The Sopranos Season 6 Episode 18 'Kennedy and Heidi' Full TV Reaction!!

The Sopranos Season 6 Episode 18 'Kennedy and Heidi' Full TV Reaction!!

Comments

I think Tony killing Chris is even worse than ordering Adriana taken out. At the end of the day, he only cares about himself

Jeremy Garner

Slowly catching up on episodes. I'm up to this season episode 8. But I gotta say: The Wire!

Mike LL

This is an excellent point, Tommy Smith. Even if it was a solid strategic decision from a certain point of view, Tony is all poorly controlled impulses at this point.

Marcus Cato

The song that plays when he arrives in Vegas is the same one played in True Detective, when Cohle is stealing Coke from the Evidence Room.

David Chase has said in the book “Sopranos Sessions”(terrific book), that Tony does in fact “get it”. What does he get? Well the big clue is what happens with the sun. That flicker. There are numerous allusions to Tony’s coma trip throughout this episode. So when Tony is saying “I get it”, he’s referring to what his coma trip was about. That the universe was trying to tell him something. Tony has an honest to goodness revelation. Now this is touched on in the next episode so I can’t talk about it yet but it’s safe to say that whatever happened, whatever he experienced, he gets in the moment but not all of it stays with him.

Stan the Man

ok but him descending into evil doesn't discount or contradict him having a meaningful revelation if the revelation is him accepting his own evil. him not changing for the better and having a meaningful revelation can still coexist together. your associating a revelation with something that has to be positive which in this case it isn't. doesn't mean it's any less significant. it's the completion of his character arc from endearing criminal to decadently depraved sociopath.

Mitchell

I personally don't see much evidence to support him snitching; the behaviors you mention (eyes darting around, fidgeting, keeps changing the song) seem to just be because he's high on cocaine. As for the hat thing, I think that was probably more of a symbolic thing from the writers' perspective than a plot thing.

I think Tony was right to fear that Christopher would eventually flip on him, and all the turbulence, loss and chaos in Christopher’s life made it more likely as time passed. (Or, that he could eventually become part of a competing power-play.) The really grinding part of the whole story is the nature of the life they’ve chosen. It’s more or less a self-fulfilling cycle of doom, especially in the era post-1980’s when the feds really nailed down a process for breaking them. It’s hard to imagine that any one of them could really trust the others, and that’s one hell of a corrosive way to live. Only someone outside of the organization could be trusted completely, but even then, a whole other half of their lives would have to be kept shrouded in secrecy. To me it just sounds like misery. But man, what a story it makes for the rest of us to view vicariously.

Tommy, THANK YOU. I've been reading theories about the lights for years and it drives me up a wall. The idea of Tony having any real revelation is actually pretty laughable. It flies in the face of what we've seen and what we're GOING to see in these last 3 episodes to come. In these last episodes 9 especially, all we've seen him do is become more comfortable with being an asshole. He's alienating himself from anyone he's ever been close to with some extremely selfish behavior. Him and Hesh had mutual respect for years. Then in one episode it's gone - and that's just one of example of a dozen. I'd say a lot more, but they haven't posted a reaction for the finale yet. Let's just say my take on the ending is probably different from most. Lastly, Tony was high AF on peyote. Everyone has crazy "revelations" when they're on peyote.

Brandon

Yeah due to the ambiguity theories abound. I heard one person's take, "He's gets it. He can do whatever he wants and not worry about the consequences. He killed his nephew, made his niece fatherless. He's cheating on Carm again. And he's striking gold, winning big. There are no more limits on his selfishness anymore. He's done trying (or at least pretending to try) to be a good person." Another that seems more insightful was, "its always been my opinion that he did not have any epiphany, just a drug induced absurd thought after hours of roaming around high on psyedelic drugs. Him not, "getting it," is where we as the audience should understand that Tony will not change. We're a few episodes out from the finale and his actions throughout this episode cement the fact that Tony will remain amoral and selfish the rest of his life. He murdered his protege, cheated on his wife, went to Las Vegas instead of comforting his family."

James Boyd

The cold, dead, callous look in Tony's eyes when he is snuffing out Chrissie is one of the darkest, if not the darkest, moment(s) in the series.

1920sBuffaloGuy

I love the episode titles as well.

Korny

The titles to all of the episodes on this series are usually so clever, but along with "Longterm Parking" "Kennedy And Heidi" might be the most darkly funny. Those girls didn't get much screen time, but I'll always remember their names. Also, what must Tony’s car insurance premiums be at this point. Madon’!

Robert Livingood

Say what? Is this true? Can you take a screen shot of this image? The party as it exists in the current edit is referring to the cook out he had last episode. That’s what I thought. But as someone who lives somewhere where HBO Max isn’t available I’d love to see this image. Where did you find out the contest for the image too? Edit: Never mind I’ve seen the pictures. Your context is just someone’s guess about what happens but it’s still interesting. It’s weird that every other season of the sopranos has script available to read. Every season but 6!

Stan the Man

As others have pointed out, Tony says “I get it”. And what does he get? He gets what the beacon and the coma dream was all about. He had a revelation of some kind. There’s multiple times the beacon from the coma trip turns up in this episode. One is right when Tony is choking Christopher. We see headlights passing by but it’s done to mimic the sweeping motion of the beacon. The other is when Tony looks at the light in the bathroom. You’ll notice the devil imagery and the fact that Tony literally visits “Sin City” after killing his nephew. Finally, the sun. It flickers just like the beacon. This all means something. It’s all leading somewhere. As Daniel pointed out this episode was all about Tony living Chris’s life. Screwing his girl, doing drugs.

Stan the Man

Chris started off driving Tony while wearing a cap (ep 1) and died the same way. never had an arc.

Tommy Smith

That's sort of what I'm saying. No matter what Tony "gets" he won't change hence its a useless realization.

Tommy Smith

it's not fake at all. it's the most real tony gets. not changing for the better is the point. that's what he "gets." he's accepting it.

Mitchell

Tony said "I get it" at the end. In all likelihood, this was just another one of Tony's fake realizations that doesn't mean anything (like the many he gets from therapy). No matter what Tony "gets" or realizes he won't change for the better.

Tommy Smith

Fun fact: the thumbnail on HBOmax for this episode is not in the final cut. Apparently there was supposed to be a scene where Tony and Carmela go to Chris's house but he and Kelli are entertaining non-connected guests and Chris more or less tells them to get lost. He and Kelli would then argue about it. It's why Tony asks Chris about the party in the car drive. Would have made for an interesting add.

Sol95

Season 6B really emphasizes Tony's descent into moral depravity. Season 1 Tony: Hates degenerate gamblers. Season 6B Tony: Turns into a degenerate gambler. Season 1 Tony: "What about chemical companies dumping all that shit into the water, making deformed babies pop up all over the place?" Season 6B Tony: Dumps asbestos into the wetlands...which is also a duck's natural habitat. There are more examples, but these ones immediately come to mind watching the last few episodes.

JG

yeah, there was zero positive intent from Tony in killing Chris.

Tommy Smith

Christopher was permanently on the outside once he went to rehab and proved that he could no longer be trusted in Tonys eyes. He was no longer dependable and Tony essentially replaced him with Bobby. Bobby never took his work for granted and didn’t expect to be handed anything. I don’t think he suffered much for beating up Tony; if anything he stuck up for Janice which none of the other men in her life ever did. In the end, Christopher dying was inevitable.

Christopher Runyon

While I can see both sides it's sort of a non issue because that's not why Tony killed him. Tony killed chris because he was a drag on him and their relationship had fallen apart.

Tommy Smith

It's also just the way he went out. At the hands of the person who was once a father to him.

Tommy Smith

Chris was a terrible person but Tony didn't kill him with any good in mind. Tony killed chris because he was a drag on his life. They were no longer close and Tony didn't see any use for him. Chris was an awful person too but he didn't deserve to get suffocated by the person he looked up to as a father for his whole life. Definitely the most evil thing Tony ever did imo.

Tommy Smith

It's a testament to the show's writing that we still feel bad for Christopher after all he's done.

Sol95

I find it interesting that you two think so poorly of Tony for killing Christopher when just last episode he murdered an innocent man because he was having a drunken temper tantrum. Tony was absolutely correct in saying that he had to fear Christopher flipping. Not only that, Christopher always had Tony's protection which has prevented him from getting clipped a couple times. In my opinion, Tony did what he likely would have had to do eventually. I think it's funny Paulie getting mad that hardly anyone came to his mom's service. He doesn't once think that maybe people don't want to come because he treats anyone with less power than him like garbage and he's underhanded even within the organization.

Jeffrey Miller

Actually at the end Tony is saying "I GET IT!" I'm not sure what revelation he think he just had, but apparently he's happy about it. And I think a lot of people thought he said, "I did it!". If that ambiguity was intentional from the writers, that is incredibly impressive. Thx again for all you do!

Ellie Miller

Chase explained it..the moment Tony looked at the sun and said 'I get it" Chase said it was him realizing the destructive influence Chris had on his life, in particular his "run of luck".

Joe Lazarus

Christopher was clearly snitching in my opinion, he talked it about it at the end of the previous episode before killing the Law and Order writer, then wears a clever hat to a meet with Phil to talk business? Its like the time Jack Masserone wore one with a wire in it to meet with Tony to me. The whole time during the meet Christopher cannot look anyone in the face and keeps looking around like someone's listening. They get in the car and he keeps playing with the radio turning it up.

UNC

No silver linings in any episode of the Sopranos.. LOL 😄

Robert Smith

I may be in the minority but like Fredo in The Godfather Part II, Chris had to go. Liabilities and potential traitors cannot be part of these things, especially when they’re close to the top. The thing about the branch through the baby seat is also legit, even though it wasn’t Tony’s main reason. It’s tough, but… Btw, at the end, he’s not saying “I did it”. He’s saying “I get it”. What he “gets” is up for interpretation. It's a good idea to watch things with subtitles on, as some things can escape you, due to bad audio or whatever it may be.

Shehab Dawoud

It’s interesting how they play this. When he kills Christopher he sees the baby seat in the back. But then later you just realize it was another excuse that Tony used justify killing Chris and to save himself from any trouble Chris might cause. Man the layers in this character. Tony’s only goal is self preservation and this is the best example.

Night King01

The good thing is I’ll watch the Sopranos reaction multiple time.

Korny

It's a tough call! -Sam
