The Usual Suspects (1995) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

Backlog done daw this when it came out. Absolutely fantastic 👏 one of the best of the 90s!

Backlog Andy M.

Maybe "I Know What You Did Last Sammer"...er I mean Summer

Guston Zimasheen

Two more he had come out right around that time worth checking out: The Ref (dark Christmas comedy with Judi Davis and Denis Leary, funny as hell) and Swimming with Sharks (very uncomfortably funny black comedy about Hollywood producers). Good stuff!

Steven Montano

Ah interesting!! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

LOL! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Ah thank you both! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

TBR Schmitt

Ah thank you! Haha yes! It's like he doesn't age either! So funny! He's also in The Boys if you haven't seen that series yet! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Crazy that Spacey had both of those come out so close to each other! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha yup! Unfortunately, spoiled by Family Guy! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I can understand that! I'd love to watch once more to catch more hints and subtleties but once you know the twist, I'm sure it's not as fun! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Crazy! He got us! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha Yes! Daniel caught so much reviewing the edit! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Ooh love all the excitement for these films! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Agreed, Sarah! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Ah interesting! That's crazy the lengths they go to creating Verbal and all that went down in 6 weeks! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Are we officially ready?! Are we missing anything else?! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Woah! That is actually really cool! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha aww! Well hope you enjoyed the reaction as much as the first time you watched it! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

"What's the rumpus?" "I was in the neighborhood feeling daffy" Such a quotable movie

Smooticus

Yes to both of those! Miller's Crossing is one of my favorites

Smooticus

Here is how I see it. Everything Verbal said about the killing on the boat happened, but it was not him watching it happen... it was him doing it. And why he was caught was so the police would not be looking for Verbal Kent. Kyzer likely did not know anyone survived, or that they could identify him, until he was picked up by Kobyashi at the end. So he let himself get caught so that he could walk free, and not worry about being seen again. However, when he finds out there is another that has seen him, he will kill that guy and then disappear forever.

Vwlss Nvwls

It is always so fun to see someone seeing this the first time and coming to the realization.

Vwlss Nvwls

"Pretty impressive peeing." "Well, it's not too hard to aim." Now we know Kyzer is not a woman. :D

Vwlss Nvwls

This is such a great movie. First time I saw this it did exactly what it wanted and shocked the hell out of me at the end. Great cast. Love this movie.

Vwlss Nvwls

Well, it comes down to this, what do we KNOW happened for sure? We know they were in a lineup together in NYC. We know the guys were on the boat 6 weeks later and they died there. We really don't know much beyond that for sure, including what/how/why they were actually there.

Sarah

He was also in Casino that they watched on the channel.

Tim Raths

A Few Good Men. That's who you recognize Kevin Pollock from.

softshoes

I became a fan of Gabriel Byrne after this movie. For some weird reason I mix him up with the lead singer of "Roxy Music", Bryan Ferry. You guys had already seen him in "Hereditary", so it was good to see him again, even if his characters keep dying.

Guston Zimasheen

I believe it was Benicio Del Toro.

Tim Raths

Who actually farted is the true mystery of the movie…

PIG

Actually the reason why they were laughing in the lineup scene was because somebody farted in the room.

Tim Raths

I'm pretty sure it's in trivia or DVD commentary somewhere that when Redfoot flicked the cigarette at McManus he really hit Steven Baldwin in the eye and Baldwin was really upset about it. And the laughter in the lineup was real because Del Toro kept joking around and using the weird accent he chose to use for his character.

Grand Moff Slackin'

Been a fan of this one since its release, and I enjoyed your reaction.

David Wilkins

Oh, fuck yes.

Steve Mercier

Great Reaction

christopher brown

I totally agree with this. Was really cool at the time. The twist was cool. But its just not that rewatchable for me personally.

Ed R

An additional vote for Miller’s Crossing. How can you go wrong with a 1930’s gangster movie from the Coen brothers? And the whole cast is stellar, featuring the legendary Albert Finney.

David Wilkins

First time watching in probably 20 years. I give this film a B+. It's probably not something I'll revisit, but it's a solid one-time watch.

Jeffrey Miller

Guessing? Next to none.

Jason Chirevas

Forgot about that! Rock crusher!!!

Steven Montano

You think Benicio is young in this, check him out as a Bond henchman in Licence to Kill.

Jason Dolan

Miller's Crossing (1990), please and thank you. now excuse, i dropped my hat...

YoureMrLebowski

I think this is a decent film, largely thanks to the performances, but I wish the beginning was done differently. Since the opening shows you where Keaton is, and part of the conversation with Keyser, the climactic scene where Kujan is trying to convince Verbal that Keaton was Keyser doesn't work at all. Ideally, the scene would be played entirely from the wide shots of the boat, many seen from behind the boxes, and the dialog can't be heard. Otherwise, Kujan's interpretation has Keaton shooting Keaton, which makes no sense.

Tyler Foster

"how do you shoot the devil in the back???" -- What a great film!!

Chris Bruneau

Gabriel Byrne is the father in Hereditary :) I also recently had my mind blown finding out Jack the FBI Agent is Giancarlo Esposito, more recently known Gus Fring in Better Call Saul/Breaking Bad and Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian.

Nonimal

One of my all-time faves, and the best work (IMO) by both director Bryan Singer and writer Christopher McQuarrie. I saw this in the theater when it came out in 1995, shortly before I went and saw Se7en. Based on his in roles those two films, I was convinced that Kevin Spacey was, in fact, the antichrist. ;D All kidding aside, this is a terrific film, and probably my favorite performance from both Byrne and Pollack, as well. And man, Benicio WAS young in this!

Steven Montano

so i skipped to the end, and could immediately tell Daniel knew what was up by the glances to Sam and the little smile on his face. 🙂

YoureMrLebowski

For me, this movie makes for a really good first time watch. But aside from Kevin Spacey's amazing and well-deserved Oscar-winning performance, I've always felt this movie was a one-trick pony with its twist ending. Don't get me wrong, I think the twist ending is one of the all-time great endings and reveals. But majority of the rest of the movie, save for Spacey's performance, just doesn't do it for me on repeat viewings. Great reaction though!

David Crabtree

Hallelujah—one of my favorite movies of all time. I remember the audience reaction in theaters when the limp went away…

Warren H

Yeah, they HAVE to watch Miller's Crossing at least.

Tostito Buddy

Indeed. Why is Verbal the only one who isn't shown being arrested at the start?

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

watching this a 2nd time is alot of fun as well... you can see how verbal is scanning the wall behind the detective etc... or at the beginning the two cops say that verbal is protected by the prince of darkness.. there are alot of hidden hints ^^

24fps_

Could not possibly agree more :D

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

The absolute finest example of the "unreliable narrator" that I've ever seen on film :)

Sarah

Seeing Gabriel Byrne and Chazz Palminteri makes me hope that the Schmitts get to both Miller's Crossing and A Bronx Tale sometime soon. Two very different but fantastic mob movies.

VivendoBem

Yes, you have to remember that the narrator (Verbal) is telling his side of the story throughout -- it's not necessarily factual.

David Martin

At the beginning, the San Pedro police guy told Kujan that Verbal had been arrested for a second degree misdemeanor weapons possession charge. Verbal had the immunity for everything else that went down at the pier, either an accessory or just straight out. Nothing of those charges he got immunity for extended at all to Keyser Soze. "Kobayashi" must've definitely set up the persona of Verbal Kint to make his existence all the more believable. I've seen this movie multiple times since it hit video in what, 95? I'm still unsure how much of the story he was telling Kujan was even legit.

Donna Castellano

Having seen this and the first two Scream films, you now have to watch Scary Movie from 2000!

David Crabtree

Fun Fact When the filmed the movie the director wanted keaton/Gabriel Byrne and Verbal/ Spacey to both think they were keyser soze. They didnt find out till the movie came out... one of them was dissapointed

TinCan Cosmanaut

This is the kind of movie that makes me jealous of you guys getting to see it for the first time.

Tostito Buddy

Oh boy
