Your reaction to that was so much fun to watch! Apparently I originally saw this episode air 23 years ago... damn... I still remember that experience. Paulie: "Take more than the Jamaican bobsled team with cap guns to stop your old man." The writing in this show... I can't even. Dan: "When in reality, his mom is... the embodiment of, like, Satan." These reactions are so great I can hardly stand it :)

And he named her Livia, not coincidentally, after Livia Drusilla, the notorious ancient Roman matriarch and one of the great murderesses and schemers in world history. Just one of the great little details regarding one of the greatest villains in TV history.

It was fucked up sure, but Tony making moves and calling the shots behind his back would be the equivalent of a General secretly changing orders the President gave. Jr. is still the boss and his word is the final say-so, so Tony was in the wrong -- this is like their version of the General being court marshaled. Always remember the Mafia has strict rules and runs as a paramilitary organization
