The Sopranos Season 4 Episode 12 'Eloise' Full TV Reaction!!

The Sopranos Season 4 Episode 12 'Eloise' Full TV Reaction!!

Comments

I think deep down Meadow is scared of ending up like her mom. That’s why she pushes herself so hard in school and tries to broaden her horizons. In a way, I think she thinks her mom is pathetic for choosing the life she has and rejecting the one she could have had. And deep down, Carmella feels the same way. That’s why the comments always bother her so much. She knows her daughters right.

Jeremy Garner

Me neither, almost there though! Except for the series finale this is the episode I've most anticipated from their reaction videos.

I thought the closing scene of this episode was SO well done. My take is that Carmela was hearing every word Tony was saying about Meadow, contrasting his description of who Meadow is becoming to herself, and having an existential crisis. I'm certain Carmela was having a lightbulb moment in that closing shot. She's not just pining away for Furio, but realizing that the root of her unhappiness are the choices she has made in her life. This whole episode felt like a watershed moment for Carmela’s character. She has been confronted before about taking control of her life, but those past moments never drove hooks into her. Carmela was directly confronted about taking control of her life when she met with the Jewish therapist, but none of the truth bombs he dropped on her were enough to sway Carmela since the points he made to her were grounded in morality—and Carmela’s sense of morality is deeply superficial. There are too many examples of her superficial morality to list, but how about that homophobic rant at the dinner table? Not to mention questioning the therapist’s morality in that episode where they met, simply because he is not Catholic. Also, the diamond-encrusted cross necklace Carm likes to wear is a nice touch... This episode has finally revealed what it will take for Carmela to take action at reclaiming control over her own life: envy. It certainly tracks with her character. At that lunch date, Carmela recognizes that her daughter has arrived at the crossroads she herself was once at--one where she could have finished earning her degree, dated as many Furios and Tonys as she wanted, traveled the world, and found fulfillment in life—and it both fills her with pride and kills her inside to see how Meadow is taking the path she chose not to take and finding happiness in it. Despite Carmela’s putdown of Meadow as a grownup during the lunch date, Meadow is in fact growing up and becoming her own person and the reason is because Meadow is choosing to be the driver of her own life. Carmela’s pride in Meadow is real, but it is totally overshadowed (for now) by her own intense jealousy and regret. Carmela lacked the courage and self-esteem her daughter has when she was her age, but it seems like maybe now her envy will propel her to buck convention and take action toward reclaiming control over her own life.

Christ, I can’t wait for the finale.

Yeah Carmella was a bit of mess for sure -Sam

I kind of felt bad for AJ. He was really proud of his C and his mom just waves it off as a major disappointment (even if AJ likely just read the cliff notes version lol). Carmela was definitely in her feelings in this episode. She felt inadequate as she was outshined Meadow’s Ivy League friends. One is a loving boyfriend which she doesn’t have, one is literal royalty, and one cooks Mac and cheese. Even Tony was stealing the show and Aj… charmed Meadow’s friends I guess.

Here are some movie suggestions: Double Jeopardy, Under Siege, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. You can think of Double Jeopardy as a "The Fugitive" sequel as most Tommy Lee Jones films after the Fugitive seem to be about him chasing down fugitives.. but it's a very good movie. If you liked The Fugitive you will like this even better. It's completely different it's just that Tommy Lee Jones was typecasted a lot back then. Under Siege and its sequel are great action movies on par with any of the action movies already on the channel that blend humor with action and Steven Seagall is great in those two.

Every time the pillow goes over her face and she screams "OH NO" I lose it. I mean full bellied laughs. And I feel bad about it every time. The way she says it though, is straight out of a cartoon in the funniest of ways.

Greg

As you can see, you are definitely not the only one laughing. As I've said before, Chrissy's intervention is, to me, the funniest 5 minutes of TV I've ever seen. I would even suggest, dark as much of it is, the humor is what makes this show so rewatchable. Then again, of course, we all might just be terrible people!

On the face of it, the squabbling between Carmela and Meadow (or as Furio would spell it, Maedo) is clearly instigated by Carmela who acts ridiculously toward her daughter. But Meadow sure never misses an opportunity to rub her mother’s face in the fact that she is so much smarter and so much more sophisticated than Carm. More than once, she’s reminded her mother that she dropped out of Montclair State and she’s ALWAYS threatening to move away someplace very far away (Berkeley, Barcelona, Northwestern etc), but she never actually goes anywhere. I’ve long said that Mead is much more like her dad than her mom: charming (when they want to be), smart, petty and cruel. Mother daughter relationships can be fraught even under the best circumstances, but the dynamic between these two is fascinating to me. The only thing that bothers me about this episode is that Meadow somehow didn’t know Tony was in therapy. How? It was a clueless AJ (redundant, I know) who told a mortified Livia in Season 1 about it (which of course led Livia going to Junior and conspiring to whack Tony over it). So, AJ knew but Meadow didn’t? Huh? Great reactions guys! On to Whitecaps!

Robert Livingood

100% this! There's never a doubt in my mind that this is the explanation for Tony's behavior in this episode.

Robert Livingood

Almost at the end of season 4, dozens of episodes in, and not a single reaction has been less than excellent. Whitecaps, next week, is gonna be incredible. Longest episode ever, and in my opinion, the best season finale you will have seen so far. I'm spoiled. All this great stuff already, and still my favourite 2 seasons to come!

Future Boy

I feel the same way!... 😂 It's even funnier in the next scene when Paulie meets Tony at the Bing and says with a cavalier attitude, "heh-heh, there's the skip" after smothering an old lady to death...😂 😂 I think deep down most Sopranos fans find this scene hilarious, but are too afraid to admit it.

JG

Another couple of great episodes. And now it’s on to the season finale, which is also one the longest of the entire series. I would never give spoilers, but rest assured that a LOT happens in season 5, so I’m also getting geared up for that as well.

David Wilkins

My thought about why Tony seems more levelheaded and mature during this episode is that he is trying to show himself, and indirectly Dr Melfi, that he can get by without Dr Melfi's help. He did this once before when he learned about Gloria Trillo's suicide. If you remember, he starts doing a lot of nice things for people (getting new suits for Carmela's cousin Brian, taking Janice out to dinner). I think he feels a desperate need to prove to himself that he isn't a terrible person.

Marcus Cato

Dark humor is the way it goes with this show. I laughed all the way through Christopher's intervention despite all the pain. So yeah, I couldn't stop from laughing during that scene with Minnie Matrone.

Marcus Cato

Glad to hear that. Someone told me I was a horrible person for finding it funny XD

Shehab Dawoud

No, you're not. From the time he pops up from behind the bed it's absolutely hilarious.

Andrew

Am I the only one who absolutely laughs his ass off every time I see Paulie fight and kill Minn?
