He was very weird and obsessive about relationships, but I wouldn’t go so far as to term him a “Weinstein”. He was tormented on many levels, and the burden of those torments usually overrode notions of what most people would even consider a relationship. And those features were usually as much a burden to everyone around him, male or female, personal or professional. I’m not defending his terribly flawed nature, just reacting to the Weinstein comparison. Weinstein was wickedly self-involved and obsessively prurient. Hughes was too obsessively driven by technical achievements to have nearly so much time for those things, and the world inside his own head demanded far too much energy.

Being an old movie buff, it's hard for me to appreciate The Aviator. Hughes was basically another Weinstein(he ran RKO) and ruined the careers of many actresses who refused his advances. But I get it, he was an extraordinary inventor etc and The Aviator isn't about that ugly aspect of his life(which I imagine 90% of those who watch this film are unaware of)

William Sadler is one of my favorite actors because of the ridiculousness of "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey". He was great in "Die Hard 2" as well.

Hey guys, I had an idea for one of your movie reactions. Many people (myself included) have suggested "In the Line of Fire" (1993) starring Clint Eastwood and John Malkovich. If you don't already have it planned, I wanted to note the film has a storyline that regards President Kennedy's assassination on November 22, 1963. The 60th anniversary is this upcoming November 22, so that could be a possible timeframe you may be interested in posting the reaction. Just an idea, - Mike the Ginger

Bill and Ted is excellent (heh) but Bogus Journey is my favourite of the trilogy. It's so weird.

Great! really enjoying Fargo! the Aviator is a wonderful film (although, a little disturbing for its scenes of mental illness)

AVIATOR, finally, yes! Absolutely epic story and great performances all around. This was the movie Leo should have won the Oscar for in the first place.

Another great week!
The Fargo body count continues, and if you didn't already think Lester's a shit just you wait.
Saw Bill and Ted when it came out in theaters and usually watch it again every coupleofyears - Simple, goofy fun

Excellent! **Makes air guitar riff**. You should also watch the sequel "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey", which is actually even better.
"The Aviator" is also very good. Howard Hughes is one of the more fascinating (and yes tragic) characters in American history. Another good movie about him (although as a peripheral character) is "Melvin and Howard".

I haven't seen The Aviator since it was in theaters, but I remember it feeling like Scorsese was just enjoying himself immensely with that one. Will be interesting to revisit.
Bill and Ted's I've seen at least a dozen times, so I'm always curious how it hits when someone doesn't already know all the beats.

The Aviator is an interesting movie. It relates the idea and construction and testing of the Spruce Goose airplane.
I saw it back in the early 80s when it was on display in Long Beach CA, next to the Queen Mary oceanliner.
It eventually was moved to a museum in Oregon.
Hughes was brilliant but sadly mentally ill.
