The Sopranos Season 5 Episode 4 'All Happy Families...' Full TV Reaction!!

Comments

Hope there's a new one today! Need some weekend fun

Jonny Kerr (JK)

Big Girls Don't Cry, Sherry, Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You, December 1963, Frankie Vallie plays Rusty.

Ghost Crusaders

@Stan that wasn't what I was thinking of, but maybe there is another inside joke out there that I missed.

Marcus Cato

@ Marcus is the other inside joke having to do a certain song about peanuts?

Stan the Man

I was really surprised that no one recognized at least one of the celebrity guest stars. I mean, Lawrence Taylor, the greatest linebacker ever! Not to mention David Lee Roth and Frankie Valli. Even Bernie Brillstein made an appearance. Just because something was "before my time" doesn't mean I don't know anything about it.

Mike Tocci

There is another inside joke like that coming up later. I'm sure someone will point it out when it happens. It's a good one!

Marcus Cato

Ha! I always wondered what that little moment was. Thanks for the nugget!

Nicky D

I hope to see more Robert Loggia films on the channel in the future. My 3 favourites from him are Big (1988, with Tom Hanks), Psycho 2 (1983, my favourite sequel of all time), and Gladiator (1992, not to be confused with the Russell Crowe/Ridley Scott Gladiator from 2000). The 1992 Gladiator is a great little 90s action/sports/drama, about teenagers getting mixed up in underground boxing. It's like a B-movie cross between Rocky and Bloodsport. A great cast too!

Future Boy

That is a great scene. He knows it's almost certainly the last time he will see the outside and he's stuck looking at box store parking lots. It's fascinating how this show can you feel bad for awful people.

Marcus Cato

I really liked this episode with a lot of good interactions between characters. Carmela reading AJ's psych assessment and saying his affect was constricted. All "affect" means is how someone is outwardly expressing their emotions. Constricted affect just means someone's expressiveness is limited. You might have heard flat affect before which means someone who isn't showing emotion. Honestly, while AJ is obviously being a dick, it's really not too far from my experience growing up. I would have loved to see Mudvayne at his age and the first time I got high was using a gravity bong which was the two liter bottle thing they were smoking from. I think it might have something to do with my sometimes tumultuous relationship with my mom growing up, but I can empathize with AJ to an extent. He was absolutely spot on when he was calling her out during dinner for her manipulative guilt trips. Hell, it kinda triggered me. Unfortunately, AJ absolutely blew it by not going to Meadow's after the show. Carmela did the right thing and gave him some freedom with completely reasonable limits. If AJ would have just did what he was told he would have built up trust and it would have made it easier for future opportunities to go out with friends.

Feech didn’t stick around long, and he was a major pain while he was here, but that shot of him riding the bus back to prison, where, after the briefest taste of freedom, he knows he will die is absolutely devastating. The look on his face, wow. It would have been more humane if Tony had clipped him. RIP Bob Loggia. New category: funniest line, non cast member. David Lee Roth saying he used to be able to.write off condoms on his taxes. If you’re a Van Halen fan, yeah, that seems entirely plausible. Honorable mention: Mr Wegler recommending Madame Bovary to Carmelaβ€”I mean c’mon, dude. She dropped out of Montclair State.

I was gonna comment about Frankie Valli as he (along with Sinatra) was a god in my family growing up. You're right, Rusty is a fairly minor character, but I've always felt as if The Four Seasons hovered around this show somewhere in the ether. You mention one reference and there are more including going to see Jersey Boys on broadway and, of course, s2e5 is entitled Big Girls Don't Cry.

Robert Livingood

RIP Bob Loggia. i love that you gave him some love. As someone who's always deeply loved character actors, Loggia was always one of my favorites--reminded me of my great uncles. I guess his most enduring role was probably Frank Lopez, Tony's boss/Michelle Pfeiffer's husband in Scarface.

Robert Livingood

Oofah, that one hurt my soul!

"And AJ has no eyebrows"..🀣🀣

I remember during the first half of the Goodfellas reaction, way back, Daniel saying how great the mafia life seemed. Then comes the downfall in the second half, and the life becomes truly horrible. The Sopranos never had the great first half. It's entirely about the downfall. We never saw things good. Tony says in the first episode that he feels like he came in at the end. All 86 episodes are the downfall. Now four episodes into season 5 and there's no trace of anything that was ever good. Tony and Artie destroyed their marriages and now live together like college kids in Tony's dead mother's house. Carmela's alone in her gigantic empty nest. Bobby lost the love of his life and replaced her with Janice. Chris is clean, but Adriana is trapped by the FBI and betraying him and his friends every single day. Junior's gone nuts. And AJ has no eyebrows. Getting to rewatch this show with these great reactions, and discussing it all in these comments with new and old fans, never gets old!

Future Boy

Yeah it's not so much the quality of the shows,it's more just the time commitment and burn out, every time I try and watch a tv series, even if it is really good,I just get burnt out on it and give up,so I have just stopped trying, but the reviews and viewer ratings clearly show that this is one of the best

Duncan

I’m not a huge fan of TV show reactions either but The Sopranos is one of the few exceptions.

Tim Raths

Fun fact - The little guy Rusty that is in little carmine's corner is played by famous singer Frankie Valli. His story was turned into the musical Jersey Boys.

Wayne Delaune (cardaderdention)

A minor character named Rusty Millio is played by the legendary Frankie Valli. There's an inside joke when Tony and Silvio Dante are at the Crazy Horse. Tony points out the song that is playing, which is a song from Steven van Zandt's band.

Marcus Cato

Initially, Feech was suppose to play a bigger role in S5. But the actor (Robert Loggia) was in poor health and kept forgetting his lines. They ultimately decided to write him out of the show earlier than expected. He sadly passed away from Alzheimer's in 2015.

JG

It always makes me feel old when no one recognizes David Lee Roth.

Andrew

The football player is Lawrence Taylor - greatest defender ever. Also, played most of his games high on crack. In the second game, the blond guy is David Lee Roth. best known as the former lead singer of Van Halen.

Michael Kang-Beats

Well you're in for a treat ,fantastic sequel

Duncan

I haven't seen Maverick yet. I've been saving it for a special occasion. That special occasion will be the moment the upload appears here. I can't wait!

Future Boy

Don't mind me Future Boy ,i'm just having a sulk because I have been super hyped for Top Gun: Maverick but ,i'm still sending good energy vibes πŸ™Œ to the Sopranos watchers and hope you enjoy it ✌

Duncan

Rob Robby

Future Boy

Duncan

I can tell you guys really love The Sopranos.. You always have it up right away. (Enter raspy movie theater voice) whoooooooshppp! (heartbeat sounds) They could be kidnapped... in a foreign country. By foreign nationals. And they would still be getting out every episode of the Sopranos on time.
