Steven Spielberg Film Poll!

Help pick the Spielberg movie we will react to!

We LOVED the feedback we got from last month's director poll! The Coen Brothers took the win, so we'll be watching one of their films in July and we'll start with Spielberg for August. We've noted where the votes fell and all the comments you've left so we can't wait to explore more directors!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

NOTE: Sam has seen Hook, so this would only be my first time reaction. I have seen Munich, so this would only be Sam's first time reaction.

*We haven't seen these films unless noted above. If you disagree with the genre, you'll have to take it up with Google ;)

Comments

I am crossing all my fingers that TBR will react to Empire of the Sun and Munich someday, they are two of Spielberg's best, imo.

Patrick Clemens

That was a great film! Unfortunately this is a poll, so it's a popularity contest. Not a talent competition. The best one often ends up losing to more well known and popular titles.

Jango Jenkins

Worth watching just for that performance - you feel like you're looking back through time at the real man.

Neal Romanek

The Color Purple is dynamite.

Neal Romanek

Empire Of The Sun is the right answer.

Neal Romanek

please do not let War Horse lose to Tintin.

YoureMrLebowski

RRR

Vlasios Vougiouklis

I agree.

Stephanie

War Horse is quickly losing the race. I love that story, not just the film but the stageshow too.

Guston Zimasheen

shame Duel didn't make the list, it was sort of Spielberg's dry run for Jaws.

Birdie Num Num

“Democracy tends towards mediocrity” - de Tocqueville

Catherine LW

I didn't know Spielberg even directed Hook 😅

Nismo

Super enthusiastic third. Don't give us the high hat.

Dan McComb

i liked the movie, but there's over 20 reactions to RPO on youtube.

YoureMrLebowski

i really would like to know the average age for the votes on each movie

YoureMrLebowski

A shame War Horse is dead last, and likely to stay there, because it's among my favorite 21st century Spielberg jawns.

Paul Cox

Enthusiastically seconded!

VivendoBem

Miller's Crossing (1990) please and thank you zero reactions available to the viewing public. be a hero. 🙂

YoureMrLebowski

Spoiling us one week with early Sopranos reactions on Saturday and not doing it the next week is crueeeel. Especially towards the end of the season

Stan the Man

Bangarang!

Jonathon Jankoski

My favorite sci-fi show. And one of my favorite TV shows all time. Between Earth, Mars and the Belt, I sided with the Belters.

Athos Count de la Fère

I'm sorry, I know this isn't the place for it, but I hope you two react to The Expanse whether publically or just in Patreon at some point. There's no way you two won't absolutely love it. It's got seriously amazing characters, an incredible story, and everything in between. Some have called it Game of Thrones In Space for those reasons, and they're not wrong... except this show is insanely good through to the end.

JayWantsACat

hook? lmfao

Mitchell

Lincoln depicts a pivotal moment in American history and Day Lewis is phenomenal in it. I would also suggest Spielberg’s earlier TV film “Duel.”

TheTerryGene

@Stan the Man, I didn't even know it WAS Spielberg, which says a lot.

Armchair Wizard

We're not suggesting democracy is bad, we're hoping that Democracy goes our way lol.

Armchair Wizard

Respectfully, Hook is among his weakest imho. It's a decent effort but definitely aimed at the younger crowd

ron clint

Huh. For Jurassic Park that's a shame. Wotw I guess I don't really care too much.

Heaby

I think they've seen those off channel

Odd Thomas

There are some great moments in Hook, but mostly in the third act. I always found it really slow, particularly as a kid.

Odd Thomas

it's called democracy...

24fps_

Really hoping Hook wins out!

David Crabtree

I really agree. I like Hook, but usually prefer both of them be blind, but i'd rather Hook Win over my actual favorite choice (Lincoln) just so RP1 doesn't win. So if its a tie, I'll vote Hook as a tiebreaker.

Armchair Wizard

Yeah... I loved the book, but man, I don't think anyone who worked on that film understood the subtext. Actually, I don't believe they realized there was any subtext.

Lük

Well, to each his own! What I respect most about Spielberg is his versatility. The same guy directed "Schindler's List" and "1941?" Huh?

William 1611

I agree. I'm not trying to bad mouth other people's taste, but come on. There are so many good films on this list its kind of sad that one is winning.

Armchair Wizard

It’s sad. I said elsewhere it’s the only Steven Spielberg movie where I couldn’t feel him behind the camera. I thought maybe due to all the CGI but Tin Tin is CGI and that feels like a Spielberg film thru and thru. Tin Tin is fantastic.

Stan the Man

Even a bad Spielberg film, if there is such a thing, is still worth watching. I don’t think there’s any SS film I’d call bad. Maybe RP1. But there are def mediocre films. Always and the Terminal big examples. But even something like 1941 or Hook I’ll go to bat for.

Stan the Man

A.I needs to win. Honestly, I’d take any of these over RP1. I’m shocked to see it doing so well. But I guess it’s more recent? I dunno. A.I got a bum rap when it was released but it’s just..I really hope it can ekk out a win

Stan the Man

Tin Tin is super underrated. I love it. But A.I. Is a wondering movie. I wouldn’t say it’s exciting but i wouldn’t describe it as not exciting either. RP1 is Spielberg’s worst film. I don’t feel his presence at all.

Stan the Man

Really? RP1? Man…

Stan the Man

Ready Player One is winning? First of all, all these films need to be watched. It’s sad to see Tin Tin so low. But please, don’t let RP1 win. And I love Hook with all my heart but A.I, Munich, Lincoln, Empire of the Sun…they are all masterpieces.

Stan the Man

a near perfect film

Elisa Pfau

To each their own, but I felt the movie was way more about corporate/franchise worship and it felt very flat and awkward. After that I had no interest in reading the book even if it is different.

Brandon

It is one of the rare instances of a movie being better than the book. That tells you how bad the book is. They could change the name of the book to "Boy that stalks girl with 80's pop culture references." It is one of the worst books that I have ever read.

Shawn Brink

Yeah, I have to agree. I'm guessing it was a cool film if you hadn't read the book. It's just too different, so I was disappointed when I watched it.

TGrimace

Lincoln is by far the best film Spielberg ever made!

Lamar Savage

Ready Player One being in first place kind of makes my heart hurt.

Brandon

Agreed. Wonderful film and often overlooked.

Domino

Empire of the Sun gets my vote. My favorite movie of all time.

Will Zamora

I haven’t seen schindlers heard it’s good

One Tusk

I vote for Schindler’s List

Elisa Pfau

Duel Amistad Schindler's List

Samolina Pilchard

Young Christian Bale's performance in this is one of the top child actor performances I've seen!

Eric Lee

Jurassic Park! How have you not watched this yet??!! I would also recommend War of the Worlds. I wouldn't say it's a great movie but it's good.

Heaby

HAHAHA what are you doing here, Google?! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

AI won't win but you should watch it anyway.

Shaun2342!

Spielberg is a great director, but he's made his share of mediocrities, too: people should remember that both Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron struck out more often than they hit homers. Anyway, on this list, I'm voting for "Munich," which everyone should see. ("Lincoln" is wonderful, but it'll have to wait.) I'm old enough to remember the monstrous atrocities that marred the Munich Olympics, and this film is a brilliant presentation of those awful days. Please, guys: "Munich!"

William 1611

Munich is the most underrated film in Spielberg's entire catalogue. It has some compelling performances worth paying attention to which, despite being a Best Picture nominee-very few did. Ie: Lynn Cohen's portrayal of Golda Meir screams Oscar!

Brandon Royce

The Color Purple 😊

Jonathan Patrick

It's definitely the grimmest film in Spielberg's later cannon.

Paul Cox

Munich is really unique and good, in many ways my fav Spielberg. Great casting and cinematography.

Ema

Ah, that explains it. Thanks buddy.

David Lengyel

I had the same issue in the android app, but it works right in a web browser. Patreon is drunk today.

Paul Cox

RPO will win (and it's great) but AI is such a forgotten classic, I hope you watch it anyways

Odd Thomas

Empire Of The Sun is such a great movie. This and War Horse should have more votes.

Stephanie

Kiss both sides of my ass, Google.

Erwin Quiachon

Agreed. It really felt like I saw the actual Lincoln onscreen.

Athos Count de la Fère

I would be most excited about Tintin. I think it is the best movie out of these. A.I. kinda is not so exciting. Ready Player One is exciting, but there is a little too much going on in that movie. It will probably win the poll.

Mike LL

Poll says Choose all that apply but the options are single vote only. I'm voting for RPO but I'd love to see Munich as well.

David Lengyel

Hook

Duncan

I vote Lincoln. Daniel Day Lewis acting is fantastic. It's too bad he has retired from acting. 😞

Athos Count de la Fère

I agree with this. It would be cool to knock out a Spielberg and a Daniel Day Lewis watch in one go.

Paul Cox

I'm loving these polls today!!! :)

Will D

I recommend Spielbergs "Sugarland Express" from 1974 with Goldie Hawn !!! I love this Film

Florian Meier

Another Daniel Day Lewis Oscar performance in Lincoln. It's also an overlooked, important, story about how tough it was for Lincoln to pull everything together.

Erwin Quiachon

Munich and Lincoln are underrated more people need to see those films
