Horror Sequel Film Poll!

Help pick the Horror Sequel movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

NOTE: I have seen 28 Weeks Later, so this would only be Sam's first time reaction.

*We received a ton of suggestions for Horror Sequels, but we are trying to keep the poll sizes more reasonable. We have noted all suggestions for Future polls!

Comments

Steer clear of the Scream sequels. 2 was okay but the rest are garbage, especially the one that came out a year or two ago.

fallingupdownthere

Honestly, I hated both cuts. And I don't use the word "hate" often or lightly.

Miles E Coburn

That’s awesome. I went to Nitehawk Cinema here in Brooklyn last month to see Psycho II on the big screen, and you could tell a lot of people had never seen it. Reaction was terrific.

Jarrod Hornbeck

Oh, haha, I was just saying there is no director's cut. At the end of the comment I tried to make it clear: Workprint version is the one I think is great.

Tyler Foster

Agree. The new cut is interesting but the theatrical is actually still better.

Odd Thomas

I prefer the theatrical.

Odd Thomas

It’s not a horror movie per se, but “Duel” (1971) is an excellent movie. It’s Spielberg’s directorial debut and essentially it’s “Jaws”, but with a truck driver instead of a shark.

Jeff Mills

Yeah, Tarantino is a HUGE Psycho 2 fan. He often shows it in his theatre. It would be fun to watch it there! I also love that he uses the poster for part 2 to promote the triple feature, even though part 1 is so iconic.

Future Boy

I remember going to see it with my dad and neither of us were impressed. But I guess it is hard to make a sequel to one of the greatest films of the last 50 years.

Jeffrey Miller

I know, I want them to continue F13 franchise but I think they still got PTSD from Paramount striking them for their first upload. They have had success with paramount since so I hope they do pt 2soon

Ken Veader

they are showing a Psycho triple feature at the New Beverly in LA next week. should be fun.

Birdie Num Num

they've already reacted to that

Birdie Num Num

This is a very solid list but the two best are winning for the moment

Nathan Steele

Yeah I actually think the flashback stuff in Psycho IV is pretty decent as well, making the Psycho quadrilogy one of the best horror franchises. I personally love Psycho III as well, probably just as much as II.

Jarrod Hornbeck

Jeff Mills

Even though it probably won't win, I agree. That sequel is criminally underrated.

Scott Kerr

Hannibal? Huh.

Odd Thomas

Psycho 2 is so underrated. Anthony Perkins performance in it is arguably one of the best lead actors in a horror film and arguably is better than in the original Psycho

Ken Veader

I was pleasantly surprised that the latest Scream sequel did a shout out to Psycho II. It truly is an under appreciated movie, but it was successful upon its initial release, and so much so that Universal green lighted Psycho III and allowed Anthony Perkins to direct it. I think the third one is great too.

Robert Boyd

Since y'all reviewed 2010 without it winning a poll, hopefully you will consider doing the same with Psycho II(since it obviously will never win a poll). I get the idea of making a sequel to Psycho was sort of considered blasphemy at the time, but it's clear a lot of care was put into not just making a retread of the original. I suspect many of the voters here have never seen it. Really surprised Hannibal is winning, it was pretty reviled when it came out, had no idea that it had any sort of enduring popularity with other generations, apparently. Norman is a unique villain in that he is also a tragic figure, but Hannibal is just a one dimensional villain(who worked so well in Silence since he had limited screen time). Psycho II also has an amazing score from the legendary Jerry Goldsmith(Alien, First Blood, Planet of the Apes)

Birdie Num Num

No Friday the 13th Part 2?

Joshua Nelson

Psycho II and Psycho III need to be seen whether they win a poll or not. They are so good and each one is unique while still continuing the strange tale of Norman Bates. Actually, part 2 makes Norman such a sympathetic character, but I wouldn’t dream of revealing its secrets. Texas Chainsaw 2 needs to be seen as well because it is such a departure from the first, and has one of the best jump scares in a horror film. I appreciate Tobe Hooper’s approach to go totally bonkers with it. And it’s the first major motion picture to use “The Goo Goo Muck.” If you’ve seen Wednesday, you’ll know the song. Lastly, Halloween II should be seen. Not the best sequel, but it literally is a direct continuation of the original and most of the cast and crew was back for this one, so it probably feels most like a Halloween movie. I’m not voting for Scream 3 because the other three I voted for are so much stronger, but it is required viewing if you plan on watching the whole series, and you should. It is the weakest one though, but has a couple of good things going for it. Most notably Neve Campbell returning as Sydney Prescott. But I think I’ll wait and vote for it the next go around, though you watched all the Lethal Weapons movies without putting them in polls, so maybe you should do that with the Scream movies. Cheers!

Robert Boyd

"Return of the Living Dead" (1985) is another outstanding horror/comedy sequel. It would be fun if you did a series on both zombie and samurai movies. In the same way that Kurosawa gets credit for making the first great samurai movie that launched a genre, George Romero gets credit for launching the zombie genre with "Night of the Living Dead"(1968). Return of the Living Dead is an alternate sequel, along with "Dawn of the Dead", based upon a story by one of Romero's collaborators on the first film. Return of the Living Dead has a lot of clever laughs, like Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.

Erwin Quiachon

Tom Hanks, Corey Feldman, Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern, Ron Howard's dad!

Future Boy

Psycho II is the best sequel on this list. That should be the one they watch. It’s vastly under-appreciated, so it won’t win a poll. Halloween II, which is actually quite a mediocre sequel, will. Ah well.

Jarrod Hornbeck

Psycho 2 is my favourite horror sequel ever. It absolutely will NOT win a poll because there will always be too many ultra-popular options that beat it out. But I plead for it to be added to the schedule at some point. Actually, June 3rd this year is 40 years to the day of its theatrical release. Would be fitting! It's very different to the first film. Psycho 2 is top-tier 80's slasher territory, but with a great mystery to solve along the way. Halloween 2 is also fantastic, and another underrated sequel. It's got a "real-time" intensity that's great, and I think it's way more fun than the first.

Future Boy

Poltergeist II scared me for sure.

Rudy Hernandez

Scream? Lol really

Justin

Alien 3 is so underrated. From the opening credits I knew David Fincher was going to be an amazing filmmaker. The theatrical cut is best imo.

Odd Thomas

Exorcist 3

John Frilando

Man, this was the hardest poll yet! So many good choices! I might as well throw in some scary movie recommendations for October now 😁 The Ghost and The Darkness Lights Out The Grudge (Japanese or American version) Dawn of the Dead (Original or 2004 version)

Nismo

Slight correction: the alternate cut of Alien³ is officially called the Workprint Cut, and -- this is the important part for Dan and Sam -- online where it can be purchased and rented, it is called the Special Edition. It is NOT a director's cut as Fincher has disowned the movie -- he has never been involved with the film since he stepped away after turning in the incomplete version that is preserved in the Special Edition back in 1992. He doesn't talk about it in interviews, and was not involved with the bonus features created for the 2003 DVD (and which were initially censored, and restored on the Blu-ray). That said, I do think it's my favorite movie in the series, in that Workprint form. Fincher wasn't involved, but they even brought back Weaver and Dutton to complete some ADR that never got done for the Blu-ray version!

Tyler Foster

Not a sequel. It's usually listed under comedy/horror. You will love it. Tom Hanks and Corey Feldman ( Mouth from The Goonies)

Jonathan Patrick

Let's go Scream franchise! Scream 3 is the "weakest" movie in the franchise (in my opinion), but we have to watch every Scream movie!! Even though Scream 3 is the weakest of the franchise (again, my opinion), I still think it's pretty good. I'm a big fan of Scream.

Marcio T

If by some miracle, Alien 3 wins this poll, I hope it's the director's cut, because the theatrical cut was condemned, but the director's cut righted those wrongs. Yet, NOBODY knows this (or they hated the theatrical cut enough to not find out), and Fincher's cut has an additional 40+ minutes of footage!

Brandon Royce

Do "unofficial" sequels count? Because, technically, 'Return of the Living Dead' is a quasi-sequel to 'Night of the Living Dead'. It's a wickedly fun and funny horror/comedy and seeing 'NotLD' is not required to enjoy 'Return'.

Jeff B.

Fright Night (1985) Fright Night 2 (Not the remakes)

Jonathan Patrick

PSYCHO II is one of the best horror sequels ever made somehow.

Jason Chirevas

Yeah, I'm indifferent on 3, but 4, 5, & 6 are great!

David Crabtree

Nothing. Also, it’s not horror. It’s a black comedy.

Jason Chirevas

The first one gave us a strike on the channel, so we'll have to wait until we can get it back up before we consider the sequel! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Keep going with Scream! 🥰❤️🔪😱

Travis Mason

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel is actually a very clever horror/comedy and a great relief for anyone who was disturbed by the original. I remember that the original director/creator insisted that the second be a comedy for that reason, otherwise he would not do a sequel. I grew up with a bunch of kids who were so fascinated with that sequel to the point of memorizing every line from that film. The teacher in our Shakespeare class got really pissed off when he caught one kid reciting several scenes from that Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel before class by memory.

Erwin Quiachon

Finish the Scream series! 😬🔪

Tristan Durant

"Psycho II" and "Halloween II" are mandatory. 🤓

Mr. Writhms

But where's Friday the 13th?

Alex

This is the first poll where I've voted for every single film LOL

Alex

What movie is that a sequel to? :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Second for The Burbs

Florian Meier

Seconding this! 👀. 3 may be the weaker spot of the franchise, but they get so much better with 4, 5 and 6

Lee Brennan

Let the right one in 🤩🤩

Björn Karlsson

Also The Burbs (1989) - an underrated classic.

Sergeant Pepper

Scream 3!! Actually with Scream 6 just released on streaming, you guys should do a watch-through of the rest of the films!

David Crabtree

Child’s play 2!!!

Walter White

I went with Texas Chainsaw because it's so batshit crazy. Honestly though... all of these are great. It's too bad these are single film polls and not series polls. I can't wait for you guys to get through all of the Chucky and Freddy sequels. You'll have so much fun with those.

Sergeant Pepper

The Burbs (1989)

Jonathan Patrick

Sorry all! The settings were wrong so we had to redo :( -Sam
