The Last of Us Season 1 Episode 3 'Long, Long Time' Full TV Reaction!!

Comments

If you all want to do a double-feature to get caught up with the broadcast episodes, I’ll tell you Episodes 4 and 5 make for a great two-parter. Ep4 feels a little lacking on its own, but coupled as a setup for Ep5 it’s awesome.

Nick of Time

This is my third viewing of this episode and it still got me. When Max Richter starts up, it's all over

Odd Thomas

I've been holding off from watching this, because I sorta wanted to binge watch it in one go, but now it's 5 episodes in already, so I might get started watching tonight. Not sure if I'm ready for the emotional rollercoaster.

Guston Zimasheen

Yeah, Bill standing out there like he was the terminator with a bolt action rifle no less was silly because he obviously didn't have a death wish considering things were good with Frank and you know that guy would probably have at least a couple AR or similar semi-auto rifles. As far as the ammo for Joel's riffle, I think after 20 years almost any stockpiles have long been scavenged. Also, it's been 20 years since ammunition was produced commercially and I would assume that the vast majority of ammo is made for government purposes at this point. Heck, I could imagine a semi-auto rifle would cost a fortune and the ammo would also cost a ton considering there's probably next to nothing available to scavenge anymore and you'd probably have to get it black market from FEDRA supplies. Again, I want more world building. I want to see how the economy works and such.

Jeffrey Miller

Let me preface my comments by saying that episode 3 was incredible. I know a lot of idiots were upset about the homosexual relationship but forget them. What I'm upset about is: 1. Joel saying "ammo will be hard to find for this" as he caches the rifle. Are you kidding!? It was most likely a .223 which would be a ubiquitous round across USA. The only round that would be easier to find would be 9mm. 2. Bill standing outside with no cover or concealment shooting at marauders. No way someone like him would do that. Other than that...and why did no one warn me to have a box of tissues?

It's been long time since I played the game on the PS3, but I do remember the basic plot of each "level". I don't understand why some people are really insistent that an adaption stay as close to the source material as possible. To me, there are a small number of people who don't understand that movies and games are completely different mediums and what goes for one might not work at all for the other. From what I can remember the Bill and Frank "level" is you ran around avoiding and disarming traps and you meet up with Bill who helps you get a truck so you can go to Wyoming. I'll try to avoid spoilers, but let's just say, the final outcome of these events are not radically different from the television episode. Video games are by their nature repetitive to some degree. You learn the mechanics and then you figure out the "gameplay loop". In film, you can't have that repetition so you should shorthand the important stuff and I think this episode did a great job. The big difference is you see Bill and Frank's relationship over time and it's much more explicit about the nature of their relationship. In the game, you only get details about their relationship secondhand so right off the bat, great idea to make that the plot of the episode. The episode also includes a couple of the motifs from the game such as Bill's traps and focus on self-reliance, but it also explains why Joel and Tess knew who they were. To me, changes to source material can be good or bad. They can be better or worse than the original material or they can be good in different ways, but obviously changes are not bad by default.

Jeffrey Miller

I'm a little surprised they decided to do such a large departure from the game for this episode, but I think they did a really great job with it. Not to go into too much detail in case anyone wants to play the game and hasn't, but in the game, Joel and Ellie meet up with Bill and you get to spend about a day together. The relationship Ellie has with Bill is fantastic and quite comical and so I was looking forward to seeing that play out here but they decided to take some liberty and go a different direction. I am happy that they took it in the direction they did though. Seeing Bill and Frank's relationship develop was such a beautiful thing and is something you don't see in the game at all. The most you get in the game is that they were together for some time. Looking forward to episode four and seeing how they adapt the next section of the game into the next episode!

Yeah, I love those world building flashbacks and even Joel talking about the "best guess" as to how the outbreak started.

Jeffrey Miller

Oh, my God, this has been my favorite episode so far. The last twenty, thirty minutes I was in tears. It was funny, I’m sniffling, and then I hear this sniffling and look down at my iPad and hear you and Daniel sniffling. Just a beautifully done episode. I love how they are going back in time and explaining things through out the episodes rather than doing it all linear. I think it makes the show more compelling. Great reaction, you guys. From here on out, I think I will have my box of tissues handy when I watch this show. And to use a Linda Ronstadt song, who has one of the most beautiful voices on the planet, was priceless.

Robert Boyd

What a great episode and definitely worth the wait this really hits you in the feels .knowing that Joel's daughter dies I was prepared for episode one but had no clue regarding these two characters and yeah it was heartbreaking but at least they lived their best years together. I was never scared until you came along is such a great line 👌 bill literally was bert from tremors 😃 . Loving this show and loving your reactions guys can't wait for the next one

Ian

I've been waiting to do my rewatch of this episode with you guys - buckling up!

Jason Dolan

Damn, I knew it was going to be sad, but I was a complete mess for that last act. It reminds me of something I heard. I can't remember where it came from for the life of me no matter how I search it, but it basically is "The saddest thing is a happy married couple because someone has to die first." which Bill decided not to deal with that which is completely understandable. I like the main plot of course, but damn do I want more world building. I like the flashbacks showing the history and lore of the world. I like Joel talking about how they think the infection started. I need more of that stuff. Even when Frank and Bill talk about finding a doctor it makes me wonder what the extent of medicine is at that point. If there are treatments for things like cancer, how is it rationed? I'm a nerd like that.

Jeffrey Miller

This might be the only "happy" ending we'll ever get with this show. lol I say happy in quotes because of the circumstances with the crushed pills, but it was beautiful for Bill to honor Frank's final wishes for one "last good day" together. This, in my opinion, is one of the best episodes; not just for this show, but in television, period.

EdmanXERO

The entire time I was watching this when it originally aired, I kept thinking about how much Sam was going to cry. Thanks for the great reaction, guys.

Jen Barnes

Great reaction to a terrific episode. I had already watched this episode and was touched by it's beauty and sadness. I gotta admit though, Sam's response to the couch scene wrecked me. Lol I guess I've got to turn in my man card.

Paul Spacone

Yeah, it's been a long, long time. ... I'll see myself out now.

EdmanXERO

well in the game they actually interact with Joel and Ellie, so I think the gamers were hoping to see that, but this alternative was different but great. I personally am glad we have both. It feels like a what if

Terry Lee

I'm really liking watching this series along with you guys. I heard some negative buzz about changes to the Joel character, but I don't remember the game well enough from ten years ago to notice or care. It's a good show so far.

Tostito Buddy

This episode is so beautifully bittersweet and hard to watch emotionally, the feels man, the feels…

Terry Lee

Woohoo!!! Finally omg it feels like forever since episode two lol good thing is episode four is already out and episode five drops tonight, been loving this series and loving your guys reaction! 🙏
