Young Guns (1988) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

I would recommend you guys save FREEJACK for after you’ve seen every other movie ever made. Heh…

Jason Chirevas

They're not "young" anymore. Should've just gone with it and called of Old Guns.

Donna Castellano

@Mr. Writhms, it's titled "Guns 3"

Jonathan Patrick

If its the original cast, they certainly won't be "young" guns. Is it a remake or reboot?

Mr. Writhms

Warren G "Regulate" ...the song begins with Charlie's speech when he met Billy.... https://youtu.be/1plPyJdXKIY

Well I'm old and I watched a lot of MTV when I was a kid. I'm pretty sure it's engraved on the minds of many elder Millennials.

Jeffrey Miller

I do support "Young Guns 2" and the first "Mission Impossible" Movies Reactions. I also Like to recommend "FreeJack" an Emilio Estevez 90's Scifi Movie. I'm sure this one will not be on everyone's favorite list, but it does costar Anthony Hopkins and Mick Jagger (lead singer of the Rolling stones).

MCL-1984

Totally agree. I'm actually pretty shocked that so few people know about that movie. One of the best and most popular movies from the 80s. I have no doubt they would love Silverado.

Marcus Cato

Without getting into specifics, they are currently making a Young Guns 3. Original screenwriter, John Fusco, has written the script. Details have been kept under wraps. Expected to come out sometime in 2023.

JG

I second Three O'Clock High! How NO ONE has reacted to this cult classic yet is beyond me. Hope they add it to the list!

JG

I love seeing people know the reference between Warren G and Young Guns! It's not some obscure ref of course, but it's also not necessarily a crossover audience these days haha

Trepanation21

If you both enjoyed this, I'll add my name to the list of those recommending the sequel when you can squeeze it in. It's equally entertaining IMO. Won't wade into the realism or historical accuracy argument, but they're both a fun watch.

Eric Denney

That was a pretty fun movie, I give it an B+. I consider these kinds of movies to be some degree of historical fiction. While a lot of this stuff might be based on historical events, it's obvious they were aiming for entertaining the audience above all else. Oh! While I know this is the movie the sample came from, when the guy is telling Billy who they are "We're regulators. We regulate any stealing of his property..." it was impossible not to have Warren G start playing in my mind.

Jeffrey Miller

"Silverado" being the best western of the 80s, I would agree. And I'd say, Clint Eastwood's "Pale Rider" (1985) is a close 2nd.

Mr. Writhms

Or better still, the original 3:10 TO YUMA with Glenn Ford and Van Heflin.

Jason Chirevas

SILVERADO is the best western of the 80s, period.

Jason Chirevas

If I may RE: Wayne… STAGECOACH (1939) THE SEARCHERS THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE …and, yes, RIO BRAVO.

Jason Chirevas

Put Men At Work on the list

Tee Grant

Silverado is fantastic. I still quote that movie all the time.

Jen Barnes

The funny thing about this movie, is that they toy with the Pat Garret shooting Billy in the back when Garret goes to warn him in Mexico. So, for people who know the history, everyone thought that was the moment. Garret even slides his hand towards his holster. The duology (possibly trilogy if they ever get the third one made) is one of my favorite Emilio Estevez roles. Although, REPO MAN is pretty close to my heart. He also went on to write and direct. One of my favorite films he directed was MEN AT WORK. It's funny because MEN AT WORK kind of borrows a lot from STAKEOUT--which is also great. Also, Charlie Sheen was a pretty big star at the time. And for him to be killed half way through the movie, was a huge deal. Because it let you know they're not fucking around. People are going to die and it just raised the stakes for the rest of the movie.

Philip Davetas

How could I forget the Stakeout films. My bad. Maximum Overdrive as well. Yes I remember watching Judgment Night with my brother many times late at night when we were supposed to be asleep lol

Jonathan Patrick

Christian Slater is one of the reasons I've always preferred part 2 as well. I hope in 2023 we see reactions to Heathers (1988) and Pump up the Volume (1990). Plus Young Guns 2, of course.

Future Boy

I love Judgment Night (1993). I still remember the first time I watched it on VHS. The moment it ended I rewound the tape and watched it again. Such a great little 90s thriller. A great cast too, lead by Emilio Estevez and Cuba Gooding Jr. I'll add Stakeout (1987) to your Emilio Estevez list. It's my favourite film of his, and also my favourite Richard Dreyfuss film. It's a such a great 80s mix of buddy cop/action/comedy/romance. I also love Three O'Clock High (1987). What a wonderfully weird little high shcool movie that is.

Future Boy

Some of this is the plot of part 2.

Future Boy

If we're doing westerns I recommend 3:10 to Yuma with Christian Bale and Hostiles with, um, Christian Bale

Odd Thomas

I agree. YOUNG GUNS II is a better film. And THE STEPFATHER was the first thing I've seen Terry O'Quinn in.

Philip Davetas

I like this one, but I always enjoyed the sequel more. However I could be bias since I am a huge Christian Slater fan, and he is in the sequel. :D

Vwlss Nvwls

Terry O'Quinn, who played the man helping them, was in a great and disturbing movie before this called "The Stepfather". He was so amazing in that movie, that is all I can see every time I see him in another movie since.

Vwlss Nvwls

I've been waiting for this! So stoked to listen to this! And on a weekend to boot!

Philip Davetas

One western from the 80s that is often forgotten, but is great fun with a HUGE cast is "Silverado". I am certain you two would love this one. I never understood why it was not a bigger film, and why it has become so forgotten over the years.

Vwlss Nvwls

"I hope no-one attacks while they're tripping balls" classic!

Ed R

Alexander McSween: "Billy, you can't do this." Billy: "Don't tell me what I can't do."

Jason Dolan

Great reaction. Its like I was able to see it for the first time again. Thank you 😊 Part 2 will answer more questions, much more to the story before Billy is supposedly "killed" by Pat Garrett Emilio, Kiefer and Lou Diamond Philips come back (Billy, Doc, Chavez) More crazy Billy in part 2 lol I'll repost here some of what I dmed you the other day, Sam 😊 " The movies were very popular back in the day. It was MTV's music generation. Back when MTV played music videos. Lol If you have ever heard the very famous old school rap song "Regulate" by Warren G and Nate Dogg, the beginning of the song is a speech given by Charlie in the film about the Regulators. Regulate: https://youtu.be/1plPyJdXKIY These are the best movies on the Lincoln County War, as Johnny Lawrence was talking about in episode 5 of last seaaons Cobra Kai lol. Young Guns changed the way modern westerns were made. To further its mark in pop culture, Emilio Estevez was close friends with Bon Jovi, wanted to use his song Wanted Dead or Alive for part 2, Bon Jovi said no, he wanted to write a new song for the film instead and do the soundtrack. There in a bar he grabbed a napkin and in 5 minutes wrote the famous song "Blaze of Glory" for Young Guns 2. This is back when the music videos were as big as the movies. Ugh miss those days... Bon Jovi: Blaze of Glory https://youtu.be/MfmYCM4CS8o Bon Jovi also has a cameod in the sequel covered up in makeup but you can see him. Tom Cruise too for part 1, Emilio was friends with Tom Cruise from making The Outsiders (which you should totally react to), Tom visited the Young Guns movie set of the shootout in the end. He said he wouldn't mind playing a bad guy so they suited him up and you can see him for a few split seconds lol. Pat Garrett wrote that Billy was as fast as a flash. Billy was a celebrity to many. The movies are actually very accurate to events for the most part, some embellishments but for the most part pretty accurate according to some hostorians Ive listened to. That military gun in the end you can see in The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise, great film to react to. I really look forward to a Young Guns part 2 reaction. Definitely bigger soundtrack, budget everything. It's a classic. You can't do part 1 without part 2. Young Guns 3, called "Guns 3" is now in development. " "I'll make ya famous" -Billy the Kid ----------- Recommendations on some of these actors which would be great for the channel.. Chavez (Lou Diamond Philips) La Bamba Stand and Deliver --------- Charley (Casey Siemasko) Three O Clock High (a great 80s comedy) He was also one of Biffs posse in Back to the Future 1 and 2, and he's in Stand By Me ---------------- Emilio Estevez The Breakfast Club St Elmos Fire Men At Work (comedy with Emilio and Charlie Sheen) War at Home The Public Judgment Night ---------- Keifer Sutherland The Lost Boys Flatliners -------

Jonathan Patrick

I like the second film but I dont think it surpassed the first. You mentioned the "Hollywood"-ized westerns and that's what the second feels like. Has a pretty great soundtrack. A particular song was freaking EVERYWHERE that summer. I watched this a ton when I was younger. My mom had a crush on Kiefer Sutherland and this was one of her favorites to rewatch. So even tho it's probably been 15 years since I've seen this, I remembered almost all that dialogue, including vocal inflections. You should've seen me just acting out the "he knows what I just saw" scene, when Billy kills McCloskey. 🤣🤣

Donna Castellano

Billy the Kid (born Henry McCarty; September 17 or November 23, 1859 – July 14, 1881), also known by the pseudonym William H. Bonney, was an outlaw and gunfighter of the American Old West, who killed eight men before he was shot and killed at the age of 21. He also fought in New Mexico's Lincoln County War, during which he allegedly committed three murders. McCarty was orphaned at the age of 15. His first arrest was for stealing food at the age of 16 in 1875. Ten days later, he robbed a Chinese laundry and was arrested again but escaped shortly afterwards. He fled from New Mexico Territory into neighboring Arizona Territory, making himself both an outlaw and a federal fugitive. In 1877, he began to call himself "William H. Bonney". Two versions of a wanted poster dated September 23, 1875 referred to him as "Wm. Wright, better known as Billy the Kid".[citation needed] After killing a blacksmith during an altercation in August 1877, McCarty became a wanted man in Arizona and returned to New Mexico, where he joined a group of cattle rustlers. He became well known in the region when he joined the Regulators and took part in the Lincoln County War of 1878. He and two other Regulators were later charged with killing three men, including Lincoln County Sheriff William J. Brady and one of his deputies. McCarty's notoriety grew in December 1880 when the Las Vegas Gazette, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, and The Sun, in New York City, carried stories about his crimes. Sheriff Pat Garrett captured McCarty later that month. In April 1881, McCarty was tried for and convicted of Brady's murder, and was sentenced to hang in May of that year. He escaped from jail on April 28, killing two sheriff's deputies in the process, and evaded capture for more than two months. Garrett shot and killed McCarty, by then aged 21, in Fort Sumner on July 14, 1881. During the decades following his death, legends grew that McCarty had survived, and a number of men claimed to be him. Billy the Kid remains one of the most notorious figures from the era, whose life and likeness have been frequently dramatized in Western popular culture. He has been a feature of more than 50 movies and several television series.

That's so interesting! Yes, we weren't sure how accurate this was, assuming it may have been embellished a little for the sake of the story. Thanks for sharing! -Sam

That was great guys! Fav quote "Did he get shot or is he just taking a shit?" lol

I don't know how accurate the history is behind this movie but I know some parts are purportedly true. There was a Lincoln County War between different factions of cattle barons involving corrupt government officials, and Billy the Kid was somehow involved, although I don't think he was as central to the war the way they made him in this movie, but again I'm not sure. About Billy the Kid though, they did get his other aliases right, Henry McCarty and William Bonny, and when he gets his photo taken, Emilio's pose and outfit is pretty much a spot on recreation of the only known photograph of Billy. He also spoke fluent Spanish, because he spent a lot of time in Mexican villages along the border, and he was considered a hero to the local Mexicans because he was fighting the same people who were persecuting them and cheating them out of land. He was also supposedly an Irish Catholic immigrant and felt more at home with the Mexican villagers who were also Catholic. We meet Pat Garrett twice in the movie, in real life he was the man who took credit for killing an unarmed Billy the Kid in a dark room. He was, at least at one point, a friend of Billy, or so he said. Also, you guys should definitely watch the sequel, I haven't seen it in years but as I recall it was pretty much just as good as the first.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

I never watched Young Guns, so i try now ;) I recommend 3 John Wayne Western to you: "Rio Bravo" from 1959, "El Dorado" from 1966 and "Chisum" from 1970

Florian Meier

At 1:39:18, that's Tom Cruise. His good bud Emilio Estevez returned the favor and cameoed in the first Mission: Impossible.

Ellie Miller

Whoa... I remember watching this movie about every day for a month back in 88

Yann Laliberté

I just died and went to Heaven lol Will be back with my thoughts after watching this 🥲 (hoping for part 2) #Pals

Jonathan Patrick
