Said it before, but I'd give The Pianist a watch. Great Adrian Brody performance, although even more depressing than this film.

Journey to the Line is one of my favourite Hans Zimmer scores. So epic it has been used in several other movie trailers.

The search feature is not working, I tested it on this movie and it never came up?! I don't see any spot I can contact Patreon about this, can you?

The actress who plays the soldier's wife is Miranda Otto; she played Eowyn in LOTR

Its very personal, intimate, and contemplative. It’s most effectively viewed when almost in a “Zen state”, and that’s counterintuitive for a “war movie”. In fact, it’s counterintuitive for just about any movie. But if the viewer is willing to enter that kind of space, it’s richly rewarding. It’s the definition of “not for everybody”. But that’s okay, and in no way derogatory toward those who don’t get into it.

This film has a stacked cast and when you consider what the film is about, it's understandable. It feels like a film that really examines the topic of life and death as it pertains to war. Quite an amazing film!

Oh I was looking forward to this reaction so bad! I was so intrigued wondering what you guys would think of it because it's not everyone cup of tea but it is one of my most favorite films. Definitely in my top 10. So glad to see that you enjoyed it. I'm not at all surprised by how much you just GOT the film. It's a work of art, like someone above said, you could hang it on the wall and stare at it forever. All the love! ❤️🥰

I highly recommend Malick's debut film, Badlands. It's loosely based on a true crime case so Sam will probably dig it especially.

When I saw this in the theater during its opening weekend, the audience absolutely hated it to the point that there was loud booing at the end. It took me a second watch on home video to really appreciate it due to the overwhelmingly negative atmosphere at the theater.

I saw this in theaters and was a little underwhelmed back in the day.
Would love to give it another try with this channel. I know it’s unique and I’m a lot older now, so maybe it will be different.

Terrence Malick directed two movies in the 70s, Badlands and Days of Heaven. They were really admired and well respected, but then he didn't direct another movie for 20 years. He became a myth. A kind of recluse. So when he announced he would direct The Thin Red Line, every actor in Hollywood wanted to work with him. Everyone.
However the way he edits is to really experiment. Pretend there is no script and just find the movie in the footage. The famous story is that Adrien Brody was the lead character in the script but he has almost no dialogue in the finished movie. It's also why George Clooney has just one scene and plenty of other famous actors were just cut entirely from the film like Gary Oldman and Billy Bob Thornton.

This movie certainly isn't for everyone, but I've always loved it. You could have it on a loop on mute and it would be like hanging art in your house. Every frame is absolutely gorgeous!
