Another very interesting outro discussion--I agree w a lot of points yall made. One point I respectfully disagree on is the father's advice to Carmela. I think what he said to Carmela (that her behavior could change Tony's own over time if she tries hard enough, for long enough) is pretty messed up. Obviously, the Sopranos' marriage is not a healthy, two-way street. The marriage is a transaction that Carmela has buyer's remorse over. By marrying Tony, she got a ticket to what she thought was the American Dream. She's gotten the house, the clothes, the cars, the vacations, etc. etc.--all the material things she's ever wanted, along with the 'high roller / mob wife' status/image, and so on. But the price of the ticket is her home doubles as her gilded cage and her husband doubles as her warden. With that kind of power imbalance, there's no functional marriage to be had, imo. Now, 18 years into this marriage, Carm is finally starting to buckle under the realization that her marriage is like the mob itself--a life sentence--except she's got 0 chance of becoming a boss. She's got no control over what Tony does...and vanishingly little over her own as well. That her behavior could change Tony into being a better man is, to me anyway, a complete fallacy.
Keep up the great discussions after the reacts--I truly love watching your love and appreciation for this amazing show!

Agreed. As Nikki and Steven have pointed out, they consider any setting of expectations to be spoilers.

Agreed. It's called "leading". Just let the reactors discover for their selves. We don't need to let them know what's good or not.

Patreon should have a "spoiler" thread option for show fans to talk openly about spoiler stuff without the risk of the reactors seeing it.
I've got a low threshold for what is a spoiler, though. "wait til you see x," "I can't wait for you to meet," or "the next season is better" all seem spoiler-y to me.

I agree with this. S1 definitely feels the most disjointed from the rest of the seasons. The start of S2 is when the show knows exactly what it is and hits the ground running.

I'm so glad you guys, the best reactor out there, are doing this show and giving it the attention it deserves! It's not only the greatest drama in TV history, it's also one of the greatest television comedies ever made. What a thrill it is watching it again through new eyes. Thank you!

I love every season, but season 1 feels much less like The Sopranos than all the others. It's the outlier. Season 2 onwards, it's a totally different show.
The first season was originally written as a movie, and later got adapted into 13 episodes of TV. I think that may be why it feels so different to the other seasons. Season 1 is kind of erratic. It might be why it's a tough watch for some newcomers.
I love how much of this show is still to come!

Season one sets the stage. Not to say this season is bad, it's far from it. But S2 is where the show takes off. I'd even argue from S1's episode "Isabela" and on, it's found its full footing. And the dream sequences are a staple of the series. It's some of the most interesting stuff that happens in some episodes.

I love the visual story telling at the beginning of the episode when junior is getting his suit fitted. He's initially framed from the waist up and looks proud and dignified, then the camera pans down to reveal that he's not wearing pants. as in, Junior doesn't wear the pants in the family. He's only the boss in name. Tony is the one in charge.

These Sopranos reactions have genuinely been great. I think by the nature of reaction channels, people don't really react to movies or shows that are mostly adult drama. Don't worry, there will be plenty of mafia crime elements to come, but it's been really fantastic and enjoyable listening to your outros and your thoughts and insights about a TV show that came out 23 years ago. And considering the emphasis on mental health these days, maybe the show is surprisingly relevant again now. Is The Sopranos the most watched TV show or movie ever that involves psychiatry?
Something I can say having been in therapy before, you unfortunately start to enjoy is that it's all about you. The therapist doesn't share about their life or their problems or their issues. All of the focus is on you, which never ever happens in life. So it can feel like this intelligent, thoughtful person must really think I'm very interesting and very special. When of course they're just doing their job.

I'm enjoying the chance to re-watch these episodes with you. It's awesome to go through the show's progression and see the introduction of so many awesome characters. For example, it was nice to see that this is the episode that Johnny Sack was introduced. He will be a familiar face going forward. Especially in later seasons.

I'm so jealous you guys are getting to watch this amazing show for the first time. I've rewatched it many many times but to see it again with fresh eyes would be amazing. I'm not sure if anyone in the comments of the other episodes has explained to you guys what a "gumar" is, but it's basically a mistress that's kind of expected and accepted-ish in the mafia. You'll hear the term a lot in this show and it's kind of the reason why Tony having a mistress isn't played as more shocking compared to other shows about family drama.
