Lethal Weapon (1987) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Lethal Weapon (1987) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

Yes y'all definitely watch Lethal Weapon 2, Riggs is just as insane in that one and Murtaugh continues to get so much grief his way as well.

I noticed that they probably watched the theatrical. Good scene, though. They can see it on YouTube. "Lethal Weapon 2" is still my favorite of the four films.

Mike the Ginger

So someone posted something on FB and there was a comment "And you know what happens when you go through the drive thru.." I replied saying "Are we about to make a Lethal Weapon 2 / ___ ____ reference?" IYKYK. If you don't you will when you/they watch it. (please don't spoil it)

Alex

They watched the theatrical version. Also, that's not a real Director's Cut. It's a studio cut made as a money grab and not approved by Richard Donner. They just added in footage that was previously included as deleted scenes and Donner never signed off on any of it. If memory serves, they did this with all four movies.

Thomas Yanez

Sam, Did you & TBR watch the theatrical version or the director's cut? The latter is only 7 min longer than the theatrical version and is not much different. EXCEPT & SPOILER ALERT (!) I feel it has one pivotal scene that should have been in the theatrical: to show how Riggs is still "despondent yet a lethal weapon", he goes into a hostage situation at an elementary school without any regard for his own safety with the perp shooting at him and is mostly silent. After a few story beats, he just shoots down the perp at point blank range on the vacant playground. Happy Holidays!

Cody Downs

Now that you've seen this and most of the Die Hards, you'll definitely want to check out Kiss Kiss Bang Bang! I have to say, it's my absolute favorite of Shane Black's movies (so far, at least - and he also directs it!) - it stars Val Kilmer, Robert Downey, Jr. and Michelle Monaghan.

Rue

On Danny Glover. I love this actor. He did a small movie once in the 90's called SWITCHBACK. Not a movie a lot of people talk about, but he's really good in it. Written and directed by Jeb Stuart who co-wrote DIE HARD, ANOTHER 48 HRS, THE FUGITIVE and a whole lot more.

Philip Davetas

I thought they were all great man. Doesn't sound like you're a fan of these movies.

Alex

My favorite LW character doesn't come into the series until the 3rd film.

Donna Castellano

I'll watch the second one and then stop. I remember watching the third one with my dad and we both thought it was awful.

Jeffrey Miller

Yes and please watch them swiftly (Don't let eons go by in between 'em like it was with Die Hard) Make it like the Rocky movies where it was every other week.

Alex

This was back in the 80s. People weren't the same way they are now. Back then the whole idea of "seeing shrinks" was something to laugh at people for. As the series goes forward you see the times change.

Alex

Watching this after at least 10 years I gotta say I like the action scenes, but I think the story is pretty weak. Not bad, but I probably won't watch it again for a long time. I used to work as a crisis counselor so I've talked to and evaluated literally hundreds of suicidal people. I know it's a movie and maybe back then things weren't taken as seriously, but letting Riggs on duty or even just letting him have his gun seems borderline criminal negligence. I honestly think it could be an interesting part of the character to explore if they just toned it down just a bit. In all seriousness though, if someone tells you the kinda stuff Riggs was telling Murtaugh, you need to get them to a hospital.

Jeffrey Miller

Please watch the entire series. Not another action franchise that went four movies that none of them sh*t the bed.

Reed James

Aw. So cool for sharing that.

Philip Davetas

This is one of those rare series where ALL of the movies are worth watching. As with this one, and unlike most action movies, there is an emotional depth to them that is quite rewarding, and also unlike many series, you keep the same director and a significant portion of the original cast, including all of Murtaugh's family.

Thomas Yanez

Okay! Okay! Okay-Okay!

David Crabtree

😄 indeed, we might get it in the intro to Lethal Weapon 2

Andrew

A note about the characters' ages in this movie. Roger Murtaugh turns 50 here, but Danny Glover was only 40 at the time of filming. And Martin Riggs is supposed to be 38, but Mel Gibson was 30 when filming.

David Crabtree

I'm so excited to watch this reaction later this evening! I think every film in this series is great! My personal favorite is number 3! Actually number 1 is probably my least favorite, and that's no knock on it, it's fantastic, that's just how much I love this film series.

David Crabtree

Ok, now I gotta hear Sam's Eric Clapton story haha

Ken Veader

Guys please please just do every sequel from here on out every week. 2 and 3 in my opinion are even better because its more action and lighthearted towith part 2 being the best of all of them in my opinion. 4 is awesome too!! You can argue the Lethal Weapon franchise is hands down way better then the Terminator and Die Hard franchise!!! Its mainly because of Riggs and Murtaughs relationship plus this other surprise character that makes his debut in Lethal Weapon 2!!!

Demos Samolis

Aw I loved Air America. "We're gonna get VSF, man!! VSF!"

Donna Castellano

I dunno why but Lethal Weapon 4 has always been my favorite in the series

Donna Castellano

Daniel: (about Riggs not killing Joshua after their fight) "I don't think he'd kill him in front of all these cops, unless he does something stupid..." *Joshua steals a gun from the cops* Daniel: "OOOH, HE'S DOING SOMETHING STUPID!!!" XD XD

EdmanXERO

Fun fact, we meet both Danny Glover and Mel Gibson in this movie completely naked

Jason Dolan

Danny Glover is actually 40 in this movie playing 50 which is why he looks so great, lol

Jason Dolan

I agree with Alexander Rose! You should watch all of them. I love the first one, but in my opinion these films just get better with each one. Love these movies.

DM DC

KISS KISS BANG BANG is a great Christmas Shane Black movie starring Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer!

Jason Dolan

watch the entire series 1st is dark the others are more humor. 2 is my favorite but 3 is really good too

Ry Jo

The first one is quite dark, you get more humor (and romance!) in 2 and 3. You should definitely watch the entire series.

Jen Barnes

One of my favorite movie series. My dad loved this movie and his personality was very much like Mel’s, so even though he’s been gone for 30 years I will always think of him when I watch this. Thank y’all for another great reaction. Merry Christmas!

Aimee

And we're off! Best action franchise ever, imo🤘

ShadowVessel π

That definitely happened to Bruce Lee. It is possible also with Jet Li because one of the aspects of wushu is that it is extremely fast, and Jet Li is very fast. Some of the scenes in Lethal Weapon 4 are so fast that you barely even see them happen.

Alex

Dude, I think they asked Jet Li to slow down because the film couldn't capture his movements.

Philip Davetas

You should definitely watch all of them, because it tells an overarching story and introduces new and funnier characters with each one, and in 4 you get Jet Li who is arguably the best martial arts star since Bruce Lee. Lethal Weapon 4 was Jet Li's first Hollywood movie and started his stardom here in the states.

Alex

Interesting you mentioned AIR AMERICA as mentioned in the first flick. I purposely didn't go there because, but I'm glad you did.

Philip Davetas

You're Reaction was Fantastic !!! You will love all 4 to 100 % !!! The Second and the Third are my favorites !!! Joe Pesci as Leo Gatz is also so Amazing !!! I can only recommend all 4 to you

Florian Meier

Yes !! I Think the Same !! Love also Die Hard but Lethal Weapon 2 is also my Favorite!!!

Florian Meier

Waiting for the sequels! All of them are awesome!

Marcio T

Fantastic reaction, Sam & Dan! You are so right about why people love this series—it’s the bond the characters develop with one another, which only deepens in a totally earned way as the movies progress. I love you guys because you always seem to “get it”. You might occasionally miss some detail here or there, but, unlike any other reactor I’ve ever watched, you understand and appreciate, nearly without exception, what the filmmakers are trying to say. You’re smart but open, and earnest without being unsophisticated. Truly, the unicorns of reactors. Yes, this is an 80s buddy cop action movie, but I’ve always kind of thought of it as also a Vietnam film. The villains are Vietnam vets, both of the heroes are Vietnam vets. Phoenix Program, Air America (coincidentally Mel Gibson made an eponymous, not great movie about them in 1990 costarring Robert Downey Jr.) and allegations of CIA drug smuggling in Laos are all things that happened. The plot is dark but quite grounded in reality. I love this whole series but Lethal Weapon 2 is by far my favorite, and I hope you get to it soon. In fact, with apologies to Die Hard, which I love, I think Lethal Weapon 2 is the best action movie of the 80s because its action set pieces are all excellent but it’s so funny that I think it’s also one of the best comedies of the decade! It’s probably much more in tone with what I think you were expecting going into this one.

VivendoBem

Oh. One last thing. I like the TV series just fine, but I wouldn't recommend doing it for this channel. Too long for something that isn't exactly as the movie series.

Philip Davetas

Yeah, that's often weird for me to watch that opening shot. I grew up in Long Beach where that building is because when we were kids, we played around in that pool and had to go to the bathroom and we waited for the damn elevator and just wound up peeing in the elevator on the way up. So, I have weird memories of that opening shot. We were like kid-kids. Not to mention that my babysitter at the time was working at the bank with Jackie Swanson when she was filming that opening scene. The movie has a lot of odd nostalgic qualities for me.

Philip Davetas

"I mean it, man."

Philip Davetas

Been wating for this all week. So stoked I got to watch with this with you fine folks. 3-William-56 rules all that ass! It's interesting how you guys picked up on so many details that it took me several viewings to get. Granted, I saw this when I was 16, but I dig how you got the main details. I think as a teenager, all I cared about was explosions and shootings. All the boring investigation stuff was just boring. Things changed as I got older. But, by all fucking means, watch all four flicks! They're all awesome. LETHAL WEAPON 2, though, damn, that's the shit right there. I think someone recommended THE LAST BOYSCOUT, for this season, because it's Shane Black and it's xXxmas, it's worth a look. I'm just stoked for LETHAL WEAPON 2 if that should ever come to pass. * I should also mention there's a director's cut of this movie. It's okay, but it just adds extra deleted scenes to the flick, but you can do without it. The scenes are good, but only for standalone sequences.

Philip Davetas

I always loved the opening of this movie, when she jumps and it's completely silent except for one sustained note of music. Plus the way the camera swung around the building and then pulled into the apartment.

Vwlss Nvwls

Bring on 2!

Odd Thomas

Amazing series, all 4 movies are really fun, definitely should watch all of them and 95% of the Patreon and Youtube comments will very likely say the same ,super excited to start this journey later tonight

Duncan

"I'm too old for this shit" My favorite line.....lol

Mr. Chumpus

fantastic film, the sequel is even better - beyond that, just no

Nick Sneddon

Oh please watch them all, especially because I just purchased Lethal Weapon 3 on accident lol, meant to buy the first movie, which I did right after because I couldn't find it streaming. Anyway, now I'm committed to the series. Also, I had no idea they were working on a new one, awesome! I get why Mel Gibson is probably still controversial, but you know what, movies are a very collaborative thing, it's never about one person no matter how big a star or whatever. And the simple fact is Mel Gibson makes great movies (horrendously inaccurate historical movies, but still, SO entertaining).

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

The director's cuts of 1 & 3 have some extra scenes that really helps with character building of Riggs and Murtaugh respectively, especially part 3.

Vwlss Nvwls

This movie series is one of my overall favorites. Each movie gets just a little better than the previous, and by the end of the fourth movie you feel like part of the family. No spoilers, but the third movie has an after credit scene that is just for fun, but letting you know ahead of time so you don't miss it. :)

Vwlss Nvwls

The father of my two half brothers lost his legs on his last days in Viet Nam, and I went to see this movie for the first time with him. He had already seen it, and he said that Mel Gibson's thousand yard stare, and overall behavior was very realistic to what he knew and had seen from men who suffered from PTSD after the war in Viet Nam.

Vwlss Nvwls

Yes !! The Mother of Buddy Cop Movie !!! Hope you do all 4 !! For me the best Action Series of all Time !!!
