The 'Burbs (1989) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Love ❀️ the burbs!

Backlog Andy M.

Another great reaction, guys! I have a movie suggestion for you. It's a firefighter movie called Backdraft (1991). It's a Ron Howard film that stars Kurt Russell, Billy Baldwin, Robert DeNiro, Donald Southerland, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Rebecca DeMornay. It takes place in the city of Chicago. Kurt and Billy play brothers who don't get along and have to work together as firefighters while they deal with an arsonist. It's a CRAZY GOOD movie... I promise you won't be disappointed! My husband is a career firefighter/EMT and I'm an EMT. There aren't many movies about what we do. This is my favorite of all time! Have a great weekend!!!

Queenie the dog is same dog that played Precious in β€œThe Silence of the Lambs”.

The scene where Ray and Art walk up to the door to meet the new neighbors, is a parody (homage?) to the climactic scene in "Once Upon a Time in the West", right down to the extreme close-ups of the faces and suspenseful soundtrack.

David Martin

I thought you already watched The Howling on the channel?

Alex

Whenever I hear Turner and Hooch now I think of Castle where he's telling Becket they make such a great team, like Starsky and Hutch, Tango & Cash, Turner and Hooch, and she says "Ya know you do remind me a little of Hooch." πŸ˜‚

Alex

I also love Tuna with Goldfish crackers. Always loved that combination. Sardines are actually very good for you. Lot of omega 3s. If you like mustard the sardines in mustard sauce is very yummy.

Alex

You are future boy! You have the power! πŸ˜‚ hope you enjoy it! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

LOL it’s almost Sunday! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Oh cool! I had no idea Corey Feldman was a ninja turtle! Tuna and crackers is delicious but I’ve never tried it with pretzels! I might pass on the sardines though haha -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Always up for more Tom Hanks! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Oh thank you for this! We completely forgot Joe Dante directed Gremlins haha The Howling is definitely on our list! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

You previously saw Rick Ducommun (Art) as one of the main townspeople in Groundhog Day. Joe Dante, besides directing Gremlins and Gremlins 2, also directed The Howling (1981) which would be an excellent werewolf movie to add to the horror list.

Hunter DeRensis

Agreed, that was one heck of a great, if not excessively drooly, movie.

Bitters

Totally forgot Corey Feldman was Donatello. Between TMNT, 'Burbs, Goonies, and Lost Boys, that guy was a low key big chunk of my childhood without ever realising it.

Tostito Buddy

You have to check out Turner and Hooch one of my fav Tom Hanks films.

Michelle Hoffman

For me when I hear "We got the pizza dude coming!" it just reminds me of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coz Corey Feldman played one of the turtles, and they also call the pizza guy the "pizza dude." So sardines do have bones but they are soft and you just eat them with the bones. That scene introduced me to one of my favorite things to eat: Tuna with pretzels.. I also have eaten sardines with pretzels but I like them with tuna a lot more. You guys definitely should want the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies (with Corey Feldman) after spooky season is over.

Alex

That’s so cool, an iconic neighborhood haha -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yes! Definitely a movie I’d love to revisit year after year 😊 ah Gremlins! I knew his name looked familiar. Thanks for the recommendations! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I can see why! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I’ve never heard of Joe vs the Volcano! It’s hard to pick a favorite Tom Hanks but I have a soft spot for Big! Haha the foreshadowing! We’ll have to check out the alternate ending 😊 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha I love that! It’s the best when you can watch something so many times and still catch something new 😊 LOL it’s a joke but this has us cracking up! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

You got it! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

please add Pure Luck to your comedy list if you have never seen it

James

I watched this movie like eighty times as a kid and never caught the fact that Art accidentally took some dog food off Carrie Fisher. Now it's my favorite joke from the movie. Also I just gotta know if "frageel-ay" was a little joke or if Daniel fell down and hit his head.

Tostito Buddy

Still my favorite Tom Hanks movie after all these years. Joe vs. the Volcano is a close second. My parents had them both taped off of a premium cable station in the 90's so I watched them on repeat as a kid. Carrie Fisher has a line right before they go and visit the Klopeks "Before someone falls off a roof or sets themselves on fire..." There's also an alternate version of the ending that you can watch on youtube, but the ending they went with is better IMO.

Brandon

There was a draft of the script where it was revealed his week off work was actually because he got fired and didn't tell anyone, which probably explains some of his behaviour!

Duncan

This was an absolute favorite growing up!

Bitters

This is one of those movies I just never get tired of, there are so many subtle little jokes that always crack me up like Ray sliding down the last steps after the explosion or when Hans freaks out when Bonnie touches his shoulder, the trash etc. Also, good eye, catching when Art eats dog food, seems like few people notice that. Joe Dante also directed the Gremlins movies, a couple others of his I recommend are Innerspace and Small Soldiers. Edit: speaking of good old fashioned 80s Tom Hanks: Money Pit and Joe Vs The Volcano πŸ‘

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

It was filmed on the Universal backlot, same street as Desperate Housewives and they filmed The Munsters, Leave It To Beaver, Murder She Wrote and a bunch of shows there.

Stephen King

I second the Witches of Eastwick. That movie is a hidden gem.

Ed R

The Witches of Eastwick is a good recommendation.

Ed R

I forgot how high strung Tom Hanks' character was in this movie.

Ed R

I love "License to Drive" too.

Mike the Ginger

I love License to Drive. I think they would love it too, as long as they go in knowing it's silly, light-weight, 80's cheese!

Future Boy

These will always be the best reactions for me. Rewatching stuff I've seen dozens of times over my whole life, with great reactors going in blind. What a way to start Halloween season! I'd love to see more early Tom Hanks comedies. "Big" (1988) would be a great place to continue!

Future Boy

If you thought Corey Feldman and Corey Haim were a good duo in Lost Boys, I recommend "License to Drive" 1988

Mr. Chumpus

I recommend another old-school good Tom Hanks comedy "Joe Versus the Volcano"

Jonathan Patrick

Yay !!! Not expected "The Burbs" for today :) One of my All Time favorite Horror Comedy Films ever !!! I recommend "The Witches of Eastwick" from 1987 for the next Comedy Horror !! Jack Nicholson, Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer and Susan Sarandon

Florian Meier

Me 3 days ago when the schedule came out "The Burbs is the perfect definition of Sunday rainy day viewing ,absolutely love the entire feel of the movie I will book it in to watch next Sunday and hope for rain to make it perfect πŸŒ¨πŸŒ§β˜”" Me today when seeing this upload "There is absolutely nothing that is going to stop me watching this tonight" 😐 'Will Power' the ability to control yourself noun. Britannica Dictionary definition of WILLPOWER. [noncount] : the ability to control yourself : strong determination that allows you to do something difficultβ˜ΉπŸ™πŸ˜“

Andrew

I don't know how I did it, but I think I somehow WILLED Saturday to get here on Wednesday! I could watch this right away, but this must be saved for later so there's a couple of hours of excitement first!
