The Sopranos Season 5 Episode 13 'All Due Respect' Full TV Reaction!!

YoureMrLebowski

just scrolling through your stuff and noticed a "foreign movie" poll. did a deepscan and apparently you never did tiger and dragon by ang lee. thats top tier when it comes to foreign movies so you might want to consider adding that (eventually or whatever) greetings

The Sopranos is like the parable of the frog that will boil to death if you place it in a pot of water and very slowly increase the temperature. With The Sopranos, the frog is the audience and the water temperature is the darkness. Peak darkness is coming in season 6, but we've all been desensitised, and none of us will jump out of the pot. I think season 6 is the finest piece of TV ever made. If I had to rank my top 20 episodes of the show, half of them would come from season 6. It's not "fun," but it is incredible. It's also got my favourite opening episode from all seasons, and my favourite opening sequence from any episode. I'm sad the end is near, but excited to watch this final season with you!

Future Boy

I like the recurring motif of eggs again in this episode, symbolizing death and destruction, like it's own version of the Godfather oranges (Ralphie making eggs before dying, Carmine having a stroke while eating egg salad, Valentina set on fire while making eggs etc.). Tony steps on some rotten eggs when he throws away the painting and realizes that he has to step up and be like the general he's seen as and takes out that Animal Blundetto himself. Speaking of generals, the documentary Tony is watching is of Erwin Rommel, a decorated German general in WW1 and WW2 and there was, and still is, a lot of mythos about his prowess as a tactician and effective leadership. The reality is a lot murkier, but he's still honored by Germany even today, having barracks named after him despite having served in the Nazi regime. There's some similarities made between he and Tony, mainly that there exists a cult of personality for the two men in their respective worlds. Rommel was highly respected by his peers and Tony sort of commanded respect by his crew. Overall, a strong ending to the season and excellent reaction as always. Now we're in the endgame. Episode 1 of Season 6 is the strongest opener in the series imo and does a superb job setting up the beginning of the end. You both remarked on how depressing and dark season 5 is and... well, you'll see what's to come. I think season 6 overall is one of the best works of fiction ever produced.

Definitely there has always been a spiritual dimension to the show, which they explore a little deeper in S6.

6a is the yin to 6B’s yang.

Just a little context and history before y’all get into the final season: So Season 6A ran from March 2006-June 2006 and Season 6B ran from April 2007-June 2007. Again, the creator and writers consider them separate seasons. I don’t because they are so thematically linked. But they couldn’t call season 6B season 7 because of the way actor contracts are negotiated. Had they called it season 7 all the actors would have to be re signed to new contracts Vs just calling it 6B and having the episodes attached to the season 6 actor contracts. Just to provide some history…season 6 was originally going to be just 10 episodes. And then it was upped to 12. But then, and I still remember this being announced because I was so happy, they announced that David Chase, the head writer and show runner, had more story to tell so they added 8 more episodes. That 8 then turned to 9.

So Jimmy Patrile is the NY rat. If you remember he’s the one who called Tony about the “Tennis match” being over between Little Carmine and Johnny Sac. You saw him throughout the season beside Johnny Sac at all the sit downs. The final moments of this episode, and something Tony does, became a rather major plot point in the final season. Just a little tease. Let’s see if you caught it. Anyways, great reactions. Strap yourselves in for season 6. Which is divided in two parts. On streaming they have all 21 episodes in a single season. But that is not how they aired. In reality the writers and producers consider the final 21 episodes to be a season 6 and 7 but they couldn’t call it season 7 due to certain contract reasons. So it was called season 6A which runs 12 episodes(“Members Only”-“Kaishia”) and then season 6B which is 9 episodes(“Soprano Home Movies”-“Made in America”).

Another great reaction, and end to a season. I’m looking forward to the ride that begins next week.

Yeah I would add Silvio to Artie as being one of Tony's "true" friends. Silvio is by far the most loyal and level-headed of the New Jersey Crew and he gives Tony actually sound advice. Paulie is a scumbag person but I don't think the painting was just kissing Tony's ass. I think he genuinely admires Tony as a leader and since he doesn't have any wife/kids thinks of Tony and his "mafia family" as real family. Phil was not said to be arrested so you will see whatever happened there next season. Super excited for season 6 it's amazing and it's my favorite TV season ever! Can't wait I've loved your reactions thus far. Much of the "best" of this show is still yet to come.

Haven’t watched this reaction yet, but I agree. 6A gets some flak for the direction it takes but it’s so brilliant imo. It’s like season 4 on steroids. 6B is just GOATed but absolutely merciless.

I can’t wait for you guys to go on the journey that is Season 6. If I can use one word to describe season 6 it would be…spiritual.

Wayne Delaune (cardaderdention)

the end of this episode, when Tony knocks on the window to get in, always reminds me of The Flintstones closing. WILMA!!
