Sport Movie Poll!

Help pick the Sports movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

NOTE: I have seen Hoosiers, Moneyball & Warrior, so this would only be Sam's first time reaction.

*We received a ton suggestions on the last polls, but we are trying to keep the poll sizes more reasonable. We have noted all suggestions for future polls!

Comments

Nee to add Friday Night Lights (the movie) to this list.

Cody Sutton

The Hustler is one of the best movies, period. And Searching For Bobby Fischer is absolutely dynamite. Searching For Bobby Fischer was written & directed by Steve Zaillian, who wrote Schindler's List.

Neal Romanek

I wouldn't start with moneyball... even though it's winning this poll...it is a amazing movie but it's more of a sports connoisseur film...on this list there are 4 must watches... warrior, Rudy,Hoosiers and moneyball...

Nathan Steele

Too bad Slap Shot wasn't doing better, what a classic comedy.

Trepid

my $.02 voting Brian's Song (1971) The Natural White Men Can't Jump Miracle Talladega Nights

Tyrone Tyrone

OK, so here's my $.02 for recommended sports movies (not necessarily in order), a few of which have already been seen on this channel Football: 5. Remember the Titans 4. Brian's Song (1971) 3. Friday Night Lights 2. Rudy 1. The Longest Yard (1974) Baseball: 5. The Sandlot 4. Eight Men Out 3. Field of Dreams 2. The Natural 1. Bull Durham Basketball: 5. White Men Can't Jump 4. Coach Carter 3. Love and Basketball 2. Hoosiers 1. Hoop Dreams Hockey: 5. Happy Gilmore* 4. Slap Shot 3. Mystery, Alaska 2. Miracle 1. Goon Auto Racing: 5. Talladega Nights 4. Le Mans (1971) 3. Grand Prix (1966) 2. Cars 1. Ford vs Ferrari

Smooticus

It's a great movie

Smooticus

It is nebulous indeed, no specifics just an expression meaning I wasn't a fan of it. Lucky I didn't mention that she was an alien all along..oops.

Aaron Barlow

“Put myself through” is a completely nebulous phrase, you’re 100% right. …

Jason Chirevas

There's no spoiler, the ending is not given away, it could be anything, it just happened to be something I didn't like which could be something other people love. No specifics whatsoever.

Aaron Barlow

I will never understand why people do stuff like this in reactors’ comments.

Jason Chirevas

I could never put myself through the million dollar baby ending again.

Aaron Barlow

Because people are different.

Jason Chirevas

Top three movie of the 90s.

Jason Chirevas

Searching for Bobby Fischer is amazing. It won't win because it's not a high octane sports action movie, but it should. A truly beautiful movie with a great score by James Horner.

Aaron Barlow

meh

Burt_Fuggin_Reynolds

My two choices too. They're older than the leaders, I assume that's the reason.

Mark Kelso

How the heck is slapshot or rudy not dominating?

PickettsChargingPort

Warrior is probably in my top 5 favorite movies! So under appreciated.

David Crabtree

Warrior! Warrior! Warrior! 😀. Same director as Miracle on Ice which I believe you already watched. Warrior though has a good bit of family drama to it in addition to the sports. Tom Hardy and Nick Nolte are amazing.

Michael Soukup

RUDY!! RUDY!! RUDY!!!

Rudy Hernandez

I`d like to suggest for a future poll, the 1975 Sci-Fi/Sports film (Rollerball) starring James Caan. (He also portrayed Sonny in The Godfather Pts 1 & 2 & Buddy`s Dad Walter in Elf). I always ejoyed his work.

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

If you're gonna watch The Color of Money (1986), I'd watch The Hustler (1961) first.

Mike the Ginger

Never mind

Tim Raths

Never underestimate the power of the Hanson brothers line.

softshoes

Slap Shot - best hockey movie.

Brian McNally

Maybe its because I was born between the two movies and I saw them out of order that I personally don't think you need to watch them in order. My experience in watching them out of order was that I wanted to go back and see what happened to Paul Newman's character as a younger man (like a prequel). It's like almost 30 years between the movies, including the character's age. It's not like one move rolls right into the next. And yeah, it does make his character more developed if you see both, but The Color of Money is fully enjoyable if you see it first. With that said, please watch them both. I feel both of them are classics. If you're going to watch one, definitely watch the other. For some reason people just don't pick these that much in the polls. Idk, maybe people haven't seen them?

Ed R

The Color of Money is a sequel to The Hustler. That's not to say you need to see The Hustler to understand or enjoy it, but Paul Newman's character is the same person in both.

Vwlss Nvwls

I keep pushing for The Color of Money. I think it doesn't win polls because maybe a lot of people just haven't seen it. Maybe I'm in a minority, but its one of my top 10 movies.

Ed R

Well, to be fair, I also just don't think The Color of Money holds a candle to The Hustler. I liked it okay, but I really think The Hustler is one of the greatest movies ever made.

Tyler Foster

I saw them out of order. It Doesn't really take anything away from either one. The time jump in the two movies is so huge that its not like one picks up right where the other left off or anything like that. In fact, the only reason I even checked out The Hustler was because I wanted to see the backstory of Paul Newman's character. So really, The Color of Money is what made me want to watch The Hustler.

Ed R

I saw them out of order also. Didn't take anything away from it for me. The Hustler just helps fill out backstory a little.

Ed R

Moneyball is a good movie, no doubt. I've seen it multiple times. But some of these others are major classics! The Hustler, The Color of Money, Slap Shot. Have people just not seen these movies? Maybe they are more cult classic than I realized. Maybe Slap Shot only appeals to hockey fans? Its like the "Major League" of hockey. Hoosiers too, classic underdog basketball film. Maybe it only appeals to basketball fans?

Ed R

Yes, he is an engineer and he has seen Ford v Ferrari and said it was fantastic! I haven’t seen it though so we’ll add it to our list -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yes

Jonathan Patrick

Moneyball is my personal fave movie of the last 20 or so years. Rudy my all time favorite movie ever. (Along with Rocky series) Could also go under drama.

Jonathan Patrick

That's a good comparison but not exact. I couldn't comment more without spoilers.

Matt O'Keefe

March is right around the corner. Hoosiers should be the leader here, ya bastids. And The Hustler near the bottom? Come on, folks.

Mitchell Smilie

It also has some great recognizable character actors and a few easily recognizable future stars.

Matt O'Keefe

I think it's good, too. I couldn't help but think that Maverick turned into Roy Hobbs in the second Top Gun movie. They both start out trying to be the best in their profession when they are young, but question if that pursuit is so important when they get old.

Erwin Quiachon

Voted for Million Dollar Baby but I so wanted to also vote for "The Hustler". If you ever decide to watch it, please also watch "The Color of Money". It's a great 1-2 punch.

Robert Cintron

Hoosiers is the best basketball movie hands down

James

I'm not a basketball guy, but "Hoosiers" is one of the great modern films. It really must be seen sometime. "Moneyball" is excellent because it's a true story with a fascinating premise and a great cast. "Million Dollar Baby" is A+, but belongs in an Eastwood poll, maybe not a sports poll. I'm an old guy, but I really think the best sports movie ever made (sorry, Rocky) is "The Natural." It's not on the list, but it's a work of art!

William 1611

YES!

Will D

It's a 1984 Baseball movie with Robert Redford. It's directed by Barry Levinson. I think it's great.

Matt O'Keefe

We have not! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Damn, Hoosiers getting no love. Very few reactions out there.

fallingupdownthere

Looks like Million Dollar Baby might finally win.

Tim Raths

North Dallas Forty (1979) would be a good one for reaction.

richard wilkinson

"The Color Of Money" is the sequel to "The Hustler".

Mr. Writhms

You should definitely check out The Wrestler! Gorgeous, intense movie!

Rue

The Natural with Robert Redford.

Alex

The Hustler is what I hope wins

Jason Dolan

Hi Guys - I wouldn't recommend watching Color of Money without seeing The Hustler first, especially if you like your movies, you'd be doing yourself a disservice: The Hustler is an absolute masterpiece. It gives The Color of Money far more gravitas. Is it important to see Hustler first? Yes. The whole point of making The Color of Money to begin with is to see what's become of Paul Newman's character. It's kind of pointless to see Money without seeing The Hustler first because by doing so you see things from an important perspective.

Joe Lazarus

@Jonathan Out of the nominees that year, I definitely would've given it to The Aviator. Then there is Collateral which is one of the most underrated films ever. It didn't even get nominated but if you ask most people now, they'd swap it for MDB.

Shehab Dawoud

Sorry I voted for all lmao they all dope

Tee Grant

Have you seen The Natural?

Matt O'Keefe

Had to vote for Moneyball. I know a lot of people don't like it, and the book did kinda suck, but Brad Pitt is really good and I am actually emotionally invested in the story far more than probably 85% of other sports movies.

Jeffrey Miller

I wanted Rudy and Moneyball, too. But I voted for Million Dollar Baby just to push your buttons.

Erwin Quiachon

Ford v Ferrari should be added! Daniel is an engineer, isn't he? That movie has some fun engineering to nerd over. I'm an engineer, so I can vouch for it.

Erwin Quiachon

Lol really? It’s full of great actors, it’s an amazing script, and an amazing movie. It’s far from an… again? Movie. Be a bummer to hang at home when you guys have the remote.

Jonny Kerr (JK)

Hoosiers all the way. March Madness is coming up.

Mike LL

Ford v Ferrari definitely needs to be a choice next time (would work for either Sports or Drama). It's so well acted and well shot, infinitely rewatchable, and it's the most I've ever liked Christian Bale in any movie.

Paul Cox

It's definitely one of those "Again, how did that win best picture" kind of movie.

Shehab Dawoud

For love of the game

Jay

I wouldn't say they NEED to. I saw TCOM long before The Hustler and it didn't change all that much.

Shehab Dawoud

Rudy or Moneyball

Joshua Rosen

Million Dollar Baby is running away with it!? OMG, nooooooo. I can't believe this audience would do that to them

Joshua Rosen

If you haven't seen it yet, "Kingpin" (1996) would be a good companion to "Searching for Bobby Fischer".

Erwin Quiachon

The hustler and the colour of money double bill ? They go hand in hand and although I doubt either will win they get my vote 👌 I'd definitely recommend the blind side with Sandra bullock and invincible with mark wahlberg

Ian

Some good options there. Here are some other recommendations: Any Given Sunday: Not a great film but a stellar cast, some good performances and one of the greatest speeches you'll ever hear, courtesy of Al Pacino Escape to Victory: A Fútbol movie featuring Stallone, Michael Caine, and... Pelé! (RIP) Jerry Maguire: One of Tom Cruise's best. More on the agency side of things. White Men Can't Jump: Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson as Basketball street hustlers. Ford Vs Ferrari: I'm not a car guy at all, but this emotional film, based on real life, featuring Christian Bale and Matt Damon, deserves a mention. You've probably seen it. Completely missed that you put Warrior on there, but good job. One that needs a view at some point.

Shehab Dawoud

You really need The Longest Yard on this list. The original. Not the Adam Sandler wreck

Smooticus

Thanks. I think I picked all but four of them. Lol

ShadowVessel π

Are you ever going to watch Rocky? Just kidding.

Erwin Quiachon

Both Rudy and Fischer are very well made movies. I enjoy them more when I keep in mind how far from reality they both are.

Erwin Quiachon

Yes, you can choose more than one answer.

Nicotti

If you get a chance to see “Brian’s Song”, the original from 1971, I highly recommend it.

Jeff Mills

Sure. I have no misconceptions about the adaptations. I just freaking love "Searching for Bobby Fischer".

Thomas Yanez

Oh right, duh, sorry, hard to keep track sometimes. 😂 Fixed the og comment.

Nicotti

Bobbie Fischer and Rudy would be a good combo for discussion about the truth v. fiction. Hoosiers wouldn't count because it was always sold as loosely based upon a true story, but may have actually been closer to reality than Fischer and Rudy!

Erwin Quiachon

I'm sure many people will have seen The Color of Money without having seen The Hustler, but The Hustler is one of the greatest movies ever made, and The Color of Money is a direct sequel with Paul Newman reprising his role, so I highly recommend seeing it first.

Tyler Foster

There is competition, so I'm okay with the category. I just hope you don't limit this movie to just "sports". It could go into any drama poll.

Thomas Yanez

Field of Dreams is already up on the channel! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Does it still count if I pick more than one? You can watch The Color of Money without seeing The Hustler first

ShadowVessel π

Tin Cup

Nicotti

From the recommendation, it sounded like it was pushing it to consider it a Sports Film, but that's okay! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Moneyball was written by Aaron Sorkin (A Few Good Men) You guys would love it imo

f hf

Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, RUDY...

Brandon Royce

I laughed when I saw "Searching for Bobby Fischer" in with the others listed, but oh my god, I wish you would watch that movie.

Thomas Yanez

The Color of Money is a sequel to The Hustler. You need to watch The Hustler first.

Tyler Foster
