Drama Movie Poll!

Help pick the Drama film we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

NOTE: I have seen American Beauty, A Beautiful Mind, and Requiem for a Dream, so this would only be Sam's first time watching!

Comments

Only three videos per month that we post on the channel come from polls, the rest are from recommendations and movies that Daniel and I are interestested in watching. We do not rely exclusively on the polls for reaction choices. -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I vote, if they watch Stand By Me. The should also react to Family Guys "Three Kings" episode. It spoofs Stand by Me, Misery, and Shawshank Redemption. Just an idea.

Moe howard

Just some passing thoughts. I hope that as time passes, you won’t rely exclusively on polls for reaction choices. Mass popularity often leads to the less impactful and spectacular. Some movies that should NOT be missed, will never win a poll. I understand your quandary as reactors with an audience, and I can’t say what method of selection you should apply. My only hope is that you will apply some eclectic “voodoo” in coming up with some of your selections as the months pass. But meanwhile, I do understand and respect your use of polls.

David Wilkins

omg American beauty my #1 favorite movie of all time!

miles

It's pretty clear at this point that Dog Day Afternoon won't get the win here, but I'm heartened by its showing and think the next time there's a Pacino-specific poll it might do very well. Hope so anyway!

Paul Cox

Magnolia! One of the best 90's films, period

Odd Thomas

Sorry guys but I’m never watching The Elephant Man again. That movie scarred me as a kid 😭

Rick Trujillo

A great one. And one of David Lynch's most straightforward stories. (along with The Straight Story!)

Neal Romanek

I would add Do The Right Thing to your drama mix.

Neal Romanek

Patreon will not let me post an emoji of me throwing a sobbing, despair-filled tantrum about this, so you'll just have to imagine it.

Michael Buhl

Not this month! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

More of a military themed drama but how about Men of Honor

Jay

Adaptation by Spike Jonze

Will Zamora

'Boogie Nights' is great because it's the most basic story of the rise, fall and redemption of the protagonist, but it executed to near perfection. The setting of the porn industry transitioning from the 70s to the 80s is interesting. Great performances, great dialogue, pacing, all that good stuff.

Jeffrey Miller

Requiem For A Dream should be mandatory viewing for every high school senior.

Nick of Time

One of those polls where I'm happy either way, Stand By Me is a worthy classic, and Boogie Nights is a Paul Thomas Anderson film, and I don't believe I've ever seen a not amazing movie from him, dude knows how to tell a story. That said there are a lot of great choices on this poll, pretty much all of them actually.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Yes, The Elephant Man is a classic. The black and white cinematography is so beautiful. This movie makes me cry every time I see it.

Robert Boyd

PRISONERS! Just one of the best thriller/ crime/mystery films of the decade...and relatively unknown

ron clint

Stand By Me. One of the greatest movies/stories of our time.

Rudy Hernandez

No comedy movie poll???

Michael Buhl

If you guys ever end up watching Requiem For A Dream, be sure to schedule a comedy to watch after that because you will need it.

Tim Raths

Sleepers in last place wow that's crazy 🤷 looks like I will be skipping this one with the two front runners oh well 🤷 sure the reaction will be good however regardless so YouTube edit it will be 👍

Ian

Dog Day Afternoon is a film that I have a real soft spot for, because the exteriors were shot down the block from where I live. It’s also tremendously acted, and a truly engaging story. Boogie Nights is probably the most consistently entertaining of all of these films. I think because of the subject matter people write it off as schlock or borderline parody. It’s not. It’s a wonderful drama featuring one of the greatest ensemble casts. It’s the one I hope they do. To Live and Die in LA is a stylish masterpiece, and the dark horse of this poll. I’d like to see it, but it may be the one that gets them the fewest views in return. Also, still waiting for De Palma’s ‘Blow Out.’ Any day now. 😉

Jarrod Hornbeck

I am so happy that Stand by Me is winning :) One of my all time favourites! *gives high five to everyone who voted for it*

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

These are all good but I pick boogie nights

Kessa

This is also a Great Poll !!! For the next Drama Poll i suggest "Rain Man" from 1988 With Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise !! Great Film !! Another Suggestions are " Wall Street" from 1987 from Oliver Stone with Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen and "Papillon" from 1973 with Dustin Hoffman and Steve MqQueen

Florian Meier

There are many great films on the poll, obviously, but I just want to give a little love for To Live and Die in LA . I can't imagine it would get many views, but it is so good and so original. AndI think the Schmitts might really love it.

VivendoBem

Boogie Nights, The Elephant Man AND Dog Day Afternoon on the same poll! Nice!!! Three of my all-time faves!!!!!! Psyched to see "Boogie Nights" coming in second! Obviously "Stand By Me" is going to win, it's standard reactor fare.....but I'm psyched to see those three movies on the poll and, in Boogie Nights case, doing so well. All three of those are going to make great reaction videos when they get around to them.

Toc

Wrong. "Dog Day Afternoon" came in second on the last Al Pacino poll. I'm sure it will be done soon.

Toc

Girls were pretty safe though ;)

Aaron Barlow

Boogie nights? Really?

Aaron Barlow

Oh boy, The Elephant Man is such a classic and one of the most powerful movies I had a privilege to watch on the silver screen. I know it won't win this time, which makes me a bit sad, but it's on the list and it will eventually come around so there's that warming feeling of hope. It's one of those movies that keeps you thinking long after the watch. Same applies to A Requiem for a Dream. It stays with you for a long time with it's powerful message and ability to provoke a visceral reaction to the finale. We have some really good reactions ahead 💯

David Lengyel

yeah with the number of allegations of his encounters with underage boys it just makes the subject of the film feel too close to his reality

Ken Veader

Kevin Spacey seduces a teenager, which in the 23 years since its release, makes it a very uncomfortable watch.

Paul Cox

Sadly, I'm pretty sure 'Stand By Me' will win. It never clicked with me and I don't get its appeal. However, please please watch 'Boogie Nights' sometime. I have a feeling you two would love it. Donnie Brasco is a good mafia movie. While I think 'Requiem for a Dream' is a great film, I recommend it with the warning that it is DARK and will definitely be a candidate for most depressing film you've reacted to. I have a very high tolerance to depressing stuff which is good to because I work in mental health and sometimes I hear some pretty awful things. With that being said, I find it an emotionally exhausting film, but it is really good.

Jeffrey Miller

Gross? I don't really understand.. I'm wanting to watch it though.

Logan Kerlee

American Beauty is a gross film but every other film on this list is pretty great

Ken Veader

it really is Mark Wahlbergs best film

Ken Veader

I can't not vote for anything other than only To Live and Die in L.A. here.

Jay Davis

And starring his wife Anne Bancroft.

Robert Boyd

I’m glad Stand By Me is winning. It’s a great film and based on a Stephen King novella. Actually, it was one of the four stories in Different Seasons, which also included Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil, and The Breathing Method. The title of the story is The Body. All four are excellent. I know you both loved Shawshank so you’ll both love this. I read Shawshank before the movie ever came out so it kind of spoiled it for me, but still a great movie.

Robert Boyd

I voted Sleepers bc it's great with an outstanding cast similar to Cop Land. Underrated, based on a True story. I definitely think "Legends of the Fall" and "Meet Joe Black" are extremely worthy for this channel.

Jonathan Patrick

For sure. It relies heavily on the intensity of the performances, especially from Pacino and Cazale. No music to sway your emotions, just the acting and story.

Brandon B.

Yeah, the entire cast is amazing...including Cazale. Can't believe he and Pacino were in so many classic movies in such a short time span.

Brandon B.

No Country For Old Men gets credit for being an intense film that's enhanced by not having a musical score, but Dog Day been there done that 30 years before.

Paul Cox

I voted for "Dog Day Afternoon," because it's Pacino's best role when he was a young man, but there are plenty of great movies in the list. "The Elephant Man" was terrific, and I voted for that one too, but it's NOT a typically "weird" David Lynch movie: he plays it straight as a historical drama. Lynch is very versatile . . . If you go with "Boogie Nights," you'll have to do a lot of pixillating: it's a fun movie, but it's a "hard R."

William 1611

I know Dog Day Afternoon isn't likely to win a popularity poll, but it's one of (if not the) best Pacino performance of his career. It's a brilliant movie with brilliant performances. Even if it's not for the channel, I hope you both watch it at some point. Definitely worth it.

Brandon B.

Someone made the "Cazale 5" selling point upthread, but I doubt that will be enough to sway many people. It's really an astonishing film, though.

Paul Cox

Yes, Dog Day. I'm hoping, but not very hopeful it'll win.

Brandon B.

Yeah...I'd love to see them react to Dog Day Afternoon. Unfortunately, it's not a film that's likely to win a popularity contest. Dog Day isn't really a feel good, easy watch.

Brandon B.

I finally became a patron specifically to vote for Dog Day Afternoon next time it was polled, so my day has come... as long as the rest of the voters don't ruin it lol

Paul Cox

Stand By Me is a classic. I hope it wins!

EdmanXERO

I would kill for a reaction to "Dog Day Afternoon" or "To Live and Die in L.A.", which doesn't look like will happen. 😫

Mr. Writhms

Sleepers is a perfect movie

ShadowVessel π

The Elephant Man would make for a great reaction video. Not too many channels dive into David Lynch’s films. It has a great performance by John Hurt and features a young Anthony Hopkins. Another interesting fact about The Elephant Man was that it prompted the Academy to award films for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Tim Raths

Thunder Heart

Tee Grant

C’Mon everybody…..Prisoners is a genuine classic. Let’s make it happen!

Garry L

I know it won't win the poll, but "The Elephant Man" is by FAR the most powerful film in this list and will emotionally destroy you. You should eventually get to it as well as other Lynch films who is by far, the most transgressive American filmmaker around.

Jimmie V

Hi! I'm a new fan and it's my first time voting. I wish you'll have a fantasy movies list containing The Neverending Story eventually. Keep on trucking, I like watching you discovering movies I enjoy!

Olivier Fortier

Boogie Knights is the best. There's magic on those tapes, man.

Tostito Buddy

True. I guess I tend to choose mainly one I want to see the most, in hopes that it wins the poll, but I would generally choose almost all of these movies

Lee Brennan

“Wonder Boys” is a great movie- for your next drama or comedy poll. Michael Douglas, Tobey Maguire, Katie Holmes, Robert Downey Jr, Frances McDormand, and can’t forget Rip Torn.

Matt DSM

You can choose more than one, no?

mikethemotormouth

You're three-fifths of the way to completing the John Cazale 5, and could get a fourth here with Dog Day Afternoon. You've seen him in Godfather, Godfather II, and The Deer Hunter. The other one is The Conversation. All 5 were nominated for best picture.

Raymond Johnson

Normally I would vote for a few selections, but Stand By Me is a masterpiece,so just one vote was required

Duncan

Boogie Nights!.... just for the challenge of editing it ;)

Will D

This might be the toughest list to choose from so far 😅. All great, but I went with Stand By Me. A beautiful, emotional, yet fun coming of age classic based on a Stephen King book "The Body". Some of the best performences from younger actors I've ever seen in a movie 👌. Dead Poet Society is also fantastic. Robin Williams was a terrific actor, as opposed to just being hilarious

Lee Brennan

"Dead Poets Society" is an underrated gem. Robin Williams, Robert Sean Leonard and Ethan Hawke.

Miles E Coburn

All of the above should be an option here.
