Prisoners (2013) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

Love the edit, hah!

Trepanation21

Definitely check out Basic (2003) with John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson. Another great twisty movie 🍿

ShadowVessel π

wild movie. it makes you want to jump through the screen. more so than any other.

Slayback

It was filmed in Georgia I think. But the story takes place in PA.

Ed R

Maybe I'm confused, but I thought Alex wasn't involved. She didn't need him to abduct children, she'd been doing it for decades. EDIT: Yeah, I just got to the relevant part, she says Alex never touched the kids.

John W Foster

Can someone clarify so I'm sure I understand this correctly? Alex abducted the girls and delivered them to his "aunt" knowing they were to be murdered, correct? So while Alex was definitely originally a victim himself, he is complicit in this crime. Also, a suggestion for a similar movie: Hell or High Water.

Jen Barnes

Gone Baby Gone is a great movie and is similar to this

f hf

"More movies like this" - if you haven't seen it, Mystic River (2003) a Clint Eastwood mystery that is very much like this, starring Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne.

Mike LL

The 1984 Dune is hot garbage. Villeneuve's version is a thousand times better.

Odd Thomas

I wasn’t a fan of the first Dune as a teen. Is the remake better?

Korny

If you want more mystery/thriller stuff I highly recommend Shutter Island

Odd Thomas

Oh, this movie is so good. Jake Gyllenhaal is always good, but Hugh Jackman brings his motherfucking A-game on this one. And Villenueve is one of the best directors out there right now. Good shit.

Steve Mercier

I love both Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, and for me Dune is even better (this is not meant as a jab at you, Odd Thomas). I've been waiting since I was 12 years old and read the book (and watched the David Lynch version...*cough* *cough*) for someone to come along and do this story justice. Yes. 100% watch Dune. One of the best adaptations of anything I've ever seen (and Part 2 looks even better).

Steve Mercier

I love Conspiracy Theory. Would be great for a reaction.

Robert Boyd

Second for Both

Florian Meier

100% watch Dune. It's just as good as Arrival and Blade Runner 2049

Odd Thomas

Villenueve is absolutely a master. The only film of his that I haven't loved was Dune Part I, but that also has a lot to do with the source material. It's tough to adapt that book into films, even by splitting it up into two parts. His ultimate masterpiece for me, however, is Incendies. It's fucked up but absolutely brilliant and features one of the biggest twists ever!

Shehab Dawoud

Probably my least favourite Villeneuve film. Left a bad taste in my mouth as I recall, but I'll give it another go. edit: It is a GREAT movie, but it's so dark that my brain had wiped most of it from my memory!

Odd Thomas

290 was so gooood!!

Trepanation21

AUGH. This movie, man. When I saw this posted, I knew I had to watch the full thing (again) alongside! Absolutely incredible movie, and everyone gives a powerful performance, but Hugh Jackman... Devastating. His performance specifically (obviously complimented by the story and Jake Gyllenhaal's) just makes you feel it in. your. bones. I keep deleting sentences, trying to put it into words! Jackman is just really powerful in this. Such terrifying, dark places this story goes to. So glad you two were as riveted as I/we were, and absolutely recommend seeing it again. It does *not* lose its edge. A very difficult story, but so many things we enjoy about cinema! Thank you for sharing! PS: At the end of this reaction, Sam, you said "more like this!" So, I don't know if either of you are familiar, but the film "Wind River" (2017 - directed by Taylor Sheridan) is exceptional, and *extremely* worth checking out.

Trepanation21

Whatever is going on in your life I hope it gets fixed, hurt people hurt people, if there ever was a reason to cancel/block someone it'll be you, I hope you work on your life and finally find happiness

dieselbeast

Judging by this comment ,your daughter would have a better life and chance of success with the kidnappers

Duncan

Somebody kidnappes my daughter, all bets are off, everybody and anybody that stands in my way it's game over, come hell or high water I will get my Vengeance period!

dieselbeast

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this but the aunt said she kept them alive too long cause she missed Alex. So Hugh Jackman grabbing him kept them alive for the detective to get there. So questionable whether the detective would've got there on his own. Great reaction, thanks guys!

Daniel Gurney

Great movie. I seen it a long time ago but completely forgot what happened, so it was heart pounding to watch it again. Another movie like this is called The Spanish Prisoner with Steve Martin, but you would probably have to do a reaction to it and not put it on a poll, because very few people have seen it.

Robert Boyd

🤣🤣.. Dude, I can't believe it I ate a whole pizza and literally passed out right after Lawler fight.. about to watch the main card now though.. thank god it's Sunday.. hope you had a good time watch'n 290..

PastaDon

Two Mel Gibson movies I think you guys would enjoy..Ransom directed by Ron Howard and Conspiracy Theory.

Brian Anthony

Never Watched it Before ... Great Film ... I recommend another great Jake Gyllenhall "Donnie Darko" from 2001

Florian Meier

Hey Reed, just watch it. It is a film making masterclass.! Daniel & Sam's reaction makes it all the better.

Baldielox

Seeing Denis Vilenueve (I know i botched spelling) directed it does have me intrigued.

Reed James

This movie is so real in so many ways, except for the fact they are all wearing like full winter gear. I live where this was filmed. It's mostly like 65 degrees in Winter lol. A couple of things I think you missed: They showed us that the Aunt grabbed his tools and moved his truck, that's why the cops didn't find it. She also mentioned earlier in the film that while they used to be super religious, after their son died of cancer, they "saw things differently". Thats when her and her husband began killing kids as revenge for God taking theirs.

aarswft

Sam, you and Daniel have nothing to be justifying or apologizing for. As you said before... It's a freakin' movie.!! I don't think someone making observations during a rough scene (yeah, even a torture scene) should be labled disturbing. It's fiction.! It didn't really happen.!! After they finished with the scene, Paul Dano probably sat down with Hugh Jackman and complained about there not being any pastrami on the catering cart. Daniel had a reaction to something that was meant to make the viewer uncomfortable. Everyone has a different way of releasing those feelings. I think Jeffery is reading waaay too much into how someone else reacts to a fictional film, meant to entertain... Lighten up, Jeffery.

Baldielox

@Michael, Daniel’s response was directed to Jeffrey in regards to calling his reaction disturbing and gross. Sorry for the confusion. -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Great movie and reaction!! Thanks for doing this one 🙂

Ed Garland

Thanks for the reaction. This is a incredible film that takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. I'm so glad that you guys enjoyed it:)

Mark M

I said I didn't watch the reaction. On #4, I don't think the FBI normally gives out immunity to a mob boss for snitching on one of his capos.

Michael Kang-Beats

I think it’s a masterpiece! I hope you’re able to check it out! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yes, this is my favorite Denis Villeneuve movie, and by a lot. I agree with Sam, it is a masterpiece. I think that Sam caught more of the plot than she thought she did, because she was able to speculate that Alex Jones might in fact be the missing little Barry pretty early in the movie, and she was right about that. I also liked that when Dover first took Franklin to see the captured Alex, Daniel said something to effect that he thought Alex was a prisoner at this time and the movie is called Prisoners. By that time Alex was indeed at least the third prisoner presented in the movie, behind the dead kidnapper who had been a prisoner of the priest, and little Barry. But I guess also Anna and Joy, but we didn't know they were alive at that point. So many prisoners.

Mike LL

1) It is a fictional movie 2) In the context of this fictional movie, torture did work. It’s wasn’t in an attempt to make him admit to anything, it was in an attempt for further information/clues, which was eventually revealed and led to the Dad building enough clues to solve the case before anyone else. 3) We have literally watched multiple movies for the channel were the plot is centered around a person faking a disability, physical or mental, only to be revealed in the end to be the stories original villain. 4) You’ve commented on sopranos reactions justifying Tony’s murder of Christopher. Murder was not necessary, Tony easily could have snitched on Christopher and sent him to jail while securing immunity 5) I say in the outro that the dad and Loki’s path was fairly separate and that Loki likely would have been able to solve the case arguably faster if the dad would have stayed out of the way of the police investigation, but that’s not the point of the movie, the point is to show the extremes people will take when they feel hopeless and lost with no alternatives trying to save children.

TBR Schmitt

I'm glad I didn't watch. And you're right; the irony of torture is that it makes people say whatever they think will make you stop. All it achieves, maybe, is to make the torturer feel "better." But honestly, if torturing makes you feel good you have no business having any authority at all.

Michael Kang-Beats

I can't watch this one. I have too much PTSD from watching reactors cheering on the torture.

Michael Kang-Beats

Well you're in for a real treat , my friend. Great film with a stacked cast.!!

Baldielox

Wow. This flick is brutal. Like motherfucking brutal in the capital sense of the word. I saw this once. I really liked it but don't know if I could do it again.

Philip Davetas

How absolutely dare you post a reaction during UFC 290 ,this is about as unacceptable as it gets Having said that, thank you and I am very much looking forward to viewing this tomorrow

Duncan

I have never heard of this movie.
