Romeo Must Die is great. "They tell me you're a nice guy." "I am!" Jet Li is probably the best martial arts star ever next to Bruce Lee. But people need to realize that people like Jet Li are not martial artists in the same way that Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris were martial artists. Wushu is 100% pure sport. But pretty much 99% of all kung fu movies the actors are doing contemporary Wushu. Also I hope they watch Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior. No wires, no special effects. Everything you see no matter how gravity defying is 100% real done by Tony Jaa. No stunt doubles either (at least not for Tony Jaa).

Alex

Highway to the Danger Zone! Finally!

Popcorn Roulette

Hopefully TBR watches some Jet Li movies also, Romeo Must Die, Kiss of the dragon, and Unleashed are some of my faves, but i also like the "once upon a time in china" series

Edgar Gonzalez

yeah its great!

Lethal Weapon 4, Top Gun and episode 5 of the Last of Us? Love it!

Marcio T

Good to know, Sam. I think you and Daniel will enjoy the funny reference to it that is upcoming!

Marcus Cato

Cool! Thanks for all the great content you two put out!

Nismo

Cool!!!

Brent

Yes! I scheduled it for the following month so that puts it in April! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yes, both! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

We haven't seen Maverick yet! We'll be watching both! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

It's coming! Hopefully will be posted this coming weekend! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I cannot wait for Lethal Weapon 4. I think it is a great conclusion to the series, and I honestly hope they don't make another, but I will certainly watch it if they do.

Vwlss Nvwls

I was kind of wondering about too.

Tim Raths

I agree with you, except I think Cooper would enjoy that analogy more, and would most likely watch Top gun before watching Maverick, just for the dog food. jk

Guston Zimasheen

They should watch Citizen Kane regardless, before or after. I would love to see them react to Citizen Kane. Haven't watched the Sopranos, but if the spoiler is what I think it is, knowing that reveal doesn't really spoil the movie , IMHO anyway.

Samolina Pilchard

Got some good films coming up! Also, any update on the Q&A you mentioned in January?

Nismo

Maverick as a cross between Chuck Yeager and Roy Hobbs is a whole lot more fascinating than who he was in Top Gun.

Erwin Quiachon

Ho-lee shit! Lethal Weapon 4 AND Top Gun? Gonna be a great week, Tater 🤘

ShadowVessel π

Can't wait to see your reaction to Top Gun!

Mark M

I wish they had made a movie about Ice being in command of the Pacific Fleet a few years after 9/11, before Val Kilmer got sick.

Erwin Quiachon

I'm remember all the crap that Tom Cruise got for being in Top Gun and a bunch of critics saying that "Born On The Fourth of July" (1989) was his apology. His second apology for Top Gun would be Maverick.

Erwin Quiachon

Wait, you haven't seen Top Gun? Maverick is even better

Odd Thomas

Relieved to see a bunch of people here hold Top Gun in low esteem too. Friends on Facebook looked at me like I had three heads last summer when I said it was a terrible movie. I guess watching the original is like test prep for a YouTube channel when Maverick is the final exam.

Paul Cox

Top Gun was a great film in its own right, but Top Gun Maverick in on another level, especially compared to some of the more modern Hollywoke films.

David Crabtree

I hope you guys haven't seen MAVERICK yet. Watching the original TOP GUN after watching MAVERICK is like eating dog food after eating a finely cooked steak. I think the only benefit is that you get to see how much Mav has learned and matured in life.

Philip Davetas

Yay !! Lethal Weapon 4 had such a Perfect Ending for the whole Franchise !!! Love it!! Top Gun is also Great !! When is Dirty Harry 4 - Sudden Impact Coming? Can't Wait;)

Florian Meier

They haven't seen THE NATURAL yet? I've watched both versions. I like the director's cut, but I think it slows a lot of things down. It's an odd mixture of sports, film noir and Knights of the Round Table metaphor. That's like a must watch. THE RIGHT STUFF is a great flick as well.

Philip Davetas

If still plan on watching Maverick, "The Right Stuff" (1983) and "The Natural" (1984) might enhance the experience if you watch those first.

Erwin Quiachon

In case you have not seen Citizen Kane, you may want to watch it, even if not for the channel, before you watch Sopranos episode 2 of season 5. That episode drops a major spoiler that impacts the entire movie. Citizen Kane revolves around solving a mystery and episode 2 reveals the whole thing.

Marcus Cato

Take it easy.

Erwin Quiachon

I don't mean to rub it in, but you really should've watched Top Gun a long time ago. Like some of the others, I don't think it's that good of a film, but Top Gun: Maverick is freaking awesome and is one of those films that just need to be watched on the big screen.

Shehab Dawoud

You sent spoilers? Why would you do that??

David Crabtree

Also Gen X here. Although I thought Top Gun has some solid action scenes, it's still really silly.

Marcus Cato

Lethal Weapon 4 AND Top Gun? Let's go! The only thing on there I have no interest in is Last of us.

David Crabtree

His best imo

Jonathan Patrick

Last Samurai is one of my all time favorite Cruise movies. Friggin' beautiful.

EdmanXERO

Been waiting for this one, especially Lethal Weapon 4. It's gonna be intense!

EdmanXERO

Woo! Lethal weapon and Top gun! So hyped!!! Oh and I was curious since the poll just closed if you guys would also be doing Seven Samurai? I saw that is was crazy close. Either way still excited for everything coming up!!!

Brent

Top Gun was the perfect 80's date movie. Unfortunately, it was also our generation's fantasy of what real combat would be. Maverick does a good job of correcting that fantasy with the toll that over 30 years of real combat has had on our generation. It's not the punch in the face that The Deer Hunter was for Vietnam, but it has it's own gentle way of handling PTSD and survivor's remorse.

Erwin Quiachon

Yeah, I liked Maverick ok. It's a cohesive film with relatable characters. The original is an 8 year old boy's fighter jet fever dream with a love story that doesn't work at all.

Paul Cox

Yay! Lethal Weapon 4! And Top Gun. Will you guys also be watching Maverick as well? I haven't seen it and haven't seen Top Gun since I was a kid.

Alex

I'm Gen X and I hated Top Gun, too. That's why I was so relieved that Maverick was such a strong correction. I hated Top Gun because it was a John Wayne movie for our generation. The sad irony is our generation got more real life combat than John Wayne could have ever wanted.

Erwin Quiachon

I didn't like the original movie. But I was convinced to see "Maverick" and I enjoyed it. I thought it was more of the same without the 80s cheesiness. I thought Tom Cruises' character acted more like a real person in the sequel, rather than an 80s caricature. And the aerial battle scenes were way better. I have nothing against cheese but the 80s Top Gun was a little too corny for me. LOL

Mr. Writhms

Hopefully all those spoilers I sent you about Maverick will finally make some sense!

Erwin Quiachon

I found out in the middle of the Maverickaissance last year that I might be the only Gen xer who thinks Top Gun is bad. I thought there were more of us! 🤪

Paul Cox

Tom Cruise films Born on the 4th of July (true story) Jerry Maguire Interview with the Vampire Magnolia Vanilla Sky War of the World's The Last Samurai

Finally! I've been feeling the need for speed forever!
