The Sopranos Season 4 Episode 2 'No-Show' Full TV Reaction!!

Comments

I knew that was coming up soon but couldn’t remember which episode. 😂

Tim Raths

Daniel's crush on Furio has replaced his bloodlust for Livia as the best part of these reactions.

Tostito Buddy

It's so funny the way Daniel's face lights up when Furio shows up at the house. Carmela is fixing her hair, and Daniel adjusts his glasses. The bromance is real. Haha.

Michael Chavira

Wait Sam has never watched ELR?!?! 😲😯😲 👀 Oh wow idk if this is something you wanna invest your time in later on sometime in the future but I know a lot of people would enjoy a reaction to that sitcom lol just a thought 🤔😊 it'll be worth it IMO 😊

dieselbeast

HA! 😂

JG

Gandolfini picks up a no-show job. In this case real life imitates art. 😂

Marcus Cato

I feel like 5, 6 and 7 are all lighter than season 4

Kevin Charley

u guys should watch nightmare on elm st 3 nancys back

Bret Alleman

Bobby is probably the nicest mobster you will ever meet lol

Not relevant to these episodes, but I wanted to share this fun little fact... In 2011, James Gandolfini was set to become Steve Carell's replacement in The Office. NBC offered him up to $4 million to star in 1 season, but HBO was afraid the legacy of The Sopranos would suffer if the guy who played Tony starred in a comedy series. HBO quickly stepped in and gave him a counter offer of $3 million NOT to do The Office, and he accepted the deal! Easy money!...😂

Great reaction, and good for you guys noticing the darkening tonal shifts already bubbling up in these episodes. I could write an essay about every episode (and some of my fellow patrons might argue I already do), but I just wanted to explain why I think Silvio told Patsy to boost the floor tiles when he knew full well Tony said not to. It’s not primarily about the money (though, with these guys, it’s always at least partly about the money) but rather resentment over losing power and prestige. Sil is Tony’s consiglieri, a don’s most important adviser and above everyone in the family except the don, and he sees Tony relying increasingly on Chrissy as well as giving the kid more and more responsibility. Tony explains why he’s doing this to Melfi, but it rubs Sil wrong because it makes him feel less important. And, back to the money aspect, aside from the Bing, Sil doesn’t seem to have much going on business wise, at least compared to some of the other senior made guys. I’ve said before, just about every character on the show doesn’t just resent not having what they think they deserve, they resent anyone else for having whatever it is they might have. Just a note on the shrink Melfi recommended for Meadow: ICK! This is why I say Melfi’s a good person, but can be an iffy therapist. Sending Carmela to Dr Krakower was one thing, but this Doctor Wendy was a real kook and exactly the type who gives psychiatrists and therapy a bad name in many circles. I even hated the way she called Carmela and Tony “Mom” and “Dad”, instead of your mother and your father, and Jackie Jr “Jack”. Yuck, yuck, yuck!

The Weight was certainly one of the best episodes of the Sopranos.

You’re right about the episodes being “slow” in the sense that the show isn’t in a hurry to tell a story about it’s characters. Where as season 3 moved at light speed and had many explosive moments, season 4 takes its time; it’s more character-driven, introspective, and gloomier than previous seasons. By now we know these characters very well, so the show just drops us in to hang out with them. They don’t have to be shooting any one, it’s entertaining enough just to see them argue over who owes who mooney. This season is so great because we’re seeing more of who these people are than we ever had. Some people don’t like the new direction but in my opinion this is the most rewatchable season. Every episode is its own story. I love Adriana but she really isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. I liked that they’re doing more with her character. And like you’ve already noticed there’s more of Bobby. I think it took the show a while to decide what to do with him. He’s moving up in the crew and in the show. Janice is reading The Origin of Satan while in bed with Ralph. This isn’t the first time he gets associated with the devil. I’m glad you guys like this season so far. Episodes 3 & 4 are a bizarre combination for reasons you’ll find out soon. Episode 4 is one of my favorites in the show. It’s sooooo good and I know you’ll love it too.

Season 4 has some explosive episodes, but fewer than all other seasons. This is the "slow-burner" season. Dark, intimate, and intense, and a bridge between the lighter first 3 seasons and the darker final act of seasons 5 and 6. I love this season, in a different way to all the others. Season 4, on average, has the longest episodes of any season, and you can feel it. Cannot wait to continue!

Future Boy

The tone of the show has definitely gotten darker this season. Most characters seem pretty miserable. Except Janice and Ralphie which is another match made in Hell. As a mental health counselor I can tell you that Meadow's therapist really wasn't using best practices to say the least. As therapists, we are told and we tell clients that our job isn't to tell you what to do. We can help you examine the pros and cons of different options, but therapists shouldn't be giving that kind of advice. Also, a therapist offering to write a letter of recommendation to a university for a client she literally just met is really unethical and also really dumb. As far as Meadow telling the therapist what her dad does wouldn't be a problem as it would be considered confidential, however this therapist seems to be pretty fast and loose with the rules, so yeah. I like how Bobby got promoted even though he's not known as an enforcer type or a big earner. He's just really loyal and I think he does take his responsibilities seriously. I kind of feel like Christopher killing the guy who allegedly killed his dad was purposely underwhelming. He was happy for like a day, but I think the reality is that he probably has very few if any real memories of his dad so his emotional attachment to him is basically secondhand. Did killing that guy really change his life? Did it really make him feel any better? I want to think David Chase intended the murder to be very similar to all the ones we've already seen. You can really tell how much weigh James Gandolfini was putting on during the series which sucks considering how he passed away.

This and season 5 are my favorite seasons. Funny tho cause when I was a kid I only had season 3 on VHS box set. 😆 Episode 3 is one of my favorites this season. Great episodes coming up! Just wait.

Ghost Crusaders

You guys catch a lot of stuff that people miss, including stuff that I didn't think was significant when first watching the show. Always grateful for your reactions and commentary. Side note: I knew there was a pretty epic vomit scene on the way and was even tempted to warn you, but i suppose that could be considered spoiler-adjacent. 😂

The first episode starts the second half, the dark one, of Sopranos. 9/11 cursed the show, the nearly sitcom sunny vibe of the first 3 seasons are over, and so are the good times - personally and financially. No Show might appear a mere transitional episode but scene by scene is simply perfection. The darkness that would consume the show in season 5 and especially in season 6 starts subtly to take over, very slowly. This is not an episode of death and destruction, but of slow decadence, people in difficult moment in their lives. Especially Tony's daughter and "son" - Meadow and Christopher. Meadow is using Jackie Jr death as an excuse to her indulgences and laziness - but nothing is black and white on this show, I think she is also really depressed. We all have that moment in our lives in the early 20s where we are completely lost. Tony and Carmella struggle to help her come with scene after scene of perfect acting from the three. Christopher is struggling at work, being misinformed by Tony about his duties and then unfairly criticized. He continues his downward spiral with drugs. Janice continues a relationship with Ralph. Everyone's decadence is clearly visible. The final scene in the bathroom is pure perfection. Carmela in the bathtub feeling she failed her daughter - she can barely talk. Even Tony feels bad for her. The part that bothered me the most in this episode is when Danielle Ciccollela (FBI agent) is introduced in the Soprano household and is pretty much offered a chance to sit down at TONY SOPRANOS dinner table. She should’ve pushed a little harder and sat down for a bite to eat (WITH THE BOSS) which wouldn’t have been that difficult to do with Ades' naivety..you can pretty much steer her in any direction that you desire. Adriana is screwed with the feds and she feels betrayed. She is too innocent for this world.

Don't threaten to call the cops on mob guys.

Kevin Charley

More great stuff, and I’m already done! Next episodes, please. 😶
