If a person has only watched it once then I don’t think every character has to be referred to exactly.

This has been bothering me so much lol

Great point about Little Carmine. His malapropisms are especially funny because he thinks of himself as smarter and so much more cultured than everyone else on the show.

Robert Livingood

Johnny Sack. No one calls him just Sack 😂

David Murray

“King’s finance minister….Louis D Whatever”, “Sticking Post” etc) When it comes to malapropisms and nonsensical verbiage on this show, no one is more guilty of this than Little Carmine. If you catch something he says making no sense, just know it’s not you…😂 He has a high position in the family pretty much due to nepotism — and not his intelligence. In fact, he’s actually a butt of some jokes because of how stupid he is. But despite all of this, he still has his supporters and is a powerful member of the Lupertazzi family. He did a 180 on helping Tony broker peace because he got jealous of Carmine Sr, saying he would be honoured to have someone like Tony as a son. He has Daddy issues.

Little Carmine was comparing Johnny Sack to Nicolas Fouquet(, marquis de Belle-Île, vicomte de Melun et Vaux AKA “De something”), who was the Superintendent of Finances in France under King Louis XIV. Fouquet was notorious for living lavishly, making the king look like a pauper in comparison. He was seen as being disrespectful by virtue of outshining his superior. Fouquet was seen as treacherous and conniving. He likens Johnny Sack to De Something for wanting to go behind Carmine’s back and do whatever he pleased, mainly out of greed. It just so happened that Brainless the Second couldn’t get his names straight when telling Tony about it. I think the first dreams represents Tony’s guilt. Carmela because of the cheating, Gloria because he feels that he was the catalyst for her suicide, and Ralph of course for killing him. I think the caterpillar represented transformation, or possible transformation that Tony prevented. Ralphie was at a crossroads in his life where he seemed to be ready to change who he was. The caterpillar rested on his bald head, which is how he was shortly before being decapitated. The transformation to a moth could have represented his literal change for alive to dead. I’ve also read before that it could symbolize Tony’s change. He quits therapy in this episode and it could be him accepting who he really is. Svetlana is the goomah whom he most recently cheated with, and another in a long line of women who have disgraced Carmela, who drives the car and looks back at Tony with judging eyes. I think the second dream involves Tony looking back to his roots, his childhood, for the root of his problems. We see a woman’s leg step out of the car, and I used to think it was Gloria or Svetlana’s prosthetic leg, but now after seeing you guys speculate it could easily be Melfi, who wears long skirts that show off her legs. We see Ralphie one more time looking back at Tony, who is now in a stonemason’s uniform. Tony talks about the old stonemason’s who built the longstanding Italian church, which symbolize the famiglia that he was always held in high regard. The woman in the dark is Livia in my opinion, but I had never considered that it could have been Melfi. The silhouette of the woman is shrouded in darkness. This could relate how it’s “all a big nothing” like Livia always used to say. Or it could be something else. That’s why I love these dream sequences. Very Lynchian

I assume the woman on the stairs was Livia. The outline reminds me of her.

A really underrated episode. The dream sequence with the woman on the stairs is beautifully shot and extremely creepy. We also get the introduction of Little Carmine, who gives us so much funny dialogue that is easy to miss.

Marcus Cato

I'm so glad you both reacted with the tacky disgust I always do when Janice brings up the cost of the sides from Outback lol
