Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

They kept Ray’s business tho, which came from 2. I like the 2nd one for nostalgia. But when I heard Bill Murray say they had a great pitch for a 2nd one and he agreed to it but they completely changed everything last minute, it made wonder exactly what the pitch was originally.

Joseph Silva

I never really thought of 2 as canon. It always seemed disconnected. Can't really explain it because it was a very long time ago when I first saw it and felt this and I don't remember why I felt this.. but while 2 is actually decent it was, for me, one of those where I felt like there was really only 1 movie that is actually "Ghostbusters" and the 2nd one was a fun time but not really connected to the first.

Alex

Maybe the upcoming sequel will touch on the 2nd film. I was also surprised that Slimer didn't make some type of appearance, but again, maybe the sequel.

Andrew

Rewatching this for the first time since it hit video, it feels like they ignored 2 in the Canon altogether. I don't think I saw/heard one reference to it. Not that I'm complaining. I didn't like 2 much. I really hated how they caved to pressure and made Jeannine more like the cartoon version. Not even in personality, since cartoon Jeannine still was in love with Egon. And still a sassy badass. More in dressing her like a literal cartoon character and ruining her.

I loved this movie. I originally thought this was going to be really bad, just because.... reasons.. But wow it was so true to the original and the music was epic! Exact same music from the first one. Great soundtrack and they did a fantastic job with everything. And it's great that they brought back the theme at the end, and Venkman getting shocked was a bonus LOL. Recently I watched a Castle episode where they thought a ghost was the killer.. Beckett doesn't believe in ghosts and at one point Castle said "Say it." She's like "No. I'm not gonna say it." Oh come on, say it! And she's like "Alright..... I ain't afraid o' no ghost."

Alex

Every time you disagree with anything lately people lose their shit. Today I had someone just start giving me nonstop unsolicited advice and when I disagreed with their advice they literally flipped their lid and being verbally abusive. I'm over it.

Alex

I disagree! (Just kidding.)

Tyler Foster

Be careful voicing contrary opinions. Lately every time I disagree with anyone and state that I don't like a movie, I get told it is disrespectful. As if no one can ever have the opposite opinion on anything.

Anthony Perez

Everything I heard about this movie made me think I should skip it, so I gave it a chance and yeah, I am the completely wrong person for this movie. I have unpopular opinions about nostalgia which for some reason makes some people angry when I express them.

Jeffrey Miller

They actually did announce a sequel for Dec. 2023.

Joseph Silva

I still hope you guys check it out. It is a different canon, but I think it's a fine movie, and I agree that it's a little better than this one (with the caveat that I think all three follow-up movies are a mixed bag).

Tyler Foster

I watched the Director's Cut just to be fair to it. It was awful. The only thing that wasn't awful was Patti.

Donna Castellano

Fun fact: although they used digital effects for Egon's face, head structure, hairstyle, etc., the actor who actually doubled as ghost-Egon in the film was none other than Bob Gunton, best known for playing the villainous Wardon Norton in Shawshank Redemption!

David Crabtree

I find it amusing that TBR apparently still doesn't "get" the gatekeepr/keymaster thing. When the kids grabbed the mom, he said it was the "gatekepper or keymaster". TBR, in both movies, the woman is the gatekeeper, and the man is the keymaster. Do the math.

The 2016 film is worth watching at some point, at least to give you perspective and definitely more appreciation for the real Ghostbusters films. Plus, it's a reboot and not part of the main Ghostbusters series anyways. Hey, all film is subjective. You guys might like it. Me, I think the 2016 film comes across as a bunch of unfunny SNL skits stitched together. As for Afterlife, that was such a fun reaction. I adore this film, and I'm glad you guys finally got to watch it!

David Crabtree

Bout time! 👻

Tristan Durant

Told you you all would like it.

Shaun2342!

Great reaction, guys. This is one of those movies that gets better the more you watch it. Yeah, I was totally blown away by Egon's appearance at the end, too. And that post credit scene feels tacked on to me because of the Starbucks reference earlier. What happened? The first time I watched it I wasn't on board with the scene where McKenna Grace grabs the proton pack in response to the sheriff, but I forgot about the scene in the original where Egon goes off on Mr. Dickless. She's definitely got her grandpa's temper Lol

Yay! Thanks, David! -Sam

The nostalgia is on point! 🥹 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

LOL I like that you included Cooper in this 😂 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

We decided not to watch it because it didn’t sound like a film that included the original cast or canon to that film, not because someone told us not to watch it. -Sam

I was cracking up every time you mentioned poor Muncher, just minding his own business, eating up all the junk rusty metal, and then gets attacked out of the blue by a couple of kids. Perhaps in the sequels to this they could have Slimer, Muncher and Cooper hanging out together, just eating and shooting the breeze.

Guston Zimasheen

Wow...never realized there were people who DIDN'T like Ghostbusters. That's crazy

ShadowVessel π

I'm not interested in the controversy about it but I liked the 2016 one. Better than original? Nope. On par with sequel? Maybe. But preferred it to this one. Can't remember A THING that happens in this one :(

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Answer The Call was on par with modern SNL skits and I don’t mean that as a compliment.

Nick of Time

They werent trolls. The film was really that bad. In fact they all are pretty bad. They just don't have any good ideas for Ghostbusters. The first one being great was a flute. All the ones after that have been bad to mediocre. In my opinion. They all are bad. I can see why people like the first one. But, that one is overrated too. There just not that good of movies. I prefer the Goonies over all of them.

BuckCity

I'm disappointed you caved to the whims of trolls and ignored Answer The Call

Odd Thomas

Very solid movie but Harold Ramis still hates Bill Murray, lol

Jason Dolan

YES! This just made my Friday evening!

David Crabtree

I know feedback has been mixed, but I really loved this movie! The nostalgia effect. :)
