I once had a shrink like Carmela's. We got into big fights (well, I shouted, but he kept his cool demeanor) and he often made me cry, but he kept it real and never sugar-coated things. I was going through the most challenging time of my life, and I swear I owe him my life. Right now I'm at a point where I need a softer hand and my current one is more gentle and caring, but I'll always remember that first doctor fondly for what he did for me.

Tough episode for Carm: Tony’s being extra Tony; her parents criticize the life she’s made for herself even though they themselves have benefited from it tremendously; she brings Meadow laundry, dry cleaning and ziti with the sweet sausage only for the little snot to make remarks about the nature of her parents marriage (a quick thank you would have been nice). The highlight of her week was getting hit up for a small fortune from the Columbia Dean. (Those college fundraisers are bigger gangsters than anyone on this show could ever hope to be. The more elite the school and larger the endowment the bigger sharks they become.) And then she has that doozy of a therapy session with Dr Krakauer. Arguably, in its way, the most brutal scene in the entire series. You guys wondered if therapists were allowed to say such things to patients and while few shrinks ever would , it is completely ethical.
I have a theory about Pauly being a creep (ie the panty sniffing). Pauly is the funniest character on the show, of course (and one of the funniest in TV history) and generally loyal and even lovable, as far as these guys go but he’s never been a creep. He is, however, the biggest ball breaker in the entire family and he’s a cold hearted psycho who knows that Chrissy is shorting him his kick (which Christopher has already admitted behind his back). More than anything in this world, like all of them, Pauly only really cares about his money and he is going to humiliate (the strip search) and fuck with him (the panty sniff). It seems like Pauly thinks nobody is watching when he does the underwear thing, but he does it in front of an open door where Chrissy can see him. I wonder if he wasn’t making a point—if you don’t pay me my money, this is how you’re treated!

It's one of my favourite scenes in ANYTHING. Carmela's severe denial, the scrambling for a loophole in the truth she hears, and the therapist refusing to back down. A very different kind of brutal scene in The Sopranos.

Yeah, I think he acts as a viewer surrogate for those who have been frustrated with Carmela all this time, such as myself. I loved when she was talking about Tony being unfaithful and made it seem like that was his biggest flaw.
Cheating on one's spouse, while a terrible thing to do, is a flaw many otherwise normal people have and pales in comparison to all the pain and death Tony and his "family" have inflicted on people, but Carmela is so incredibly self-centered and that she can't even imagine the pain of others.

The scene with Carmella and Jewish therapist is one of the most important scenes in the entire series IMO. It is perhaps the only time a genuinely moral voice "steps in" to the world of all these morally faulty people, and lets be honest, including the viewer (because we sometimes find ourselves rooting for Tony in his misdeeds), and tells it like it is, straight up. These are morally evil human beings who deserve to be in prison, and Carmela, even if she loves Tony on some level, is a materialistic enabler who uses her religion and money for the kids as excuses for staying with Tony and keeping up her lavish lifestyle.
Don't get me wrong, I love the show and characters as a fan but i'm just putting my bias aside for a min and realistically analyzing the situation as real life. That therapist wasn't wrong and was spitting facts IMO. Sure, Tony may not do what the therapist suggested but she still has the option to leave or stay.....looks like she made her choice.

Love that Carmella was dismissive about therapy and rude at Dr. Melfi's, yet took up her offer to see her former teacher to get a dose of her own hypocrisy. It's like coming at somebody with a flyswatter and getting a sledgehammer in return.

I loved the Jewish therapist (Dr. Krakower, I believe) going in on Carmela. I wonder how much of his bluntness had to do with her making an incredibly anti-Semitic remark. Carmela asks him if he's Jewish, which the therapist correctly asks her how that is relevant, and then Carmela says, "Us Catholics we place a great deal of stock in the sanctity of family, and I'm not sure if your people..." She's too dumb to understand how gross what she was about to say was. Damn, I hate her BS inflated sense of piety.
