To follow up, I can see why Nicholson considers this his best acting work. There's a lot for an actor to do in The Passenger. As for the film itself, the pace is steady and there aren't a lot of big, pivotal moments, but you will stay engaged throughout and there's a really unique device at the end where the camera is pointed out of a window while all the action takes place in a courtyard with people and cars coming in and out of frame that's unlike anything I've ever seen. The 70s, man. They were trying everything!

Paul Cox

Terms of Endearment is a boo-hoo cryer, but extremely well done on all levels. About Schmidt is about life, an aimless man trying to cope with the loss of his job and loved ones. Definitely a tour-de-force for Jscks talent.

ron clint

The Passenger has been a hard movie to get hold of for a long time (as evidenced by it only having 4 votes here), but I just noticed it's on Tubi right now so I'm psyched to finally see it.

Paul Cox

Great poll, he's an icon for a reason. I voted One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest because it's one of my all time favorite movies in general, something about it I really deeply related to when I first saw it. But echoing a lot of the other comments they're ALL great movies, "As Good As It Gets" is probably my favorite rom-com (or is it a rom-com-dram?), anyway it's really good. And "Wolf" is one of the coolest werewolf movies ever, of course it is, Jack Nicholson is in it.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

As good as it gets is one of my fav ever movies. Nicholson plays that role awesomely!! In fact, great performances all round!

Tim McKnight

I would definitely start in the '70's, that's Nicholson in his prime. I'd throw the Last Detail into your next poll.

Ryan Williams

There was a time when it was like pulling teeth to get people to watch "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".

Thomas Yanez

Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces and The Last Detail are some pro-level Nicholson classics you should check out.

Neal Romanek

Heh, "Carnal Knowledge" would certainly make an interesting YouTube edit..

Thomas Yanez

"As Good As It Gets" is missing, and it's one of his best. Definitely in the top 5.

David Martin

I think Jack’s performance in Batman should be appreciated after watching him in Cuckoo’s Nest and The Witches of Eastwick.

Mark M

You can watch any of those top 3 in any order though. Cuckoo's Nest is definitely a must watch, and then maybe Chinatown and then you'll maybe better more fully enjoy Jack's Joker.

Jason Dolan

One flew over the cuckoos nest is classic

Richard

Cuckoos Nest.

Philip Davetas

For me it's a toss up between As Good As It Gets and Batman.

David Crabtree

Several terrific films didn't make the poll: "Wolf" (1994), an up-to-date werewolf film starring Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer, James Spader, and Christopher Plummer, is funny and very upscale and different; and how could y'all forget "Easy Rider?" I know he was a supporting actor in that film, but he really gives a great performance!

William 1611

Cuckoo's Nest is a classic and not only does it have a great Nicholson performance, it also feature's one of films most famous villains.

Jeffrey Miller

They've done that one.

Jeffrey Miller

Correction: I located "Carnal Knowledge" and "Easy Rider" on the list, sorry! (It's a long list!) (Deleted my original complaint about it! :D)

Toc

They did it already.

Toc

Yay, a Jack poll! Psyched! Essential Nicholson that's NOT on the poll: "Carnal Knowledge", "Easy Rider", "The Last Detail", and "Prizzi's Honor". Happy to see "Cuckoo's Nest" is winning, that's generally considered the quintessential Jack performance.

Toc

Ironweed is a very underrated and underseen Jack Nicholson/Meryl Streep film. It is a beautiful and tragic film about an alcoholic homeless drifter reflecting upon his life. It is incredibly well acted and sticks with you long after seeing it. However, I doubt it's worth putting on these polls. I'd be shocked if there weren't at least 15-20 other Jack Nicholson movies picked before it. Not to say his other movies don't deserve attention, but this one always falls by the wayside.

kbobravo

The Departed.

Rudy Hernandez

As Good As It Gets is so slept on. One of my very fav Jack performances.

Shehab Dawoud

Jason Dolan

Honestly, all these Nicholson movies should be watched. The winner will probably be Cuckoo’s Nest, which definitely deserves to be seen, but I’m hoping for Terms of Endearment and As Good As It Gets, both are exquisitely directed by James L. Brooks and both earned Jack Oscars for supporting actor and actor.

Robert Boyd

I agree with anyone that mentioned The Last Detail, The Witches of Eastwick and Prizzi’s Honor. Nicholson is the best, hard to go wrong.

BD Williams

Yes!! Love Chinatown !!!

Florian Meier

Please Watch all of them !! :) Nicholson is my second Favorite Actor after Clint Eastwood ... My Favorites on this List are " Chinatown "and then "As Good As it Gets "... But Cuckoosnest is also a Great pick !! For the Next Poll i Recommend also "Wolf" from 1994 and "The Witches of Eastwick" from 1987 ... Both are fantastic Choices and with Michelle Pfeiffer as Co Star

Florian Meier

Wolf (1994) is a Jack Nicholson werewolf movie. Highly underrated and recommended

ShadowVessel π

Watch all of them

Kevin Charley

Chinatown is a mystery (though one directed by not-my-favorite-human-being Roman Polanski)...I think you'd really enjoy it.

Kurt Yost

Chinatown is one of my very favorite movies. The ending is one of the best in all of cinema. That said, I will point out that you should have included The Last Detail on this ballot.

Michael Buhl

I would also recommend The Last Detail. Nicholson was nominated for best Actor oscar. Kind of a comedy drama about two lifer Sailors taking another sailor (a very young Randy Quaid) to the brig.

Samolina Pilchard

Five Easy Pieces and The Passenger are fantastic, but I think they wouldn’t transfer as well to a Reaction presentation. I’ll post if some additional suggestions come to mind.

David Wilkins

Wolf (Jack Nicolson, Michelle Phifer)

Ken Veader

The Bucket List was a good movie.

James Whalen

I voted for Cuckoo's Nest and Chinatown. Bummed that Easy Rider wasn't an option, but he's not a lead in that one, so I get it. Batman 89's Joker just seems camp after seeing what Heath Ledger did with the character later, but if you can put yourselves in the mindset of that being a fresh spin on the comic book-to-film transition that was a new idea in the late 1980s, then there's something there to enjoy (Batman Returns is better).

Paul Cox

The Last Detail (1973)

Robert Sackrider

They reacted to it on the channel.

Tim Raths

Where's EASY RIDER? Also THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK and MARS ATTACKS! are great. From this list, a watch order I'd probably recommend: BATMAN CHINATOWN ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST (which also has Penguin Danny De Vito in it) AS GOOD AS IT GETS FIVE EASY PIECES But make no mistake, all of these films are good.

Jason Dolan

Yes, Departed is already on the channel :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Terms of endearment is the best movie overall but Jack is more supporting in his role

Eric Frazee

So many great Jack films, so little time! I expect Cuckoo's Nest to win pretty comfortably though. It's not my favorite on here, but it's probably the most known, other than Batman.

Shehab Dawoud

mikethemotormouth

Witches of Eastwick with Jack for next Halloween, maybe!?!

Webwyrm

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a must watch. Great performances by Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher.
