The Sopranos Season 3 Episode 13 'Army of One' Full TV Reaction!!

i second this. I like the Sopranos more, but that doesn't mean the Wire is worse. I think they're equivalent, i just have an attachment to the Sopranos.

Armchair Wizard

Definitely high up on our list! -Sam

I believe we did touch on the influence of the adults around Jackie Jr., but I still think he is to blame for the botched robbery, which got his friends killed, his mafia family injured and ultimately lead to his death -Sam

Very interesting! I always love when we get comments like this with more thoughts from the creators :) Ooh we were wondering where 9/11 was going to end up in terms of the timing of the seasons. Should be interesting! I am very excited to get into Season 4! -Sam

I agree that I think Meadow is still trying to figure out this lifestyle, she's certainly not perfect, but yeah, she didn't choose to be a part of it :( Makes sense with Jackie Jr, since I think most people did believe it, especially if they kept their robbery gone bad a secret from the public. -Sam

Ah! Small potatoes :) -Sam

Totally agree! And love the Bronx Tale reference! -Sam

It's easy to blame Jackie Jr. and he is definitely a world-class stunad, but it's easy to overlook the role the adults played in his life. Telling a mafia child that you want them to go straight, work several times harder and get a fraction of the money is bound to screw with someone's head.

David Chase commented on the bizarre choice of music at the end in an interview: "That singing thing is about how all over the world people engage in pure sentimentality. Everyone loves a good cry. And I don’t mean to denigrate funerals or death. It also has something to do with entertainment, filmed entertainment. Music can be used so manipulatively. And Junior, who is the most selfish character in the cast, is pouring his heart out. Didn’t mean a thing. Just to wallow in the moment…Pop music is so abused and overused, manipulated and employed in the service of the devil. It was to give the audience a laugh about how they are being manipulated everyday" There's definitely an undercurrent of indulgence amongst everyone in the last scene. We have some of the most cruel, callous, hypocritical individuals tearing up at a beautiful song, completely lacking any self awareness. Meadow can't stomach it and lashes out. Season 4 is the first post-9/11 season, and you'll see soon enough that we're entering a new era of The Sopranos. Imo, seasons 4-6 are even stronger than seasons 1-3 and you already know how good they were. I'm really looking forward to seeing your reactions for this next season. There's plenty more of Ralphie haha

i'd cut meadow some slack. she's a kid that didn't choose this life and is figuring out how to navigate a really really tough and painful situation.

Meadow is annoying. She wants to be the loyal mafia daughter with other people, but gets mad at her parents for being a mafia family. She hasn't accepted the fact that a lot of people she cares about have a much higher likelihood of being killed or imprisoned than someone outside of "the family". I suspect the reason they put a "zero" in front of the time is to avoid confusion similar to how they use a phonetic alphabet (alpha, bravo, charlie, etc). For example easily distinguishing between "zero six hundred hours and sixteen hundred hours). I think the reason Jackie Jr wasn't "disappeared" was to give his mom closure, but also because they didn't need to. Unlike Pussy, Jackie wasn't on the cops' radar so dying in a drug deal is a believable story to them. I know I could lose some weight myself, but how the hell does a giant white guy in a black neighborhood sneak up on you like that? Vito must have had a Stealth Boy or something.

The arrests at the funeral had nothing to do with the FBI. They were just local cops arresting the guys for promoting gambling.

Great stuff from Meadow in this one. I love how she denies that Jackie Sr and her father are gangsters, yet scolds Jackie’s sister, Kelli, for talking about things in front of “outsiders”. And by outsiders, she’s referring to cousin Mackenzie! If the cousin’s an outsider, Mead, your old man really isn’t just in waste management. Tony tells Melfi he wants Meadow far away from him, but she sure seems to have come to peace with her Dad after a year or so of alienation. I’ve mentioned it in the past, but I think Meadow’s beginning to realize she’s more comfortable in the world in which she grew up than in the regular world. Tony said his thing isn’t for AJ, and it certainly isn’t, but if Meadow were a dude, she’d be a future boss—smart, cunning, cruel (her mom nicknamed her the “Queen of Mean"), and capable of the self-delusion that would be required. Bye bye, Jackie Jr, you entitled little twerp. Great turnout for the wake and the funeral. It’s like Sonny says in “A Bronx Tale”, Nobody cares. Nobody cares.

Tony told Meadow..."You're more like me than you know."
