The Sopranos Season 3 Episode 8 'He Is Risen' Full TV Reaction!!

The Sopranos Season 3 Episode 8 'He Is Risen' Full TV Reaction!!

Comments

The scene with the older therapist is one of my favorites. It is a key moment, I think, for all the of the family characters. The therapist mentions with what seems to be some regret, that the field of psychiatry had declined. Many of the older characters (Tony's Mom, Uncle, etc) think that psychiatrists are shifting blame for individuals' choices to root problems. Rather than focusing on their moral failures and decisions, they are finding reasons why the patient is not at fault....looking to blame others and using pharmaceuticals to handle many emotional problems. Carmela tries to shift attention away from her own sacrifices she must make, if she truly loves her children and Tony, more than the wealth and options that enabling Tony brings her. The therapist can see through the lies she tells herself, and lets her know that from here on out, she can't say somebody didn't spell out what the moral decision to make was. She turns it down and pushes Tony to engage in even more corrupt behavior, showing that she is completely and willingly making her choice. The future of the kids, herself, and maybe even Tony are changed by that decision.

Annabella Sciorra is an incredible actress and she is a POWERHOUSE in the Sopranos. I hate that her both her life and career were upended by Harvey Weinstein.

Elisa Pfau

Good call. Can't wait

Dominic Matich

Just to let you know about Paulie and the fish -- He WASN'T there when Tony flipped out and he isn't setting up Chris with that. Everything else you were right about but he genuinely is NOT trying to set up Chris

Dominic Matich

Yes react to it. It's pretty fun

Mr. Chumpus

I just re-watched all the episodes today. I really like it. It's a cross between Sopranos and Yellowstone. Same creator as Yellowstone. Stallone is pretty funny, and it's his first TV show

Mr. Chumpus

ooooooo ur getting close to Pine Barrens....excited to watch you guys watch one of the greatest episodes in the entire series.

Ghost Crusaders

I can see all of your points in this comment! I’m very interested to see where things are going to go with Jackie jr. -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yikes! I’m glad that was confirmed. After that “talk” and car smash, I wonder if this will be the last of it from Angie! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yes!! We did not put this together but this completely makes sense! She had to have known what she was doing -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Thank you! Yes, the quiet episodes can be some of the best and much needed between some of the crazier ones! Haha oh no! Well we are very excited! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha trying to get it all done! Thank you for the recommendation! I think this is the first newly made guy we’ve seen on the show, but that makes sense! -sam

TBR Schmitt

Ooh love that! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

We haven’t started it yet! Undecided if we’ll get it up on the channel or watch on our own 😊 have you liked the series? -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Never thought of that!. We've seen from dinner party scenes that she has quite a few therapist colleagues. but she sent Carm to this specific doctor. she definitely knew what he was doing.

Carlos Hurtado

Oh, PastaDon, you are so right. Melfi knew exactly what she was doing.

Jackie Jr is the worst. Maybe I’m hard on him because I’v known so many Jackie Jr types over the years, but the kid’s a total strunz. A spoiled, entitled brat, incessantly coddled by his mother. Quits Pre Med because it’s hard, then quits school entirely because it’s hard (BTW, its Rutgers—it ain’t that hard) and starts selling Ecstasy instead. The best thing you could say about him is that he’s not quite a date rapist. Ugh, I hate that Momo. I love Junior’s counsel to Tony about being boss and to find his pleasures where he can. It’s good advice, but now that Livia’s gone, Junior’s the biggest misirab' in North Jersey. I mean, he’s a made guy for like 40 ears and has never been married or had any kids so he’s sitting on a huge pile of dough, but look at that depressing, little house in Belleville(1) he mopes around in. He probably bought it in 1967 and hasn’t put a penny into it since just because he’s so friggin’ cheap and it pains him to spend money like he’s passing a stone. Great, funny throwaways from these episodes: “Some pulp, not mostly pulp!” Johnny Sack after his wife, Ginny, leaves for physical therapy: “Poor thing. She was a real hoofer, in her day, but it’s hard on the joints.” (Yeah, John, the dancing is what’s hard on Ginny’s joints); Junior: “John Kennedy, he was older than me, and look at him now”. Janice: “Narcolepsy is an AMA recognized dyssomnia.” In reference to the late Don Simpson, the legendary partner of Uber producer Jerry Bruckheimer and now way involved with the yellow denizens of Springfield USA: “Elvis died on the toilet. Don, the producer of ‘The Simpsons’, too.”

Another perfect song choice to end an episode. The episode before it also had a perfect choice, with Nils Lofgren singing Black Books. No other show has introduced me to so much great music.

Future Boy

In regards to Angie, she was definitely lying about her dog’s health issues in the hopes that Tony would give her more money. A common trait that you’ll discover with the characters in this show is that ultimately, everyone is out for themselves.

JG

That's a great point that had not occurred to me.

I think something that tends to get overlooked in ep. 7 is that when Dr. Melfi gave Carmela the referral to this other therapist.. sorry can't remember his name "Krakow" I think.. She said he was a former teacher of hers.. I mean, she could've referred a dozen other colleagues but she knew full well what kind of therapist he is and how blunt he is.. in other words she's trying to tell Carmela how she really feels about her situation with Tony.. without actually telling her..

PastaDon

Love this song.. play it on long trips.. have had it on my playlist ever since hearing it on this ep.

PastaDon

Man, one of my Top 3 is coming up week after next. 🤣🤣🤣

Donna Castellano

Huh? No what? I was asking Sam a question, it wasn't a survey

Mr. Chumpus

No!

SGato!

I love Annabella Sciorra. I wish she was in more stuff. She's been on this channel before, in Cop Land. I also really like her in The Hand that Rocks the Cradle (1992).

Future Boy

Great episodes, great reactions. I think I love these 'quiet" episodes of The Sopranos even more than I love the crazy ones. I just love hanging out with these characters. I am almost unbearably impatient to continue this season with you guys. The last few episodes of this season are something else.

Future Boy

Alright! I’m glad you didn’t wait until the movies were caught up! Already down and done, and looking forward to 9 & 10. Don’t you just love people like me? 😶 The actress (Annabella Sciorra) who plays the Mercedes salesperson has been in a lot of movies. One that I recommend is ‘Romeo Is Bleeding’ from 1993. It’s a very good noire-ish corrupt cop story set in the 80’s or 90’s. She has a major role opposite Gary Oldman. Also…it was mentioned that Christopher seemed to be getting abused by Paulie. It’s part of the initiation process for newly made guys. The lowest guy on the totem pole has a rough way to go for the first couple of years.

David Wilkins

Always a special episode for us Aussies with our very own Kasey Chambers supplying the end credits song.

David Murray

The actress playing the car saleswoman has a small part in Tulsa King with Stallone. Sam, are you guys watching or reacting to it?
