Moneyball (2011) Wife's First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

I need to watch this again. I've seen when it came out, but I really didn't understand the formula he was pimping.

Philip Davetas

I enjoyed this reaction very much. Thanks.

Jack Burton

I enjoy that movie as well. KC is such a good actor.

Jack Burton

This movie reminds me of Draft Day. Based on the NFL draft starring Kevin Costner

Mr. Chumpus

Speaking for Vegas.........we don't want them

Mr. Chumpus

Glad you two are feeling better! I'm not much of a baseball fan, but I love this movie. The part where they're starting to match and beat the long held records as they're going for 20 always gives me chills (and Sam too apparently lol).

Eric Denney

I love this movie. Watched it many times and will watch it another many times. The only thing I don't like is the depiction that the 2002 A's were a team full of "bad players". It was full of stars including one of the best starting pitcher rotation I have ever seen. And Miguel Tejada being barely mentioned in the movie is like an insult to him.

Yann Laliberté

I'm a massive football (soccer) fan, what with being from the UK. And this data driven stuff is massive over here now as well. It's nothing special what they did, using data and analytics, they were just kinda the first to do it throughout the team. The biggest driver which they recognised was sport was becoming such big big business. But i'll also add, the detractors during this film are correct as well, data only goes so far, you can't get into the mind of an elite sportsman, you can't put that down to one number. And it's the mental side of things that wins you stuff on the pitch, how a person handles pressure.

Another suggestion of The Big Short which a lot of people here and on YouTube have already mentioned. It was fascinating, similar to Moneyball. Also, your editor's inserts were great, kudos!

Jen Barnes

Little Big League is underrated. Loved that movie as a kid.

Joel P

One of my favorite baseball movies is The Sandlot. I hope you guys react to that one if you haven't seen it already!

EdmanXERO

This was based on a book by Michael Lewis, who also wrote the Big Short. I highly recommend the movie. It's hard to believe one of the most entertaining movies of the last decade is about finance.

Marcus Cato

To Las Vegas...

Also, the Cleveland Guardians (Indians at the time) where Beane got Peter from were listening to him at the time and have been big in analytics for years. They have won their division something like five times in the last eight years while having a bottom third of the league salary. Last year they almost beat the Yankees in the playoffs, with a payroll difference of Yankees at $219M and Cleveland at $58M.

Peter Brand is based on Paul DePodesta, who went on to GM the Dodgers and other teams, before actually moving to football with the Cleveland Browns and continuing the trend of using analytics in football as well (though unfortunately not as successful for my Browns lol).

Sorkin also wrote/directed Molly's Game which is such an underrated movie. It's about gambling and stars Jessica Chastain. Highly recommend.

Odd Thomas

I think what I love about this movie is that it's a story about--and which loves--baseball, but that the story really isn't about baseball at all. It's about embracing a new idea, against all odds and skeptics, to fully realize what the thing you love is.

Steve Mercier

Molly’s Game is a good Sorkin film too.

Tim Raths

Sam, Dan… you guys are good eggs.

Jason Dolan

For Love of the Game (1999) Kevin Costner

Rookie of the Year, Angels in the Outfield, Little Big League

Mike Adams

This is in my top 10 sports films. I love the vibe, the cast, and I'm a huge fan of Aaron Sorkin, so I love the writing. I had a great time rewatching it with you. Steve Jobs, The Social Network, and The American President are other Sorkin films I'd love to see on the channel someday. Also, TV shows! The West Wing is my second favourite show of all time after The Sopranos. Sorkin wrote the first 4 seasons. It might be too many episodes to ever appear on the channel, but I can dream... The Newsroom, on the other hand, is only 25 episodes in total, all written/co-written by Sorkin. It's a great show, and very different to anything else you've watched on the channel. But it's more recent, so maybe you've seen it...

Future Boy

Some other great baseball movies: The Natural, The Rookie (Dennis Quaid), 42, A League of Their Own

A lot of that has to do with the team not being good and their stadium is a dump. They’ve been trying for years to get a new stadium and if they don’t get one they’ll probably move the team.

Tim Raths

to answer you question, baseball is still like this, no hard cap like in football or hockey, the only thing they have is a "luxury tax" applied after a certain threshold, the last one i remembering being 275million, teams can spend up to that amount before being monetarily penalized, right now I believe the dodgers and maybe yankess are above the threshold, The A's are always one of lowest spending teams. Jonah Hill's character is based off of Paul Depodesta who currently works for the Cleveland browns of the NFL.

Superbowl champions

Not really related but I just came back from watching the film ‘Air’ in cinema. Highly recommend everyone to watch it, regardless of if you like Basketball, Nike, fashion or whatever. Affleck’s direction and the performances of Matt Damon and Viola Davis, in particular, are superb.

Good Movie and Good Reaction Guys !! Baseball is not my Sport :) ... The Next Sport Movie Should Be the Second Place of this Poll "Million Dollar Baby" Great Masterpiece from Clint Eastwood

Florian Meier

Omg a reason to rewatch an aaron sorkin movie. The world best screen writer!

jimmy2k4o .

Man I do love baseball, but damn it can break your heart sometimes. Dodgers do it almost every year, they get so close and then will literally drop the ball Btw, I went to the same high school as the guy on the Royals who homers for three runs driving the rally that nearly beats the A's, Mike Sweeney, and his mom Maureen used to babysit my little sister. Our school's baseball team won the California state championship twice I think when he was playing. And just last week NASA announced that another Ontario High School alum is going to the Moon, Victor Glover, pilot, he was friends with my neighbor. Just tripping out, my little hometown in the Inland Empire, also Anthony Muñoz, went to Chaffey High, Hall of Fame player for the Bengals, and he has a small part as the gigantic Mexican orderly, Gonzalez, in "The Right Stuff", I used to play soccer in a park named after him lol

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Hard not to get romantic about baseball, love this movie. Billie Beane is a real person, and he's moved up in the Atheltics organization as the vice president I think. The athletics are in a bad spot right now, I think they are averaging 3000 people a home game, really low.

Samuel Bruce

Been waiting for this all day!

Jeffrey Miller

Brad Pitts best, other than Legends of the Fall (1994) and Meet Joe Black (1998) that I highly recommend. I've been waiting for this reaction. What a great Easter weekend for me 😊
