F/VoH Ch 68: Looking at the Inn Room
Added 2024-09-22 15:54:52 +0000 UTCRosseline stared at the old woman for a moment, observing the woman's sincere and simple expression. The woman seemed friendly, but Rosseline knew she had to remain cautious. "A week," Rosseline replied after thinking for a moment. "If meals are included, when are they served? Is it just breakfast, or does it include dinner as well?"
"Oh, if meals are included, we provide breakfast," the old woman explained, her eyes lighting up with a hint of enthusiasm. "However, if Miss would like dinner as well, there will be an additional charge. Would you like that?"
Rosseline nodded slowly, as if carefully considering her answer. For Rosseline, the price was not an issue. The money being used belonged to Ryan, and Rosseline didn't mind spending a little more for comfort.
However, behind Rosseline's decision, there was something more important—safety. This inn was simple, far from the hustle and bustle, suitable for hiding from unwanted eyes. Even so, Rosseline had to ensure that no suspicions could arise.
After a few seconds of thought, Rosseline looked at the old woman with a slight smile. "Alright, add dinner as well."
The old woman nodded happily, appearing satisfied with Rosseline's decision. "Very well! You will love the room here; it’s quiet and comfortable. I will prepare it right away. If there’s anything you need, don’t hesitate to ask."
While waiting for the old woman to prepare the room key, Rosseline glanced around the room. The inn was indeed simple, but well-maintained.
The old wood that made up the walls exuded a distinctive aroma, and the worn furniture added a nostalgic feel. In one corner of the room, a small fireplace crackled, providing warmth against the chill of the night air.
Rosseline took a deep breath, feeling a bit of tranquility that she rarely experienced. Even so, in the corner of her heart, there remained an unshakeable tension. Rosseline knew that this place might seem safe, but their enemies were everywhere. Ryan and the others depended on Rosseline's decisions, and she could not afford to be careless.
"Here’s the key," the old woman's voice broke Rosseline's reverie. Rosseline then accepted the key from the woman's hand and smiled faintly.
"Thank you," Rosseline said before turning towards the stairs that would take her upstairs.
Rosseline finally reached the upper floor of the inn. A row of old wooden doors lined the narrow corridor, each with a rusty number affixed to it.
Rosseline observed the numbers while gripping the key in her hand. Among the four keys she had been given, the key numbered 25 seemed to fit the door in front of her.
With a bit of hesitation, Rosseline inserted the key into the keyhole and turned it slowly. The creaking of the hinges filled the silence as the old door opened, revealing a simple room behind it.
The interior of the room was far from luxurious. A small bed with a dull sheet occupied one corner, while a small window with tattered curtains hung on the other side, allowing the dim evening light to filter in.
A simple wooden table and chair were near the bed, but there were no other notable furnishings. There was no en-suite bathroom, just a wooden wall separating this room from the corridor.
Rosseline sighed, holding back her frustration. "Of course... no bathroom," Rosseline thought irritably, feeling a bit of hope fade away.
However, considering their situation—requesting simple lodging in a remote outskirts of town—this condition was actually understandable. Rosseline knew she didn’t have many options. Although her heart was filled with complaints, she forced herself to accept the reality.
After staring at the empty room for a moment, Rosseline decided to step back outside. She turned and closed the door, ensuring the room key was kept safe.
