Battle Royale (2000) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Was kind of surprised to find this one in the archives. Definitely an acquired taste. One I happen to have a fondness for. Not sure why it showed up so early as a patron pick for foreign films. But an entertaining watch nonetheless.

oh Das Experiment is great. forgot about that, saw it when it came out.

Birdie Num Num

If this is coming off a DVD, ake sure you're watching the same framerate, too. 23.97 FPS for NTSC (American) vs 25 for PAL (European)

Great Reaction !!! I have some recommendations from German Movies for your Foreign Poll .... "Knockin On Heavens Door" from 1997 with Til Schweiger and Moritz Bleibtreu, "Das Experiment" from 2001 with Moritz Bleibtreu , "Das Finstere Tal" from 2014 with Tobias Moretti, "Sieben Monde" from 1998 with Christoph Waltz and "Barfuss" from 2005 with Til Schweiger

I consider this the true Hunger Games but I think the two who commented already covered that this has so much more meaning than kids demolishing themselves.

Anakin Starkiller

The director of this movie had a deep resentment to adults, because he was a kid during the war, and Japan hid so much that was going on, so when they lost there was a great deal of shame. Basically this story was supposed to be about how adults are the real problem, not the children. The kids had moral compasses that were more intact, compared to the adults, who were more bloodthirsty. Which was inspired by the Japanese government and the propaganda they pushed, so this is supposed to be a film about how peace, not bloodshed was the better calling in life. I’m summarizing this, and the film and it’s backstory is really complex, but that is basically the jist

That was my first time watching this movie. I give it a solid B-. Pretty entertaining for the most part, but damn the poor marksmanship of the characters was borderline distracting. Also the ending was pretty wtf. I read the manga years ago and it was pretty disturbing at the time. I don't remember how they got off the island though.

Jeffrey Miller

Didn't understand a word.

Unfortunately, I have the special edition - or at least a cut that calls itself the special edition and starts out exactly the same - but my edit is nothing like theirs. Same running time though. Guess I need to find Vudu and see what's up.

Foreign film? "RRR" (yes, that is the title)

Thomas Yanez

The one that started it all

Thank you, came here to ask that very thing.

For those wondering, it's the Special Edition.
