Cabin in the Woods (2011) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Cabin in the Woods (2011) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Whenever I come across mermaid discovered in real life fake videos, the mermaid is always an ugly zombie like creature. Maybe there's a tendency to conflate mermaids and Sirens. Sirens are evil mermaids with sharp teeth that lure sailors to their death, not surprising they might be perceived as hideous creatures in true form. https://aquamermaid.com/blogs/news/siren-mythical-creature#:~:text=%27Mermaid%27%20and%20%27siren%27,Sirens%20are%20like%20evil%20mermaids.

I have seen a movie that's very similar to this. At first I thought this was the one because of Amy Acker playing the scientist girl. But in the movie I saw the scientist actually meets with the victims in the woods. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. Most of what Joss Whedon has done is very good. Firefly is really awesome and Serenity (the movie). The whole old ones/ancients thing is a thing from Buffy but I think that's just because Whedon wrote both this and Buffy. The really cool thing about Joss Whedon is how he always reuses actors like. You will see all the same actors in everything Joss Whedon has done. I actually swore I saw Nathan Fillion in here somewhere, though I could be wrong. It was just for a split second I thought he was one of the scientists during the beginning.

Alex

This has happened to me once on YouTube.

Alex

It's so weird to me seeing mer men as being these disgusting creatures because to me Mermen were always like dudes like Ariel's father in The Little Mermaid. But I think there was actually a horror movie about a mer man that was disgusting and a killer.. but they made horror movies about all sorts of mythical creatures that aren't normally horror movie type characters (like The Leprechaun).

Alex

They seem to have different types of Zombies as on the white board he mentioned that zombies were different from that specific family of zombies, but in one scene you see a bunch of zombies eating the brains of the remains of ppl killed by the other monsters. This is a reference to George Romero's zombie movies. I'm unaware of any other zombie movies where the zombies eat brains.

Alex

Yeah, I agree. I'm not sure which it would be...

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

The look on his face when he realised he was going to get killed by the Merman whom he was so hyped to see was hilarious.

Aaron Barlow

At some point , "Cabin In the Woods" had a tie-in deal with the videogame "Left 4 Dead", so in those prison cubes, you'll see some of the boss zombie characters from the game. And perhaps the zombies in the hallways were also referencing the game, but they could also just be generic zombies from any film?

Guston Zimasheen

Yeah I imagine the Merman is super fast in the water, but it would have been interesting to see how it played out if they had chosen that death option.

Guston Zimasheen

Kudos to Mr. Schmitt on holding it together in front of the Mrs...you looked like you wanted to say SO much to her the whole movie Lol This is one of my perfect movies 😊

Conjuring 2 then! Have you guys seen that? It's better than 1 IMO. Also Annabelle. Paranormal activity is good as well.

10/09/22 - 4:07PM PST - The link has been updated to a new upload of the Full Length that the HD Version is available, sorry about that, all!

TBR Schmitt

Oh no! Okay Daniel said YT is still processing the HD version which is unheard of since we uploaded it like 3 days ago, so he’s going to upload it again and I may have to create another post. Sorry all! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

We have seen The Conjuring! That would be a terrifying reaction for sure! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I’m sorry, I’m not tech-y. What does this mean? Is the video quality only available up to 360p? Showing this to Daniel to check. -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Such a fun film! Yes, we’ll definitely need to check out more of these films that we haven’t seen for some more references haha We loved Marty! Too funny! We completely missed the professor relationship but I swore she said she wasn’t a virgin anyways but it had me second guessing lol -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha thank you, Jason! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I need to re-watch just to see if I can put this stuff together haha The Purge doesn’t scream film projector to me though 🤔 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Damn we wouldn’t have known a lot of these so I’m glad they went with Evil Dead 😂 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Probably true 😂 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

LOL

TBR Schmitt

Chris Hemsworth’s delivery was awesome haha You know, I thought about that when I put it on the schedule in the same week, but decided to just go through with it. The rest of the month are all new to us both 😊 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

LOL prepping for my reaction 😂 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Thank you! Oh dang we missed that! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Exactly. You're not paranoid if it's true.

Guston Zimasheen

You should watch The Conjuring for spooky season!

Odd Thomas

The quality / size for this is only 360p?

Andrew Roach

Ok, that makes sense. I'm so glad that 3D fad went away.

Jeffrey Miller

That was a lot of fun! Short and sweet as well. There were a lot of nice references to other works of horror. All the stuff about ancient gods were a big theme in HP Lovecraft's stories. The stuff with the sphere puzzle was a reference to the Hellraiser movies which I'm sure you guys will cover soon. I was so happy when Marty came back. It's funny that even though Marty was a stoner he was the most rational of the bunch because he had smoked so much weed the chemicals didn't have an effect on him. When Sigourney Weaver's character says, "We work with what we have" she's acknowledging that finding a college aged woman who hasn't had sex would be a little difficult. Dana, who had an affair with her professor, is just portrayed as less experienced and more inhibited sexually.

Jeffrey Miller

What happen was MGM went bankrupt and all their movies just went on the shelf until they could be sold off to other studios. When Lionsgate bought it, the film went through a 3D conversion process due to the success of AVATAR and ALICE IN WONDERLAND and that delayed it an additional year. They did hope to capitalize on the success of THOR but The Cabin in the Woods actually released almost a year after THOR came out because the 3D conversion process took that long to do. But by the time it came out, the trend had faded and they may have cancelled the conversion, I can't remember. But it was definitely a clusterfuck. Hemsworth's RED DAWN remake also was part of that MGM deal.

Jason Dolan

A perfect reaction

Jason Dolan

Huh. I had never noticed Marty checking out the old school film projector when everyone's in the basement. I wonder which of the monsters that would have summoned... nothing jumps out to me. edit: The Purge people in masks, maybe? I dunno.

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

First time I've seen this. It was pretty good. I Liked the horror movie/fiction references. As you mentioned, Evil Dead was one, as was Hellraiser. The orb puzzle was probably a reference to the Lament Configuration (a puzzle in Hellraiser). I think the "Merman" was a reference to the Creature from the Black Lagoon (movie from the 1950s). Obviously also the "Ring" movies from Japan. I think the clown was meant to be a reference to Pennywise from It . The biggest reference though, I think was to the works of H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos- which revolves around the Elder Gods and sacrifices to them. You should check out some other H.P. Lovecraft based movies, such as "The Color out of Space" (the recent one with Nick Cage) and "Re-Animator" from the '80s.

Samolina Pilchard

"You could run away from the Merman easily" I suspect the merman would've appeared in the lake lol.

Aaron Barlow

These kind of movies teach us that the conspiracy theorist is always right.

Aaron Barlow

Chris Hemsworth's perfect clothesline of the little girl redneck-torture-zombie-family, followed by "Dead bitch." has got to be one of the best horror movie moments there is. It's so preposterous. This movie is too much fun. Fwiw, I kinda hope that we can get back to more movies that neither of you have seen. Imo, two re-watches in a row is a bit much (but ik it's cuz democracy.)

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

The werewolf was awesome, if only American werewolf in Paris used this kind of FX, it would've been a great movie. Good to see the werewolf play a prominent role in the monster pantheon here. Surprised to see no vampires, maybe the bat like creature was a vampire in true form.

Aaron Barlow

TBR has smug grin and adjusts his glasses = He knows something Sam doesn't.

Aaron Barlow

I like that one of the monsters on the whiteboard is just "Kevin". If you want to see another classic horror movie that is an obvious big reference in this movie, check out "Hellraiser" (1987). And, speaking of that movie, a remake was just released today on Hulu. Gonna go make some popcorn.

Thomas Yanez

Great reaction, y'all. Regarding Dana being a virgin or not - at the beginning, they explicitly tell us that she had been having sex with her professor, who dumped her in an e-mail.

Thomas Yanez

Oh no way!! It's incredible but I could definitely see them wanting to utilize that star power haha -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Oh awesome! I can't wait to hear what you think! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yay, hope you enjoy! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

fun fact this movie was shelved for years until Hemsworth got cast as Thor. Then they released it the same year hoping his fame or popularity would transfer to ticket sales for their movie. Odd how they thought this would bomb as this was one of the most original ideas in years.

Ghost Crusaders

I haven't seen this one, so this ought to be fun. It'll be nice when I start working days again so I don't have to wait all night to watch these lol

Jeffrey Miller

Yaasss, been waiting for this one🤘
