Major League (1989) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

I really enjoyed this one! I don't know why I missed out on this reaction. Such a great movie. :)

Logan Kerlee

Cleveland's losing streak at 74 years I think?

Jason Dolan

Today the movie is sadly dated even as great as it is because they're no longer the Cleveland Indians because of the name change but they'll always be the Cleveland Indians to me.

Bull Durham. Kevin Cosner. Even better than Field of Dreams.

softshoes

Great movie, great reaction. It made me finally sign up for your Patreon 🤘 Check out the deleted scene that flips the whole movie. I kinda spoiled it in your YouTube comments. Can't wait for your The Replacements reaction 🏈

Bull Durham and Moneyball are both excellent. Bull Durham is a comedy but not silly like Major League. Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon, and Tim Robbins make it go.

David Martin

If you react to more baseball movies, I highly recommend The Sandlot.

EdmanXERO

The Natural with Robert Redford is also worth watching.

Joel P

Ohhh. "The Fan" I haven't seen that movie in forever. Good choice!

TGrimace

The "rich guy" you recognize is Corbin Bernsen. He's mostly known for this, L.A. Law, and he's the dad in Psych (Amazing tv show worth watching if you haven't seen it). As far as Baseball goes, the only other films I would recommend are Bull Durham (comedy) and Moneyball (drama, fascinating true story).

kbobravo

MONEYBALL is one of the best movies of the last 20 years.

Another Great Baseball Movie is "American Wildcats" from 1986 With Goldie Hawn and Wesley Snipes !!! Another Great Tom Berenger Movies are "Sliver" from 1983 and the Thriller "Someone to Watch Over You" from 1987

Florian Meier

Great Reaction!! I loved to see Wesley Snipes again on the Channel after Demolition Man ;) Another Great Wesley Snipes Movie is "Blade" and "US Marshals" ... Both are already on the List ... Another Great Snipes Movie is "The Art of War" from 2000 and "The Fan" from 1996 ... Another Great Charlie Sheen Movie is the Oliver Stone Film "Wall Street" from 1987 with Michael Douglas

Florian Meier

I kept remembering stuff from the second movie thinking it happened in this one. I actually liked the second sequel. The third movie was terrible tho.

Donna Castellano

TBR -- You gotta learn that YES, THEY ARE SAYING THINGS with those signals, 100%. Every baseball movie you say "They're not saying anything with those signals", lol. They certainly are.

Dominic Matich

This is one of my guilty pleasure movies. When I was growing up in the 70s-80s we would sometimes see exhibition games with the Indians because they did their spring training in Tucson where I grew up. Two other great baseball movies are The Natural and Bull Durham. I have never been a sports fan, but I love sports movies, because they always have a ton of heart.

Vwlss Nvwls

Another sports movie like this would be The Replacements which is just as good imo.

DeAndrew Greene

We already know were are going to get a "kill that kid" or "kill him" from Daniel,in regards to Stilwell

Duncan

The movie was mostly filmed in Milwaukee not Cleveland and that was the old Brewers Stadium

Mark Harrell

I second 'A League of Their Own". It's funny, great ensemble cast, loosely inspired by a true story. Also made back when Tom Hanks actually played characters that weren't as boring as plain oatmeal. Other than that, I'd recommend Moneyball. I know a lot of people think it's boring because it doesn't really focus on the on-field stuff, but I really enjoy Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill in it.

Jeffrey Miller

My favorite baseball movie/favorite movie in general is “A League of Their Own”. Such a great movie, all star cast, highly entertaining. Hope you get to it eventually :)

Fun Fact, in case you didn't know: Bob Uecker, who plays the hilarious play-by-play commentator, has been the real-life baseball play-by-play guy for the Milwaukee Brewers since the 1970s. He was even inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011 for his work as a broadcaster. He played in the Majors when he was younger, but didn't amount to very much as a player. However, his teammates all loved him and he was widely known in baseball for his outrageous humor and antics. After his retirement as a player, he was made famous by his many appearances on the Johnny Carson show, who named him "Mr. Baseball." If you want to see something funny, look up "Letterman Norm MacDonald's Bob Uecker Story" on YouTube. Uecker is an absolute legend. His Hall of Fame speech is also worth watching.

Joel P

The announcer was Bob Uecker. He was a catcher in his younger years but became an announcer. One of the funniest guys ever. His books about the older days of baseball are hilarious

Webwyrm

I love the NY third baseman saying "Shit!" to himself when Taylor bunts. What a great little detail. Personally, I'm not a fan of the sequels. I'd definitely vote for Bull Durham though, if you're looking for another baseball movie :)

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Love it. It feels almost mandatory to suggest Bull Durham and For Love of the Game (the other two in the Kevin Costner baseball trilogy)

Greg

The Major League sequels are horrible. You guys would be much better served exploring other sports movies.

Jason Chirevas

The second one is much better than the third in the series. I just honestly can't stand when something is dumbed down and sanitized to try to grow an audience. And that includes any genre, not just Sports.

Miles E Coburn

The sequel is great.

Reed James

I actually prefer Major League 2, but I love them both.

David Crabtree

Great reactions, guys! I have to admit, baseball is my favorite sport. So, just about any movie with baseball as a basis is going to be a favorite of mine. My favorite line in this movie is Jake and Tom's, "Stay away from her." "Suck my dick". But for me, the funniest line for the movie wasn’t actually in the movie, though. Setup: Jake and Ricky in a bar (after Rick had allowed a monstrous home run).: Jake: “There’s plenty of parks that ball wouldn’t have been out of.” Rick: “Name one.” Jake: “Yellowstone?” It was in the trailer for the movie, but for some reason they didn’t include it in the theatrical version. They kind of shoehorned it into the sequel, “Major League II”. But because of how and who delivers the line it doesn’t resonate with the same impact. Unfortunately, like most franchises, in an attempt to grow the audience the two sequels are not R rated. “Major League II” is PG and “Major League III: Back to the Minors” is rated PG-13. I suppose making it “kid-friendly” is a good thing for some people. I just can’t see how they thought it would be better. Watching the sequels are entirely up to you (obviously). Just letting you know they’re not on the same level as this one.

Miles E Coburn

Major League 2 from 1994!

David Crabtree

Ooh I didn't know there was a sequel! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Looking forward to this very much! I hope you guys do the sequel, I actually like that one more than this one!

David Crabtree

So much more heart than I expected! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Hope you guys enjoy this comedy classic! One of my favorite sports movies👍🏻
