joker!! So easliy Batman for me

Florian Meier

Looks like Batman is already winning, if it does will you guys watch Batman Returns at some point? It's the second Michael Keaton batman, it's a Tim Burton fever dream. It's great.

Tostito Buddy

We were hoping for a quick watch 😂 just kidding! I completely missed that this was a short film lol -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I knew it wasn't a feature, but I didn't realize it was that short. And here I was thinking (the original) Frankenweenie would've been the joke option.

Paul Cox

I voted Edward Scissorhands since it's a childhood classic for me. Either way, I'm here for that or Batman.

EdmanXERO

Surprised nobody else has mentioned that Vincent is a 6-minute short film and not a feature.

Tyler Foster

Unfortunately, we've both seen it! This is one of those movies that I wish I could wipe from my memory just to watch again for the first time. I love it! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Thank you, John! Although I don't know the context, I can imagine this must be a difficult time for you and your family. Sending all our love to you and your dad! When we were putting this poll together, Daniel said Big Fish is in his top films, so I look forward to watching it at some point with you guys :) <3 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Ooh good to know! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Not enough channels have reacted to Ed Wood. It’s Burton’s best film.

Tim Raths

Oh no where's Mars Attacks!(1996)?

mikethemotormouth

Batman is mandatory pop culture viewing - but it isn't very good. Full disclosure - I like it and always will because I saw it in theaters when I was 8 and its hard to shake those early imprints but still... I had to go with Scissorhands, Pee-wee or Sleepy.

Sergeant Pepper

Batman 89. That is all. I didn’t even bother reading any other choice lol. That’s the one I want. And Batman Begins and The Flash. Haha

Jason Dolan

Hey guys, a much belated congrats on the newest addition to your family! I know there are some more popular and classics films on this list, but I had to put my vote in for my all time favorite Tim Burton film, Big Fish. Without trying to go into potential spoilers for Sam, my father is currently going through a similar situation as the father in that film, so I have a feeling I'll resonate emotionally even more the next time I watch it. It would be a privilege to experience the film again with the 2 of you, so I'll keep my fingers crossed!

John Sutherland

People not voting for Big Fish are missing a 100% chance of WEEPING SCHMITTS. Yes, Daniel has seen it already. There will be crying regardless!!

Paul Cox

Batman. My first superhero movie I saw in a theater. I loved Jack Nicholson, so I began watching most of his previous work.

Athos Count de la Fère

Of course it's gotta be Batman.

Samuel Bruce

Totally a side conversation, but watching 'Ed Wood' before actually watching any of Ed Wood's films is the move. If you go into those things cold (Glen or Glenda, Plan 9 From Outer Space, et al), you will have zero context for them and likely hate them.
