The Sopranos Season 6 Episode 9 'The Ride' Full TV Reaction!!

Yeah, I didn't know about the dolphin work, but he was an interesting cat: writing songs that weren't hits for himself but were for others while helping/influencing TONS of big names, but always missing on out on his own major commercial success. Must have been soul crushing--I might've chucked it all in to go work with dolphins, too.

Robert Livingood

Fred Neil had an interesting career working with dolphins. Something I didn't know until looking into the music of the episode.

Marcus Cato

There was a 10 month gap between the two as well. Part One ended in June 2006 and Part Two started in April 2007.

David Murray

“I’ve never seen such an awkward interaction between these two” he says while watching the same episode those same characters bond over the murder of a woman Christopher loved lol. The relationship between Chris & Tony is strained. The only thing they can bond over is death and violence. This episode is all about boredom & what we do to make it between moments of life. Chris is having a child, he’s getting married, but do Tony & Chris bond over that? Nope. What does Chris say right after we see the memory him betraying Ade? “I love you man”.

It’s definitely one of the great montages on the show. Often times of The Sopranos I found myself wishing they’d let the music play out a little longer. It was actually the creator David Chase’s favourite music moment on the show.

Stan the Man

One more thing. That flashback moment between Christopher & Tony was actually cut from the episode it was originally filmed for(season 5 episode 12). That way the audience stayed in suspense up until the last possible moment on whether or not Chris truly betrayed her.

More connection on who Paulie’s real father is: Paulie being asked if he has a history of “prostate cancer in the family” & he says he’s doesn’t know. Who did have prostate cancer in the show? Russ Fegoli. Carmela’s father’s asshole friend we met back in “Marco Polo”. So the connections of Russ being Paulie’s biological father include: Service in the military, connection to the Vatican, prostate cancer, the name “Russ”, And that Russ was a ladies man in the service. And they even look a little alike.

Stan the Man

That scene with Chris is one of the best in the series, and maybe most underrated. I had forgotten how good it was. The entire episode he's just thinking of Adriana and knows that no matter what he builds he'll never have her in his life again, so he decides to use again. I've never done stuff like H but you can see how serene it can make you feel during that scene. I think the dog was a nod to Cossette, like Chris was making amends by being nice to it. The shot of him passed out at the now empty festival is one of the bleakest images ever, because you know that Chris might never be at peace again.

Chrissy’s a psycho and a fuck up and he’s not even wasting any talent by losing himself to addiction. And he chose Tony and “the life” over Ade and he’s choosing drugs over his new wife and baby, so we should wish him all of the misery he’s brought on himself, yet the writing and especially Imperioli’s acting makes my heart shatter for the guy. For a show so rightly lauded for its use of music during its original run, surprisingly little gets commented regarding that particular subject around here but I'd like to highlight the extraordinarily effective use of Fred Neil's "The Dolphins" in this episode. It's just gut punch devastating.

I’ve always liked the relaxed pace of 6A. We don’t have much time left with these characters so we’re spending as much time as we can with them. 6B moves at a rapid fire pace.

That was the Virgin Mary Paulie saw. And if you look again you can see her in the mirror BEFORE Paulie sees her. Yet another supernatural experience on the sopranos

Stan the Man

Episode 12 "Kaisha" is the season finale of Part One/ Season Six. And then "Soprano Home Movies" is episode one of Part Two/ Season Seven

One of my fav eps

Stan the Man

I love this episode. It's the first time Paulie finally realizes how much of a shit he has been and decides to make a change (after a sign from above). It's subtle, but a monumental development for his character in the final season.
