Now you guys just need to see Bullitt (1968) and listen to the sound of that engine from Steve McQueen's 1968 Ford Mustang GT.

Don't panic. Just read slowly and go at your own pace.

Grand Prix is an excellent film with a great cast. I think it was the first major production about racing. It’s more than just a racing story, and it’s a good historical counterpoint to today’s F1 popularity. In those days drivers had a shockingly short life expectancy, and thankfully that’s been turned around. And as another plus, I haven’t seen anyone else react to the film.

David Wilkins

Bruce McLaren also died while testing his car only a few years later in 1970. He was 32. Lorenzo Bandini the main Ferrari rival in the race died during the 1967 Monacco Grand Prix at age 31. There's a very good racing melodrama made in 1966 called Grand Prix from director John Frankenheimer. It stars James Garner among many and features 32 actual drivers in cameo roles (including McLaren). Of those, 10 died in car accidents within the next ten years. Racing cars as always been dangerous, but it was especially dangerous in those days. The film Grand Prix is the first to have what would be to our eyes modern racing and driving sequence without flimsy rear-projection. Scenes where the cameras were put on the hoods of the cars and such. It's really technically impressive.

Very cool!

Haha unfortunately we’ve both seen it but definitely Oscar worthy

The common reaction to the ending is that people are upset. I noticed these reactions are from people who seem to be in their 20's and 30's. That's a normal reaction for people when they are experiencing death of people they love early in their lives. That ending is actually beautiful to me because it is honest to what I've learned about the death of loved ones. It never gets easy and you never can control it. But, as I get older, I take comfort in everything I can control and holding onto their memory. Shelby does this when he turns on the ignition and stops crying when he hears the beautiful clean, powerful, hum of the engine in the car that he built, which reminds him of what he does control as he drives off the way that Ken Miles would have wanted him to drive for the rest of his life.

Matt Damon!

I just noticed that Coppola's "Tucker" (1988) is on Amazon Prime.

I'd be really interested to see you guys react to some of the F1 Drive to Survive shows. Would be c\ool hearing you learning about it (more than you already know).

Love this Reaction !!! Same as you're "Cop Land" Reaction !! James Mangold is a great Director !!! I recommend "Girl Interrupted" from 1999 with Winona Ryder, Whoopi Goldberg and Angelina Jolie who won an Oscar for her Role ... for more Films like this i strongly Recommend Steve MqQueens "Le Mans" from 1971 and "Bullitt" from 1968 with a long Car Chase Scene .... I love also "Rush" from 2013

I didn’t know that Mollie Miles was also a race car driver till I looked her up after watching this movie when it came out. I wish they had showed that a little bit now.

Great reaction, guys. My Grampa was actually good friends with Lee Iacocca (Jon Bernthal) and he is undoubtedly the coolest man I've ever met. As a kid, I heard his version of this story, and many others (Iacocca's account of the trip to Maranello to buy Ferrari was even more entertaining than its depiction in the film). When I heard they were making this movie, I was curious how it would jibe with what I'd been told--some of it did, some of it didn't, but it's a helluva film that more than stands on its own. I've seen it 5 times and it always makes me miss all those guys from that generation.

In real life, Iacocca had seniority over Beebe and argued directly with Ford. Iacocca was alive when this movie was made and apparently had no problem with his role being altered for dramatic purposes. The rivalry between Iacocca and Ford was so grand that it probably would have needed three movies to explain. Ford vs. Ferrari was only a few years in the entire rivalry between Iacocca and Ford that lasted from the 1960's through the 1980's. I would rank Iacocca with Rickover as two of the greatest engineers who ever lived. Iacocca was special because he was the only person I can think of who was able to organize entire corporations of people who did not understand engineering to serve the purpose of the engineering designs in two of the largest companies in the history of the United States.

the 2013 movie Rush is great.

Michael Kang-Beats

Everyone's Dad's favorite film. But seriously, this one is great. I think it's the last movie I saw in a theater before the 'vid made us stay home as much as possible.

Brandon

Oscar worthy indeed! I second this nomination...

Code Monkey

Ryan Gosling. Drive. Trust me.

Odd Thomas

Along the racing theme, I'd recommend the Oscar worthy Talladega Nights

Mike Adams

Other classic movies with engineering themes that I'd recommend are Coppola's "Tucker" (1988) and Kaufman's "The Right Stuff" (1983).
