My favourite movie from the franchise, and George Harrison playing it out at the end there. What's not to like?

Man, Ithought Leo Gets was in the third movie. I haven't watched this movie since the 90s.

one of the all time great sequels, 3 onwards though are very weak imo

Great reactions Sam and Dan! Unfortunately, unlike y'all, I don't like it when a movie (which isn't primarily a comedy) leans too far into the comedy. Thus, I'm not really thrilled with the two sequels from here on. They're just kind of "meh" for me and I end up groaning at most of the attempts at humor.
I think it comes down to always trying to "one-up" the previous movie while still trying to maintain the fondness we all have for the previous movies. I think it's that way no matter the genre. Look at what followed the Terminator, Die Hard, and Alien movies. Same with the Major League franchise. The final movie in that franchise is virtually unwatchable.
On other notes: Did you know that Shane Black was Hawkins (the first guy the Predator kills) in "Predator" (1987)? Also, the woman who plays Collins in this film also played Vasquez in "Aliens" (1986) and John Connors foster mother in "T2: Judgement Day" (1991).

Loved this reaction! Lethal Weapon 2 is my least favorite of the series, but I think they're all great! I'm excited for your Lethal Weapon 3 reaction, which is my favorite of these films(followed by 4).

An unfortunate (and unavoidable) fact is you know there are two more movies, and you’re used to movie series having lots of sequels. Back then, we didn’t know, and seldom got more than a single sequel, so the audience really thought they might end it with Riggs dying. Oh well, can’t ever fully recapture the 80s…if we could, I’d never come back. 😁

If I had to I'd say the first two films belong in the great/classic category while 3 and 4 belong in the good/watchable category. 3 and 4 are definitely not bad films but by the time you get to 3 you do get that sense that they had no higher to go after LW2. They tried to do the best they could with LW3 but the laughs and the action is still there and the chemistry between Gibson and Glover never waivers so keep going with the sequels, y'all will still have fun.

Yeah, the villain in the third one is the one thing that always disappointed me about the third film. I think they were too focused on the gun violence angle, and fell short on writing compelling villain. Luckily he is not in it that much, so the movie is still enjoyable watching the antics and growth of the main characters.

I love the new character in 3. They’re my favorite in the franchise!

Which is sad, because they each include at least one scene that should've been left in.
When Murtaugh meets Riggs he keeps asking if he's never killed anybody, even though he only kills one of the guys at the the tree farm. The scene where he takes out the school yard sniper helps explain that.
In 2, Riggs kind of goes for Rika out of the blue, but there's a scene where he's flirting with a couple of women earlier and Murtaugh talks about how he's coming out of his shell.
I won't mention 3 here because they haven't seen it yet, but there's a scene that shows us a missing character from the first two movies.
They may not be Donner approved, but they're definitely fan approved. 🤷🏻♂️

I'll break from the other comments and say that 3 is the weakest one (the bad guy stinks), but still fine (the new main character -- I won't spoil it -- is a delight). 4 is clearly a victory lap and some of the violent edge is muted, but it's a fun movie. I like Live Free or Die Hard, but I would say Lethal Weapon 4 is a better Lethal Weapon than LFoDH was a Die Hard movie, and since you also liked LFoDH, I don't think you'll have any complaints about LW4.

Worth noting that Richard Donner was not actually involved in the cuts referred to as "director's cuts," and in fact when it came time to do the Lethal Weapon Blu-ray box set with the bonus disc, his stipulation on participating in the extras was that those cuts not be included, even as extras.

You're sorta right. Opinions vary. But I think for me, once the relationships are established all I care about is the family. It's not a great story, but I really care about is the core folks.

Have to disagree...they are all good, but I think the series was best with LW2.
LW3 was pretty good, but a step backwards. LW4 was my least favorite in the series. Still a good movie, just not as good as the others.

The South Africans kept calling Murtaugh a Kafir which is a derogative term for black African. That is why Murtaugh said at the end that the South Africans had been de-Kafirnated which is a play on decaffeinated.

Here's the thing with the Lethal Weapon franchise - the first two are near perfect and then there are diminishing returns for 3&4 which start to become the buddy cop comedies you were expecting from the first LW. These are the two darkest entries, but the next two are still relatively violent but lean much further into the funny.

I cannot wait for Lethal Weapon 3. They just get better and better each movie. Also, there is an end credit scene on 3, just fyi. Also, I recommend the extended version on Amazon, because there are a couple scenes that really help build Murtaugh's character and what he is going thru.

You guys had it easy with this ending. Seeing this in the theater there was no third movie, so Riggs easily could have been dead.

Somewhere out there is a funny behind the scenes video that Mel Gibson did. I saw it on HBO or Showtime, and it was hilarious. I wish I could find it again, or they put it on a Blue Ray or something.

When I saw this in the theater, the scene when Riggs is wandering back and forth with Ricca's body, some guy in the theater got the whole place laughing because he started singing "Rag Doll" by Aerosmith. :D

Yep. Just watched it. A great god damn flick. Small things like having Mrs. Murtaugh doing Riggs' laundry always gets me. Not a major plot point, but it's really about the small things that builds the family. And it continues. A lot more to come. And YES, continue!

The house on stilts coming down is one of the most satisfying moments on the screen ever. And also I can't leave here without pointing out that one of the missions in GTA5 is a homage to this where you actually have to go to the stilt house and do exactly what Riggs did in the movie.
And yeah Leo is a great addition and you guys are gonna love it all the sequels because they keep the comedy factor in.

In the original script Riggs dies but they reshot it so he lives - the last shot is actually him lying dead in the original version but you hear him and Murtagh bantering so you don't notice he's not moving

It’s funny that you say that about Joe Pescis comedic timing. I didn’t know this for a long time but before he was an actor he was in a stand up comedy troupe with frank vincent, billy bats from goodfellas and frank Marino from casino which is why they are always together. So he’s a natural comedian. Also you’ll be seeing frank Vincent soon again on the channel.

I gotta recommend the action film Above The Law (1989) W Steven Seagal and Pam Grier (Jackie Brown). Directed by same guy who did The Fugitive. Great martial arts/action film
