The Sopranos Season 2 Episode 10 'Bust Out' Full TV Reaction!!

The Sopranos Season 2 Episode 10 'Bust Out' Full TV Reaction!!

Comments

As far as bleeding David out there was some big money involved in a business of that size. Tony warned him not to play. If you remember Tony wasn't there when they let him join the game. He also wasn't aware of the amounts of money they were giving him to play. Also Meadow is old enough to know the rules she's living by. She doen't approve of a lot of things while running up her charge cards.

softshoes

I was wrong. Don’t shame me.

Ghost Crusaders

You are correct. I always thought that was the Stugots 2 as it is bigger than the boat in the pilot. And we never see the upper deck until after he deals with David. I stand corrected.

Ghost Crusaders

No it wasn't. He mentions it in the first season when he kills Chucky.

David Murray

Hahaha just awful! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

OH nooooo! We did not pick that up! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yeah, I definitely think it was just too personal! All impulse! But thank you! We need to read up on the famous mafia names! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yeah I think we were under the impression his face was plastered all over the news in New Jersey, but clearly we're mistaken! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Ah okay I think we missed that or glanced over it, but I agree, poor Vic is going to be in rough position trying to cover that, I think -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Also, I can't imagine watching this as a therapist haha has to be frustrating a lot of episodes! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

LOL but that was too long so they went with "The Sopranos"! Agree with all of this, especially the mask slipping! Such an important conversation. These have to be some of the most well written, dynamic characters of any show I've ever seen! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

LOL we did totally miss that! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

LOL it was already horrible and then add the gun! Yikes! But agree with all of this! I'm so sad about Nancy Marchand, because she was a fantastic villain! Janice is a horrible villain too, but nobody can top Liv, at least not yet -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Hahaha I tried to hold in the cough! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha thank you so much! They're getting to be movie lengths :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Wow, thank you so much, Marcus! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I think this calls for a Goodfellas re-watch! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Eek can't wait! -Sam

The Richie & Janice sex scene was one of the funniest things to me because it just comes out of nowhere. You just know the creators were trolling

Laura Palmer

Yeah, aside from the outlandish and notorious John Gotti, extremely few people could identify a high ranking mobster. And Gotti “worked” at it a while, with splashy habits and a few high-profile trials that actually drew nationwide attention. No doubt most of the mob world was unhappy about his flaunting. Especially since around the 90’s, most mobsters have become harder to distinguish from their legitimate business counterparts. There’s an entirely other deep dive that isn’t truly relevant here, regarding the evolution of the “mob” (call it whatever you want) over the course of decades. Dating back to at least the 1930’s, absolutely massive amounts of money have been made that had to go “somewhere”. They became more sophisticated, hired the best accountants money could buy, and a lot of it was channeled into cream of the crop industries and businesses. Their stakeholder positions grew. Their children went to the best colleges. And much of what the business world is now composed, has some pretty dark roots. Think about that as we watch the world and its politics unfold. It’s been written about many times—the primary industries into which illegitimate money has flowed, and eventually come to control. You can’t get much more secure, profitable, and easy to manipulate large holdings, than the insurance and pharmaceutical industries. Plus a whole raft of others that rank just beneath them.

David Wilkins

I think it's the impulsivity coupled with it being his beloved nephew. Impulsive revenge.

Nicky D

Tony's boat was bought by David's company.

Ghost Crusaders

True, though if memory serves, i believe he had technically been boss by the time of his assassination.

Armchair Wizard

Don't beat yourself up. Even when you know it's coming, there's no way to prepare yourself for that chilling grotesquerie.

Robert Livingood

I don’t know what Tony’s doing killing the Bevilacqua kid himself. It won’t be the last time he does things, both big and small, that are beneath his status as a boss, but h e does them anyway. I’ve never been able to decide whether Chase is making more of a comment on Tony’s impulsivity or that the Soprano Crime Family is really just minor league mafia. A “pygmy family” or “glorified crew”, one might say. BTW, I think you guys were wondering who Paul Castellano was after Janice mentioned him while trying to convince Richie to kill Tony. Castellano was the Capo of the Gambino family (the most powerful of NYC’s five mafia families) who was famously assassinated outside Sparks Steakhouse in midtown Manhattan by John Gotti's crew in 1985 leading to Gotti’s ascension to boss.

Robert Livingood

Yeah, but I think it's implied that while Vic might be paying for it, he doesn't have the money on hand like David did with the college fund.

Jeffrey Miller

Ugh, that was some sick stuff there. For some reason I forgot that was this season and got taken by surprise again. I mean it's pretty extreme even before you see the gun.

Marcus Cato

With Tony’s lack of recognition from civilians, it’s important to know that not every one knows what he looks like. He is actually very low key and does his best to remain out of the spotlight, compared to other Mob bosses. So it makes sense that not everyone knows his physical appearance.

JG

Vic told David he was going to pay for Eric's Georgetown tuition, so Eric is still gonna go to the college he wanted. It's just great he has an uncle who was able to do that for him.

Donna Castellano

An alternate title for this show should be, "Everyone is an awful hypocrite using BS justifications for their selfish/harmful behavior" lol. Tony is full of it talking about the mafia life. Doctor Mefli called him out when she said, "What do poor Italian immigrants have to do with you?". She's right. Tony's family has been prosperous for at least three generations. I mean, Meadow is accepted to some of the most expensive universities in the country and there is almost no discussion of how it will be paid for. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say we'll see some "civilians" get whacked as the series goes on. Carmela sucks. She is mostly concerned about the image and privilege Tony's life gives her. She asks God for forgiveness yet will absolutely do nothing to stop using blood money to buy whatever her heart desires. Honestly, her getting horny for Vic the wallpaper guy was the most human and sympathetic thing she's done in forever. I thought the scene with Tony talking to David was really good because it was one of the few moments we've seen of Tony letting the mask slip and showing that he is a bit more of a sociopath than we usually see. Also, the therapy scene where Tony tells Dr. Melfi that he feels good and doesn't need anymore psychiatry for the day drove me crazy as a therapist just as it did Dr. Melfi. When your client has an important insight (Tony accepts the fact that he is responsible for a lot of his problems) and feels good enough to think clearly is the best time to follow-up with "Ok, so what are we going to do to work on this in the future?" Then Tony is like, "Nope, I feel good, no need to think about how I'm going to avoid these problems when they inevitably come up again."

Jeffrey Miller

One detail of the bust out I think you missed is the water bottles. You did notice the red coolers showing up in different places, but I don't think you noticed the water. First it's shown being delivered to the sports store where Paulie opens one of the bottles and takes a drink. Then, at the restaurant, Arty is telling Carmela "I want you to try this. I got such a deal on this Ramlosa." And later in the episode, Junior is holding a bottle in his hand when Richie goes to visit him. It's such a funny little detail. I love it.

Michael Chavira

We have seen, and will see, some truly horrifying things depicted in this show, but, for my money, nothing will be more disturbing than the Richie Janice sex scene. EEEWWWW!!! With regards to Tony’s justification that if you’re in the mafia, you’re a soldier and killing is akin to soldiers killing other soldiers in war. It almost sounds good, but it’s just lip service, plenty of innocent people in this show and in real life are hurt and sometimes killed by the mafia. A lot of self-delusion going on in these episodes (hell, it’s Carm’s preeminent character feature throughout the series). It goes to your observation about the devout Catholicism of many of these people. You guys are right, we haven’t seen Livia much this season. Unfortunately, Nancy Marchand, the actress who played her, was sick with cancer during this season. She told David Chase that she was ill after the pilot got picked up but he cast her anyway because he saw how great she was. Knowing her condition was worsening between Season 1 and Season 2 Chase decided to bring the Janice character into the show to fill the void of treacherous female family member; a sort of Livia by proxy.

Robert Livingood

TBR Schmitt and Sam just keep crushing these Sopranos reactions. Best out there! Not gonna lie when Sam coughed and reached for a drink. That giant tumbler geeked me right out.

flynhwn

Almost 2 hours of Sopranos across these 2 episodes/reactions, and then 20+ minutes of outro discussions. This is as good as it gets!

Future Boy

You guys keep getting better and better with the reactions and the post reaction discussions. I'm glad you are enjoying this the way we all did when it first came out.

Marcus Cato

You guys don't remember what they said in Goodfellas. "Now the guy's got Paulie as a partner. Any problems, he goes to Paulie. Trouble with the bill? He can go to Paulie. Trouble with the cops, deliveries, Tommy, he can call Paulie. But now the guy's gotta come up with Paulie's money every week, no matter what. Business bad? Fuck you, pay me. Oh, you had a fire? Fuck you, pay me. Place got hit by lightning, huh? Fuck you, pay me. Also Paulie could do anything. Run up bills on the joints credit and why not? Nobodies going to pay for it anyway. Soon as a delivery is made at the front door you move the stuff out the back and sell it at a discount. You take a $200 case of booze and sell it for $100. It doesn't matter, it's all profit. And then finally. When there is nothing left. When you can't borrow another buck from the bank or can't buy another case of booze. Your bust the joint out. You set a match." (<~ For the insurance money.)

Ghost Crusaders

I can't wait for you to see the final three episodes of season two. You'll be "blown away" even more :))
