Comedy Movie Poll!

Help pick the Comedy film we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

NOTE: I have seen Clerks, so this would only be Sam's first time watching and Sam has seen Uncle Buck, so this would only be my first time watching!

Comments

I recommend The Death of Stalin, which doesn't get much reactor attention. It's Veep with more murder.

Kevin C.

Suggesting this comedy to you both: Small Time Crooks (2000). Little back story: in high school, I caught the flu and passed it along to my mom. It was the worst flu either of us have caught in our lives (we literally only had energy to sit and open our eyes for 3 straight weeks--I don't even know remember how we ate). We watched this movie and couldn't stop laughing. I can't remember a thing about it other than that is was HILARIOUS.

Elisa Pfau

As well as the other Paul Newman/Robert Redford classic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Neal Romanek

Yeah, Midnight Run is dynamite.

Neal Romanek

Oh, what a great film.

David Martin

Uncle Buck needs to win. We need more "Husband's First Time Watching" on the channel. I refuse to vote for Clerks simply because the race is too close :)

Michael Chavira

Doh! I keep forgetting about Spy (2015). Now THAT one had me laughing. Best Jason Statham performance ever!

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

I'd like to recommend "The Sting". A 1973 film starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford along with a number of other recognizable actors. It's a Comedy/Crime/Drama movie set in the 30's that I'm sure you two will enjoy.

Robert Cintron

I know it's not considered a straight "comedy" but, for me, I laughed harder at In Bruges (2008) than I have at any "comedy" from the last two decades. Maybe it could be included in the future... I'd be surprised (and disappointed) if it didn't blow the competition away ;)

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Other must-see comedies: The Odd Couple, Withnail & I, Duck Soup, Raising Arizona, Some Like It Hot, When Harry Meet Sally, There's Something About Mary, Best In Show, Annie Hall and Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

Neal Romanek

Love and Death is one of my favorite comedies.

Neal Romanek

Oh, yeah. Spinal Tap. And so glad you've got a Steve Martin one in there. I'm still pushing for the Steve Martin classics - The Jerk, Roxanne, The Three Amigos, The Man With Two Brains.

Neal Romanek

I actually like the times it’s a movie Dan has seen but Sam hasn’t, because he’s always making those sideways looks at her and smiling like a goof when he knows something that he can’t say without spoiling something. It just cracks me up.

Nick of Time

As a genre, comedy has the shortest shelf life, and not just because "PC". The two biggest reasons comedy ages poorly are that it's overly topical and or it has been imitated so much since it was released that it's worn out.

Jeffrey Miller

1. O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) Directed by Joel Coen who did Fargo, No Country for Old Men and The Big Lebowski 2. Coming to America (1988) Eddie Murphy's best film, and actually one of the great comedies of all time 3. There's Something About Mary (1998) Super 90s vibe. From the Farrelly Bros who did Dumb and Dumber which I'm sure has been suggested a million times. 4. The Other Guys (2010) Buddy cop satire with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. Directed by the guy who did Anchorman, Step Brothers, The Big Short, etc. 5. A League of Their Own (1992) Based on historical events. Good ensemble cast, Tom Hanks is pretty funny in it. 6. The Death of Stalin (2017) Not too serious with this pick, but I love it. However, it does require a little bit of historical knowledge to fully appreciate it. Not a lot, but it helps. Also, in every comments section where this film is being reviewed or mentioned it turns into a garbage dump because everyone fights over the politics. Which sucks because the movie isn't really about ideology. Made by Armando Iannucci who made a bunch of British comedies and he created Veep.

Jeffrey Miller

My list: Hot Fuzz by a mile, Shaun of the Dead, and The World's End is a movie I will never watch again unless TBR reacts to it

Jeffrey Miller

Strangely, I think Dumb and Dumber has probably held up the best.

Jeffrey Miller

So that means that they shouldn't watch a hilarious John Candy movie or put up their reaction of it?

mikethemotormouth

Good movie but every other YouTubers have done a reaction already.

Rudy Hernandez

In my recommendations list. Great film

Jonathan Patrick

Ive dropped a request for that one like a half dozen times, I'm patiently waiting ha

Ken Veader

It's not like that. It's just "what movie have I already seen that I really enjoyed that I want to see a fresh reaction on?" You know you'd rather see Sam watch Clerks than both of them watch "Mad Mad World" for the first time (it's a huge product of its time and really doesn't hold up well IMO; it does have a little bit of interest for people already familiar with the actors, but that's it).

Dee Aitch

Its a good movie lol.

Armchair Wizard

That was a hilarious film, partly because so many of the gags were so subtle, and of course because of Alan Arkin and Peter Falk. I wanted to vomit when the 2003 remake appeared.

William 1611

Uncle Buck? Really?

PickettsChargingPort

Guys, there seems to be a problem with the voting system. Most of the time, even though people are trying to vote for Dazed and Confused, it is, in fact, counting their vote for an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT MOVIE. Might want to have that looked at!! :S Seriously though, the patrons here are a curious bunch. No matter what's on the poll, if Dan or Sam have already seen one of the options, y'all gonna vote for that one!

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Really good choices here. A few I haven't seen. One I don't recall well. My fave of these is Uncle Buck! Love that movie. Crocodile Dundee is really great. Clerks is pretty funny as are many of the movies that follow it. Dazed and confused is good too.

DM DC

Forgive me if it's already been recommended or even watched, but Midnight Run is a perfect movie and one they would really love. It's funny, there's great action, a lot of heart (it's really downright touching, at times) and gangsters. What more could you want from a movie?

VivendoBem

Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)

Mario

In the future, maybe you could consider my favorite comedy, which lots of people haven't seen because it came out in 1985: "Into the Night," starring Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Pfeiffer, Dan Aykroyd, David Bowie (!), and a bunch of famous directors who were cast in bit parts: David Cronenberg, Don Siegel, Paul Mazursky, and John Landis, who actually directed it. It's wonderful. A more recent movie that you'd probably love is "Little Miss Sunshine."

William 1611

Great Poll!!! The Best Movies here for me are 1. Crocodile Dundee, 2. As Good As it Gets, 3. Uncle Buck !!! Another great Comedy Actor is Eddy Murphy, maybe you can put someday "Trading Places" from 1983, "Beverly Hills Cop" from 1984 and "Coming to America" from 1988 on a Poll... All These Movies are Cult Classics and my Favorite Comedy Films of the 80's

Florian Meier

Love Love Love this suggestion!!

Rudy Hernandez

Eh, I'm split between Crocodile Dundee, Dazed and Confused, and Uncle Buck. And may I suggest Tag (2018)? I still lmao every time I see it 😂 Disorganized Crime (1989) and The Big Hit (1998) are two more looked over hilarious comedies

ShadowVessel π

What's Up Doc? is classic, I am actually old enough that I saw it at the theater when it came out. Great choice.

Beau Mont

Making me choose between Spinal Tap and Dazed and Confused is especially cruel. I would also love to see a reaction to the original 1979 version of The In-Laws.

Michael Buhl

Crocodile Dundee is a trilogy and one of those where you have to watch all 3 of the films. Clerks is funny and popular but it's no Crocodile Dundee. The way to think about it is Clerks is a great comedy but Crocodile Dundee is a great film that's iconic, and also a great comedy. Perhaps it wasn't their intention but Clerks feels like it's just a movie to watch if you wanna laugh. CD makes you laugh, has a lot of action and also will get you in the heart strings.

Alex

I would add Take the Money and Run(1969) As for later, Small Time Crooks(2000) is a must

mikethemotormouth

I'd rather watch Curb Your Enthusiasm than any Woody Allen film, similar comedy done wayy better

Ken Veader

I love When Harry Met Sally. I think it has the best comedy dialogue every written. And it might be the only romantic comedy that I truly love.

Future Boy

Its such a great ensemble film, lead by Steve martin. Legit classic comedy. I hope they watch it

Ken Veader

Parentood is the funniest film on this poll followed closely by Dazed and Confused

Ken Veader

Yeah, a lot of those old 70s comedies were pretty good. "The In-Laws" (1979) comes to mind.

Mr. Writhms

This is Spinal Tap(1984) is my favorite Rob Reiner! Other comedies for you to get around to some time: Kung Pow: Enter the Fist(2002)(especially after Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon won your martial arts poll) Say it Isn't So(2001) Airheads(1994)

mikethemotormouth

You guys gotta check out Caddyshack one of these days. It is so freaking hilarious! 😂😂

Rick Trujillo

TBR and Sam, two other 80s comedy gems: 1) Splash! 1984 (Tom Hanks, John Candy, Darryl Hannah, and Eugene Levy) great comedy about a man in love with a mermaid. 2) When Harry Met Sally- 1989 (Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan) directed by Rob Reiner (Princess Bride and Spinal Tap) funny dialogue and a great movie! It’s a rom com comedy. Could you add these to future polls?

Jeff Phillips

A Fish Called Wanda (1988) can you add this to future comedy polls? It stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline and the Monty Python crew. It’s hilarious and I know both of you would enjoy it!

Jeff Phillips

the movie that taught me the definition of the word amalgam

Jason Dolan

Parenthood doesn’t ever get much love. One of the best movies of the 80’s, perhaps ever.

Rudy Hernandez

Here's my oddball OLD comedy suggestion: What's Up Doc? from 1972. Wall-to-wall clever dialogue and sight gags, and Streisand was never more magnetic.

Paul Cox

I can't not vote for Uncle Buck. One of my top 5 favorite movies of all time! Plus, it might lead you to wanting to see more John Candy, which Might lead you to Little Shop of Horrors (1986) (theatrical version), one of my together top 5 movies of all time

bosho11

YES! I've been waiting for a channel—any channel, but particularly this one—to watch the original CAPE FEAR.

Paul Cox

Hoping Dazed and Confused can rally by the end. So many perfect moments in it.

Paul Cox

You already watched Hot Fuzz, you need to complete the Cornetto Trilogy with Shaun of the Dead and The World's End :) Perfect for happen also.

Olivier Fortier

Both Uncle Buck and Crocodile Dundee would be fun. But I'm voting for Crocodile Dundee because I will always prefer something that's new to both of you. That's the most fun!

Future Boy

Dan mentioned 'Team America' a brilliant political satire Thunderbirds style puppet feature. So freaking hilarious.

Aaron Barlow

Team America!!!

Aaron Barlow

Yes !! Crocodile Dundee is Perfect !!!

Florian Meier

Yeah !! One of the Best Comedy Movie's of the 80's !!! Hope they watch it

Florian Meier

Yes !!! I second it !! Love this Movie !!!

Florian Meier

Cape Fear was originally made in 1962, and the 1991 version is practically a scene-for-scene remake, simply updated to current (for 1991) times. I like them both, but I always like to credit the original, since the creative effort went into it.

David Martin

Woody's movies are definitely some of the best comedies of the era. Definitely "Sleeper", definitely "Annie Hall" (and lots of other Woody Allen movies you skipped, definitely way more than Midnight In Paris, which I found super slight, like most of his post-1992 work. You skipped "Zelig","Broadway Danny Rose", "Radio Days", "Hannah & Her Sisters", "Crimes And Misdemeanors"....those are all way more essential (and funnier). Basically you can't go wrong with most Woody comedies from 71-88. And I would stay away from any post 1992 Woody, they're almost entirely substandard. You reference a line from "Stardust Memories" in your comment, that's definitely a great one.

Toc

Four Rooms (1995) The Full Monty (1997) The Birdcage (1996) 😄

Domino

I'd love to see these on future comedy polls: Team America (from Matt Stone and Trey Parker) Dumb and Dumber (Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels) 40 Year Old Virgin (Steve Carell) Old School (Will Farrell, Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn)

Dan

Uncle Buck!!!

Walter White

Im nocturnal

Walter White

Would love to see Get Shorty. John Travolta probably only got the role because of his performance in Pulp Fiction, and he gives a standout performance, along with Danny DeVito, Gene Hackman, Rene Russo, Dennis Farina, and too many others to mention.

David Martin

I live in Vegas. Early or late doesn't exist, it's just a 24 hour blur

Mr. Chumpus

Back To School should be on this list....

Mr. Chumpus

So many good ones. I'll go with As Good As It Gets.

David Martin

Sideways - kind of on the border between comedy and drama but definitely comic elements. Maybe a separate Woody Allen poll? His "early funny ones" I would recommend: Bananas Sleeper Love and Death Annie Hall - A more serious "relationship" comedy but maybe his best movie (it won him the oscar) Of his later movies I recommend: Midnight in Paris

Samolina Pilchard

Crocodile Dundee is an absolute classic.

Aaron Barlow

In Montana so just got off work not too long ago!

Forrest

Love it. II is great as well.

James Willingham III

It's early in the day mate, if you're Crocodile Dundee lol

Jonathan Patrick

John Candy’s a legend

James Willingham III

Clerks, Sam would love the dialogue.

James Whalen

Parenthood!

F.O.T. Snax (Michelle)

Dazed & Confused is my favorite movie!

David Crabtree

Haha tell me about it!

James Willingham III

Dang you guys are up late! Or early? -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Clerks all day

Rasmus Kristensen

Crocodile Dundee. 🐊 They just don't make movies like that anymore ❤️

Jonathan Patrick

Clerks is a must watch.
