This was my first time seeing Halloween 2 in years. I had to laugh out loud at the hydrotherapy pool kill. Every time they cut to the thermometer It was only a bit past 120 F and the max on the gauge was only 140 F. Water needs to reach 212 F to boil. They just wanted a more violent kill than a drowning and every time they cut to that thermometer they want you to be horrified.

Carpenter was a busy bee during that time, the same year he directed Escape from New York and the next he produced Halloween 3 and directed The Thing.
Carpenter had no interests in directing sequels. Of the 21 movies he directed he made only one of them (Escape from L.A.). When the idea came about of making Halloween a film series Carpenter suggested making it an anthology series where each film would be a different standalone story set on Halloween. Make it some kind of yearly tradition. The production company only okayed the idea if he made a traditional sequel first. So he agreed to write/produce Halloween 2 (he even did reshoots for the film to up the gore and violence in order to compete with the wave of slashers inspired by Halloween like Friday the 13th). That's why Michael and Loomis were killed off and everything was wrapped in a bow.
Carpenter's music credit on the film is merely because of how much the film reuses and rearranges his score from the original. Alan Howarth became Carpenter's musical collaborator on Escape from New York and would fill that position on every Carpenter score until the end of the 80's (The Thing and Starman were composed by Ennio Morricone and Jack Nitzsche respectively). He's really the one in charge of Halloween 2' score and became the sole composer for Halloween 4-6.
Carpenter produced, co-composed the score, conceived the story and did an uncredited rewrite on the script of Halloween 3. The film was directed by Tommy Lee Wallace ( art director of Halloween and The Fog) with cinematography from Dean Cundey who shot Halloween 1-3, The Fog, Escape from New York, The Thing and Big Trouble in Little China. While the film made money and had the Carpenter tone and look it severely underperformed compared to the previous 2 and the fans were appalled at the complete change in direction. Halloween 2 had created a pattern of expectation. Halloween was a slasher series with Michael Myers as the villain.
Disappointed, Carpenter sold all of his Halloween rights to the production company and washed his hands of the series entirely until the newest trilogy where he came back as a consultant/executive producer and composer (alongside his son Cody and godson Daniel Davies).

Glad you had fun watching this one. Not nearly as good as the original, in my opinion, but certainly better than a lot of the other films in the series. The only other two in the series I would recommend are Halloween H20 (1998) which serves as a sequel to the first and second films, and Halloween (2018) which disregards the second film and only serves as a sequel to the original. Also, it was great seeing Donald Pleasance again as Dr. Loomis. An underrated actor who brought a lot of credibility to the franchise. You’ve actually seen him before on the channel in Escape from New York, where he was the President, and The Great Escape, where he played the Forger who loses his eyesight throughout the film.

It was interesting I saw Skip Schoolnik in the credits. He edited this film. He was one of the directors on Buffy/Angel, and even had a character named after him on the show. (dunno if it was in Buffy or Angel)
I think you guys should treat these horror movies with a lot of sequels as like regular series that you did like Stallone or any other movie series coz if you only watch them around Halloween there's like 10+ Halloween films, 10+ Friday the 13th films.. Has Ft13 2 even watch yet on the channel?
Halloween III you can save until next Halloween or something as it has nothing to do with Michael Myers. You definitely should absolutely watch 4 and 5.
I dunno what this is with the timelines surrounding Jamie Lee Curtis but there's much more than just her character. I obviously don't remember the rest of the films but IV and V were my favorites, you definitely have to at least watch those.

I don't remember at all what I thought of it, but I remember thinking that it was dumb that it had nothing to do with Michael Myers.
Then 4 and 5 continue the story.

Halloween H20 is basically Halloween 3 in a way

I was just watching a documentary series on Shudder, first episode was about Michael Myers, and someone said something about Halloween being a really "choose your own adventure" franchise, because you can watch it in so many ways. One way is to watch 1 and 2, then skip everything and watch Halloween H20 because that's when they bring back Jamie Lee. But of course I also hear part 3 is good even though it has little to nothing to do with Michael Myers or Laurie Strode.
And then there are the newer ones which I haven't seen yet and just found out Danny McBride co-wrote. I personally didn't like the Rob Zombie reboot but I only watched the first one and only once, sometimes I change my mind after a rewatch, so I'll probably watch it again at some point.
But yeah, that documentary series on Shudder is about movie monsters and I've so far only seen the first episode but it was cool, recommend if you have the time and like horror movies like I do.

Not a fan of 2, but 3 is good (albeit without MM). The rest of the 80s/90s sequels I honestly wouldn't bother with. I really liked the Rob Zombie remakes from 2007-2009 and then the newest trilogy with Jamie Lee Curtis returning for Halloween 2018, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. These ignore pretty much everything that happened in the 80's/90s so you could just skip to them and not really miss anything.

Long overdue but very happy you watched this one. Definitely one of the best sequels. Glad you were able to appreciate the differences and creativity in the kills.
I love early on when Sam goes: "He shot him like six times!" I went: "Yeah, you're gonna hear more of that” XD.
Some things that people miss the first time: The woman who comes for Loomis later on in the film is the nurse who was with him in the car when Michael escaped. The young kid who was run over and set on fire, Ben Tramer, is a kid who Laurie had a crush on, they were talking about it in the first film.
Alright, so now it gets a bit heavy, but I'm about to go through the different timelines, canons, etc. of the Halloween franchise, and give my personal opinion.
First timeline: Halloween (1978), Halloween 2 (1981), Halloween 3: Season of The Witch, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988), Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1990), Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995). That's the original timeline. It should be noted that Halloween 3 deviates very much, as it has NOTHING to do with Myers or the first two films. They wanted to create an anthology series, but the reception was poor, so it was scrapped. It has gotten a bit of a cult following, but I'd say skip it.
Halloween 4 was not well received by critics, but most fans like it. It has a really creepy atmosphere. Halloween 5 is generally not well-liked, while 6 divides opinions amongst fans. It's a guilty pleasure of mine, I gotta say, especially the alternate version. Jamie Lee is NOT in any of 4, 5, or 6.
Second timeline: Halloween (1978), Halloween 2 (1981), Halloween: H20 (1998), Halloween: Resurrection (2002). In this timeline, Jamie Lee is back! H20 takes place 20 years after the first two films, and it wipes out 4, 5, 6, so they become non-factors. I'd say it's generally well-received. Resurrection takes place a few years after H20 and is universally hated.
Third timeline: Halloween (1978), Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills (2021), Halloween Ends (2022). Now in this timeline, EVERY movie is wiped out from existence, except for the first one. So, Laurie and Michael being brother and sister is not a thing. We pick up 40 years after the first one with the 2018 movie. Halloween Kills takes place immediately after 2018, on the same night. And Ends takes place 3-4 years after 18 and Kills. Halloween 18 was a breath of fresh air, most people really liked it, and it gave us expectations for the following two. Unfortunately, both of them were a hot mess. Kills had some good elements, such as awesome flashback scenes from that night in 78, but that was about it. Halloween Ends, I genuinely have no comments.
There are also two remakes of the first two films: Halloween (2007) and Halloween 2 (2009). Both are directed by Rob Zombie. These movies try to give Michael a backstory and explain why he turned out the way he did. That totally backfires for various reasons. There are very few good things about these two movies.
So, my recommendations: Definitely AVOID 3: Season of The Witch, and the Rob Zombie remakes. I think most agree with that. As for others, there's definitely more bad than good, but I love the franchise, Michael Myers is a hero in my household. So, would I mind if you did more? Absolutely not.
Hope you were able to bear with me.

Since you guys asked... Halloween III has nothing to do with Michael Meyers or any of the other characters or events of the other movies, and it has no business being part of the franchise. I remember being super disappointed as a young teen when it hit home video and we rented it, only to discover it had absolutely nothing to do with the first two movies. But, I guess at the time they figured Michael was a crispy critter and definitely dead, and they needed to take things in a new direction if they wanted to keep making money off of the "Halloween" name. It's definitely campy, but it still creeped me out as a kid and imo it's worth a watch (once).

There's definitely multiple timelines in the series. Basically they had to hit the reset button every time JLC decided to come back to the series (there's also the Rob Zombie remake and its one sequel). Halloween 2018 was the most successful sequel and ignored every film except the first one (2018's two sequels both got a pretty mixed response though).
Marion, the woman who arrived to take Dr. Loomis out of Haddonfield, was in the first film. She was accompanying Loomis when they were going to transfer Michael to a different institution and discovered that he had broken himself and the other inmates out of Smith's Grove. Marion pops up a couple more times in the series played by the same actress, Nancy Stephens.

The injured little boy at the hospital bleeding in the beginning had a razor blade stuck to the roof of his mouth. Back in the day, there was an urban legend that people have found razor blades inside apples, given to kids who trick-or-treat. Us kids were warned no to eat fruit given out at Halloween. John Carpenter decided to play into the myth.
The little boy in that scene also played the little boy in "The Fog".
Thanks for this!

And that was Ben Tramer, the boy that Laurie wanted to ask to the dance in the first Halloween movie.

Damn, I completely forgot that this movie just kills some poor bastard in the most brutal way possible. Like, that accident alone would traumatize the town for years to come.
