The Crow (1994) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

The Crow (1994) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

Two suggestions I made long time ago: Frequency and The Wizard. Two great movies. The first is with Dennis Quaid, and the second has a lot of people: Fred Savage, Jenny Lewis, Beau Bridges and Christian Slater. Also Tobey McGuire's (uncredited) film debut. I don't wanna say anything about the films in terms of you guys to go in blind but about The Wizard was back then the movie that played out most gamers fantasies back in the 80s/90s before they became commonplace in the influencer/Twitch era.

Alex

I second Dark City. Just as good as The Crow. Sadly after that Alex Proyas just churned out garbage like Gods of Egypt.

Odd Thomas

You guys are passing the bug back and forth like my cats did. Eventually, they built up an immunity. If you liked this you guys might really dig DARK CITY. Directed by the same dude. As for THE CROW, there are other movies, but they're not as good. Arguably, CROW: CITY OF ANGELS is really well shot. Story not so much. It's pretty much diminishing returns though.

Philip Davetas

Oh yes i forgot those but i meant the main stream American films that hes done!!

Demos Samolis

You need to check out legacy of rage and lazer mission then my dude

Ah, watching THE CROW again brought back a lot of memories. This started off the summer movie season of 1994, which also had SPEED, TRUE LIES, FORREST GUMP, THE LION KING, THE MASK, NATURAL BORN KILLERS and more. It was a summer of great movies. I’ve always had a lot of respect for this movie. It has its own style, and watching Brandon Lee, I realized where Heath Ledger must have gotten inspiration for his Joker. Definitely a remarkable meditation on melancholy and grief.

Robert Boyd

It was more than that

Ken Veader

I will be re watching this again with you guys because how much i love this film. Rapid Fire and Showdown in Little Tokyo are Brandon Lees only other films and both are just as amazing and really highlights his personality as an actor. You guys would love both movies. They are fun action movies and Showdown in Little Tokyo stars Dolf Lundgren too. Another fun fact is the bad guy that Brandon Lee blows up in the car is the same guy that Arnold Schwarzenegger let go over the mountain in Commando!!!

Demos Samolis

I have the disc, so at some point I’ll get around to watching this with you guys. Sorry to hear that both of you are still dealing with illness issues. There’s a lot of stuff going around right now, even a new strain of COVID, perish the thought. I’ve been under the weather, too. There’s some really stubborn crud going around.

David Wilkins

Never cared for The Crow, not my cup of tea. But I'm glad it has its fans.

David Crabtree

I watched the sequel; that put me off any more. So bad.

Odd Thomas

30 years on it still kicks ass. Clearly a big influence on Nolan and other comic-book movies.

Odd Thomas

All I can imagine is, if Daniel had watched this as a young impressionable teenager, it would be one of his top 10 action/revenge/supernatural films. Glad you guys did manage to see it and feature it on your channel. Well worth the wait.

I was sixteen years old when this came out, and on my second date with a girl who went to see it with me. During the end scene where Shelley reappears, she whispered in my ear “would you come back to avenge me?” And I was like, “well, it’s only a second date, so we’ll see how you do …” I meant that in jest (and also was hinting at how she could earn some points towards getting avenged in the future) but as there wasn’t a third date I’ve often wondered if there was a better way to respond… 🤔

RIP Brandon Lee, man it still sucks after all these years. That he died, not the movie. This soundtrack was basically a good sample of what I was listening to in high school lol. I still love Burn, by the Cure, such a cool, basically theme song, for a hero like this. Dwight Shrute and I apparently have love for this movie in common, he said it was his favorite, or was it a desert island movie? It's not quite my favorite but it's up there, and he also had good taste in shows, like Battlestar Galactica, hint, hint. So much to love about this movie, the soundtrack, the gritty noir style, the story. I also thought it was funny that on the soundtrack Henry Rollins did a song about Ghost Rider, because in the Marvel comic Ghost Rider has some of the same powers of invincibility and what was called the "Penance Stare" where he looked the perp in their eyes and made them experience what their victim did. So this is basically the Ghost Rider movie I wanted but never got, the Nick Cage ones were a huge disappointment to me. Also, crows are cool, I would tell a story about the North Seattle murder that I made friends with but this comment is too long and I want to tell the story of almost running into T-Bird. I was a truck driver for a few years and sometimes I'd deliver to a place in Jersey City that allowed me to park and spend the day in NYC. One time I was walking down the street in Manhattan and must've been distracted but I suddenly realized I was about to bump head on into someone so I stopped, and so did this guy, he looked up confused for a second, not really at me but like he had just missed his street, and he did a quick 180 then made a left and went down the side street to the Comedy Cellar. That guy was David Patrick Kelly, the actor who plays T-Bird, as well as being the guy in The Warriors who famously does that creepy "Warriors, come out to play-yay", and in a bunch of other movies, all good. He's like M Emmet Walsh, another character actor, if he's in the movie, he probably doesn't have a big part, but guaranteed it's a good movie. He was also in K -Pax, Flirting With Disaster, and Dreamscape, which is a movie I wish would be remade, the premise was cool but the effects were just horrendous even by 80s standards.

Yeah, Dragon: The Bruce Lee story is a great film. It really showcases Bruce Lee's life in a very good way. I have suggested it in the past. One of the best movies I've ever seen.

Alex

Sequels?

Alex

This was a great movie.

https://youtu.be/UM4eVPxb7LA This is the best (and quickest) explanation of what happened. The movie is great, but very sad. The parallels to Eric and Brandon both losing their lives just before the were due to be married is heartbreaking. I’m a huge Bruce Lee and Brandon Lee fan. It’s sad that neither of them got to fully live out their potentials. As for other Brandon Lee movies… for the channel I would only recommend Rapid Fire. His other movies are ok. But if you have to pick only one, I hope it would be this one.

Tommy Richards

I fully agree with this one. One of the very best Van Damme movies, and just a really fun idea for a story.

Vwlss Nvwls

I never watched any of the sequels. I just don't see what more they could do with this, but maybe one day I will check them out.

Vwlss Nvwls

I literally just recommended Rapid Fire before I saw this, hell yeah

Ken Veader

Please consider reacting to Rapid Fire (1992) starring Brandon Lee, it was his breakout action film that landed him the Crow. You get to really see his martial arts talents and charisma . Brandon and his father, Bruce, both taken too soon

Ken Veader

You mentioned the style of the movie seeming like a dark comic. This is based on a comic of the same name.

Vwlss Nvwls

I don't see how this is considered horror. Brandon Lee died during filming, and they used his body/stunt double to finish filming some scenes, and CGI'd his face when needed. My (ex)wife was actually pregnant at the time of his passing, and one of the names we considered (if we had a boy) was Brandon Lee. We had a girl, which I was happy with, because boys cause trouble and girls just cause gray hair. :D My favorite Brandon Lee movie is Rapid Fire, because it really shows off his martial arts talents, and is just a fun movie. He also did one with Dolph Lundgren called Showdown in Little Tokyo which is a typical buddy cop movie, nothing special but not awful. Shortly after this film they had a movie about Bruce Lee called Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story starring Jason Scott Lee (no relation), and it is a must see in my opinion. Very interesting and well done film.

Vwlss Nvwls

Thanks for reacting to this. It was my late girlfriend’s favorite movie.

Oh, my gosh! What a lovely surprise this was on my day sick off work! I'm so so glad that it won and that you enjoyed it. I got to see The Crow in theaters way back in the day when it came out and it basically became my instant favorite-movie-of-all-time. Like, I can't begin to tell you how much this movie means to me - and the graphic novel it comes from (which - if you loved the movie, you should definitely check out the graphic novel by James O'Barr - it's beautiful and insane in all the same kind of ways). The accident was due to a bit of a blank that got caught in the barrel of one of the guns they were using - the weaponsmith didn't check the barrel between takes and when they went to do the scene where Eric is shot in the apartment attack sequence (Michael Massey, who played Funboy, was the one who pulled the trigger and they said it haunted him until the day he died, even though it wasn't his fault), Brandon collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, but they couldn't save him. The movie was only about 65% of the way completed - they had most of the principal photography done, but whenever you watch again, take note of all the shadows around Eric's face in certain sequences. Brandon's stunt double stood in for him for a lot of sort of second unit stuff they still needed (after Eric claws his way out of his grave and goes back to their apartment) and they managed to stitch everything together with Brandon's stunt double and also leftover footage that they took from the alleyway sequence to sort of 'place' Brandon's face on his double (for stuff like the cool round window shot Daniel liked so much and also for some of him at Shelly's vanity). If it was any other film, any other story, I don't think they would have gone as far as they did to salvage the project, but I guess they felt it would be the best way to honor his loss. There are sequels (which imo, just should not have been allowed to happen - capitalism sucks xp), but you'll be perfectly okay with skipping those, I promise - in fact, I'll send you guys extra *NOT* to watch those lol

Nice!

Motherfucking hell yes...

Niccce 🤘 I was a bit obsessed with this movie when I was younger. I still have the graphic novel

ShadowVessel π

Just got alert as I'm heading to sleep so will be watching tomorrow 🥳 havnt seen this for so long but even now a few of my friends and I still quite things from this movie . Still gutted Brandon Lee died making this movie such a tragedy 😥 really cool movie though and I'm looking forward to your reaction and always wonderful outro

Ian

And I was about to take a nap. XD Guess I can stay up for this. lol EDIT: One thing I really loved about this movie was the use of the guitar Eric took from the pawn shop. He was obviously the front man for his band before he died, and I assume he was also the lead guitarist as well. Both scenes when he plays it, it symbolizes his emotions at the time. The first guitar solo he does was a symbol of his pain, sorrow, confusion and sense of loneliness. That's why the first solo sounds so tragic and melancholy. The second and last solo Eric performs is motivated by regret, determination, vengeance and pure rage. Even the crow itself watches on and allows Eric to play his heart out one last time. And by the time Eric smashes the guitar, the distortion engulfs the rooftops as if letting the bad guys know their time is up.
