I’m new to your Patreon (but not new to you guys, I’ve been following ya’ll on YouTube for the longest) and I hate seeing disrespectful comments. Let people love the movies they love! Of course just because someone is uncomfortable that isn't a good metric for comment worthiness. Someone may feel uncomfortable because someone requested a movie they dislike. A comment has to be objectively abusive to be inappropriate. Offence is taken, not given.

That sucks. I don't understand why people have to act that way. We're all here because we love movies. It's not that serious and anyone who'd feel the need to insult someone else over a movie needs to re-evaluate things.

Movies are all about connecting to it's audience. We've all seen movies rated 8+/10 and were like "meh" while we watch some movies rated 4/10 and love them. Everyone's opinion is valid. I love hearing other's perspectives on movies as we all miss something sometimes and that one bit of insight totally changes what you thought a movie was really about.

I would in fact go one step further, I know a lot of people use the anonymity of the internet to allow them to harass others in ways they would NEVER do face to face, we need to internalize new rules of etiquette for the internet, I think we can all see how it isn't truly harmless. We all need to learn to do better.

If anyone says something negative to you, just DO NOT RESPOND. Ignore them as if they never made the comment. Literally continue to post your opinion as if you never saw it. I think 99% of the comments I've read on your Patreon posts have been respectful, but I have seen a few "if you like this movie you're lying to yourself because it actually sucks" kind of posts--which is just insulting and unnecessary. Sucks you guys have to keep addressing a few bad apples. I don't think anyone here loves every movie that wins a poll, but if you're not a fan of a certain movie, there's so many others to watch, so I don't get the hostility. Thanks for trying to create a welcoming environment, though.

When you say "authorities" are you referring to law enforcement? While I agree Daniel and Sam shouldn't have to be on top of the comments all the time, it is their responsibility as it is their Patreon. Again, I want them to have to do as little moderation as possible, but I think there has to be some steps before calling the cops.

I've seen people express frustration at their movies not being selected or annoyance at the movie selected but I've never seen personal attacks. I think Patrons here are too mature for that and just want to watch your reactions. I guess the odd devolvement into politics happens and some people take attacks on their politics as personal attacks but it soon gets forgotten. Overall I think we're all a good bunch united in our TBR Schmidt fandom.

One of the most underrated aspects of patreon is that the communities tend not to devolve into hostility, so it's especially a bummer to read or read about that kind of stuff here of all places. Still, I don't want to sound unappreciative either, and I'm thankful that overall, I rarely see that kind of stuff on this channel. Thanks for keeping things friendly, Sam and Daniel.

This post was very thoughtful, Sam. Well said. You guys create the content, but we all come here in an attempt to find common ground, surrounding an interest we already know we share. The most fun I've had on these channels is helping creators fine-tune their watch list into something coherent (doesn't suck for everyone) and potentially successful. This is only a positive experience if we talk about the movies, and why we love or hate them. That's perfectly fine. Lashing out and throwing personal insults at people who like things you don't only makes me want to lash out and throw personal insults at people who like things I don't. The goal we all have is growing your channel, so that you get to keep doing what you enjoy, and we get to have fun experiencing movies we love, as if it were for the first time.
