The Goonies (1985) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

The Goonies (1985) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

Yesterday was the 40th anniversary of The Goonies. Needed to give it another watch along with you guys.

Mr. Chumpus

Totally forgot about this, but back when I was a little boy I had a crush on Soleil Moon Frye (Punky Brewster).. and one time I read that she was going out with Corey Feldman and I started crying. So me and Corey Feldman had beef back then. lol (not really)

Alex

Perhaps the greatest thing about THE GOONIES is the video commentary the entire cast and Richard Donner recorded about 15 or so years ago. Maybe the best commentary ever.

Jason Chirevas

For real though. Alyssa Sutherland is so psychologically malevolent that she puts the "evil" in EVIL DEAD.

Philip Davetas

Oh man it looks terrifying from the trailer!! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

LOL Daniel noticed it even more in the edit -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I don't know where to post this comment because it's so off subject. Just got back from EVIL DEAD RISE and it was FUCKING AWESOME!

Philip Davetas

Flight of the Navigator is Great!! I Second that

Florian Meier

Yes!! The Omen is so Great!! Second for the Omen

Florian Meier

One of the best movies in the 80's.

Jen Barnes

The 80s, what a wild time to be a kid.

Grand Moff Slackin'

To the bikes! Yeah kids movies were different in the 80s lol. I was and always will be a huge fan of this movie, it's just so fun. I think I did see this in the theater but I was very young, but it definitely influenced my childhood, which I spent riding bikes and skateboarding with my friends, exploring my little town (including certain sections of the underground drainage system, where the skateboards came in handy because we had to crawl through some parts, yeah I don't know how we survived childhood either lol). One of my favorite behind the scenes facts is that they built that awesome pirate ship set but didn't tell the kids, so their reactions are genuine, and watching it now knowing that you can really see amazement in their faces. Another is that when Data mentions "the octopus" to the reporter at the end, there was actually a scene with a huge octopus in the cave with the Inferno, I've seen it and I'm so glad they had the sense to cut it, it was BAD, one of the times 80s practical FX weren't quite up to snuff. Also, funny you mentioned the Indiana Jones films because Ke Huy Quan is in one of them, if you mentioned that I missed it, but yeah, he was actually my favorite part of that particular one, I'm so happy he's acting again and has had such success, I hope he can keep it going.

Love seeing so many recommend Flight of the Navigator, coz that means that there's a good likelihood they may actually watch it on the channel!

Alex

And the sequel to Short Circuit as well. One of the rare movies with a good sequel in the 80s. And yes love Flight of the Navigator it's a great film.

Alex

Yeah, really great movie. One of my absolute favorites.

Alex

Now you see why this is such a classic, why this movie is so beloved by my generation of kids and teens that grew up in the 80's. This movie takes us back to a different time when things were simple when we could just be kids, no internet, no social media. We made our neighborhood and the woods our playground, building tunnels and forts and used our imagination to be whatever we wanted and you feel that with this story. They have talked for years about doing a sequel bringing back as much as they can of the original cast but I hope it never happens, you can't re-create magic like this film.

I love the Goonies! It's so much fun. It's funny. It's just total entertainment. Plus, knowing Steven Spielberg is involved makes me enjoy it even more.

Scott Kerr

I'll add The Omen (1976) to that list of Donner films. It's the first horror film I ever saw. I was about 6 years old. Yikes! My 13 year old step-brother was babysitting me and it came on TV late one Friday night. We watched it together and didn't recover for several years!

Future Boy

I love The Wizard! Some people see it as a 90 minute Nintendo commercial, but I've rewatched it a couple of times as an adult and I'm surprised how well it holds up. It's a fun, touching story, and like so many great kids' films, a great adventure. It also has a great cast (Fred Savage, Beau Bridges, Christian Slater).

Future Boy

Yes to both, especially Flight of the Navigator. One of the many VHS tapes I wore out in the 80s/90s. Such a fun adventure!

Future Boy

I've seen The Goonies dozens of times, and this is the most fun I've had watching it since the first time (not the first reaction I've said that about on the channel!) Two great sci-fi kids' adventures films I'd love to see on the channel: Flight of the Navigator (1986). Explorers (1985, starring River Phoenix and Ethan Hawke).

Future Boy

The 'Burbs is: My favourite Tom Hanks film. My favourite comedy. My favourite comedy soundtrack. My favourite opening shot in a film. My most watched film ever. My most quoted film ever. Yes, I love it!

Future Boy

Such a fun movie from my childhood. It was great to rewatch with the two of you!! 😊😊

Ed Garland

Now that you've seen Stand by Me and The Goonies, you should check out The Lost Boys (1987) at some point. It's another classic 80s film that has some familiar faces and has an awesome soundtrack. Fair warning, it's more horror oriented than the other two films so get ready for some possible jump scares but they're worth it.

James Miley

As someone who grew up with this movie, I'm so tickled that you two had fun with it! Also, as someone who grew up in the 80s: yes, there were tons of movies that were marketed to kids or were -mistaken- for children's content (like, because it was animated!) that we watched at the time that broke our brains. lol Some of those include: Watership Down, Plague Dogs, The Secret of NIMH, Return to Oz.

Rue

Richard Donner has made quite a few of my favorite movies. Goonies, Lethal Weapon, Scrooged, Ladyhawke and the one I love the most, Superman: The Movie. Sloth obviously knows what I'm talking about.

Kyle

You just watched one of the most iconic movies of the 80s. I have never watched Stand By Me but if you guys liken it to The Goonies I will have to watch it. I always thought it was dumb because of I thought the song Stand By Me was so sappy as a kid. Some other classics: The Wizard, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the original trilogy with Corey Feldman) but not as iconic as this. For me personally Flight of the Navigator was really huge. I loved that spaceship design it captivated me forever the way they designed it and the CGI. One of the first movies to use env (environment) mapping. Great film about an adventure, just like this one. The Wizard as I've said before was the closest anyone could get to something like being a Twitch Streamer or eSports competitor before any of that stuff existed, so I think Daniel will love that one. Really funny and really good moments. I think what Andie was talking about was his lungs Sam :P BTW, I just saw this, and I remember it when I saw it.. Never caught this, did you notice in the basement of the restaurant Mikey calls his brother Josh instead of Brand? I just read it and I remember that and never even thought about it. I always thought he was talking to someone else named Josh but there is no one named Josh except for Josh Brolin..

Rudy (1993) Sean Astin

Two iconic 80s kids movies you need to watch: Short Circuit Flight of the Navigator

Odd Thomas

Great Reaction !!! Please watch Another film with Corey Feldman "The Burbs" with Tom Hanks ;) You will love it

Florian Meier

Only if it's like Cobra Kai.

Alex

I love the swearing - you never get that in kids movies any more, lol. It's much more realistic. Good old 80s.

Odd Thomas

Saw this in the theater as a kid and grew up watching it at home. Probably my favorite "kids" movie of all time. Mouth was my favorite character. I got in so much trouble trying to act like him. 😂 This is one of those movies that they wanted to do a sequel to, but just never had the right story.

ShadowVessel π

I think this one is lightning in a bottle, there's no duplicating or sequels that are ever going to live up to this one

Sarah

shhhh

aarswft

I literally had to take a break from watching it. I really really want to like it but it is nothing but kids yelling their lines!

Jeffrey Miller

No.

Joel P

I enjoyed this as a kid but my older sister just called it 'kids yelling for the entire movie:D Edit; I posted this comment 5 minutes into viewing the movie. The amount of times you mention how much they yell throughout the movie is funny:)
